Why the headlights in many modern cars started to go downward from bonnet level? Quite a few cars like Nissan Juke, Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Kamiq etc?

Traditionally the parking lights were below headlights, where as now parking lights are above headlights in many cars!

Is it just a fashion statement or there is some logic behind it? Read more

Just checked with Which and they rate

AA
Then Start
Brittania
With Auto Aid following down the list.

Surprised how Start have quickly established themselves into the runner up company.

But Auto Aid suits me because it covers two vehicles with unrestricted cover for £60 against £87 for Start who score better on call out times . Read more

Seem to have better reviews for arrival time than Auto Aid in the Which review so your experience bears this out Maxime .

Hi, I've just started charging my car battery and looking for some advice. The car is a 2014 Fiesta ST and the charger I'm using us a CTEK MXS 5.0 Fully Automatic Charger. The charger has a reconditioning mode which uses a higher voltage of up to 15.8V, and I'm wondering if this is safe because I haven't disconnected the battery from the car - the instructions for the charger didn't mention that.

So I'd just like to know is it safe to use this kind of charging mode while the battery is still connected to the car, or could this cause problems with the car electrics? Read more

Given how easy it is to disconnect the battery, I wouldn't risk not doing it.

I THINK I've seen posts on here stating that the CTEK is safe on-car....

Hi All,

Im in the process of deciding whether or not to appeal against a speeding fine ( speed camera). Evidently I was doing 36mph, I know I wasnt as I live virtually opposite the camera and I never, ever drive more than 30mph thesedays as Ive been caught 4 times in the last 4 years ...not good, I know but Im from the 1970's era where 30-35mph wasnt considered fast BUT, no excuse and I'd be happy to take my punishment if I wernt disputing the vailidity of this camera. Others in the village have also been clocked at 36mph by this camera. I emailed the local West Yorks Camera Unit who replied saying yes, there had been a problem recently with that particular camera.... Read more

Especially as the OP indicated that the camera may have been faulty, supported by reasonable material.

As I have said before, the Spring lockdown when the traffic was light and the weather good was a golden opportunity to carry out road repairs, but nothing was done. The most we can expect this Summer is the usual temporary fix known as surface dressing, at best damaging our paintwork and at worst breaking our windscreens.

The dangers of drink driving and using mobile phones whilst driving are well known, but the danger of using the touch screen menus which plague modern cars are seldom mentioned. On some cars the driver has to navigate a menu just to alter the heating! I would like to see these unnecessary devices phased out. Read more

How right you are.

I would like to see dashcams fitted as standard to all new cars. The extra cost could at least partly be covered by discontinuing the fitting of touchscreens which are just as dangerous to use whilst driving as mobile phones. Read more

Thanks all. Yes took the camshaft cover off, all seems ok around the cylinder, spark plugs and coil pack changed.

Compression test was done on all cylinders and the air was escaping past the exhaust valve through to the exhaust on cylinder 3, you could actually hear it....

The used car market has gone crazy in the last 12 months. Car prices seem to have doubled. Sadly for me. I bought a Peugeot 407SW estate to use for a year while saving up for another Chrysler Voyager (best car I've ever owned). However, what was worth £1200 for a year ago, is now double of more that amount and I've been priced out of the market. Read more
