Hi I just pass my mot and some of the readings have gone up and some down is this anything to worry about?
Last year This year
HC=121. HC=4
Lambda=0.998. Lambda =1.009
Like I said it has passed the mot with the change especially in the HC is this something I need sorting?
Thanks in advance Read more
Hello everyone, i have got a Mazda 2.2D and i want to change it for another SUV but not sure which one, i would like a Petrol car.
Im interested in the Kia Sportage and Skoda Karoq.... Read more
As it is to be used mainly around town, you could consider a hybrid, plug in if you have off street parking or easy access to a charger. There are not many (SUV/crossover) plug in hybrids for that budget, but you could certainly consider a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer from 2017/2018, and you could also look at the Sportage's slightly smaller sibling, the Niro, which could be had as a plug in or self charging hybrid within budget. Also, on the subject of reliability, assuming you can live with its distinctive looks, the Toyota C-Hr hybrid (self charging).
Re the Karoq, if you are considering one of them, you might as well add the Seat Ateca to your list. It is all but identical to the Karoq in looks (bar lights and grill) and is the same under the skin.
So £52m in revenue but £130m in fines...? Surely this shows that the payment system is not working fairly? Most people would not intentionally avoid paying the charge knowing that they will definitely get fined. Why do we, the motorist, the general public put up with this? Do TFL treat the fines as part of their regular budget? Confilict of interest, maybe...? Something smells bad..

A few years ago I drove into London on three days running on the first day I drove in I rang the number to pay the Congestion Charge but it was an automated system and I could not make payment the same happened on the second day and the Third Day the reason I couldn't make payment because the vehicle I was driving was registered exempt before and TFL never updated their system. A week later I got fines coming through the door. I tried to explain to TfL the situation that I tried to pay. But TFL said you got no rights to appeal as you haven't got any proof. I am on pay-as-you-go phone. So I did appeal to the adjudicator and when I was at the adjudicator I used their phone phone on loudspeaker to my network provider they confirmed on the dates I was driving in London I spent between 3 minutes and 20 minutes each day on the phone phone to this TFL number. And the adjudicator dismissed all 3 cases. No apologies from TFL and a whole day wasted going to the adjudicator. TFL should be made accountable.
To the best of my knowledge, the number plates on my 1997 car are original, showing dealership name and number. Somebody recently reversed into the front number plate. Does anyone on here know of any company out there who will retrofit a number plate that isn't a pre-1980 black one? Many thanks in advance. Alfie. Read more
I'm guessing the plates on the Escort in question will be of a very standard font, probably the same as is still used on the majority of UK plates, so really it is just about getting the dealer details right.
The only dealer details that a plate manufacturer can put on a plate are theirs, to do otherwise would mean they were breaking the law....
Anyone able to suggest what might be causing a persistent SRS AIrbag light on a Honda Jazz 2007 (my daughters car).
The code has been read and is a left front (Passenger side) SRS sensor which I have had changed but it hasn't helped. Testing the old one gives a 1.5 ohm (1.457ohm to be precise) measurement which reading a few forums appears to be correct and suggests the fault isn't the sensor(which should give a dead short when triggered).
I'm guessing this is a wiring fault (open circuit presumably) but can't figure out how it can "just happen" as the wires seem to be wrapped and not obviously damaged from the small amount of loom that I can see. Admittedly not had a good poke about as yet as not had time.
I've found a site that seems to say the wiring has only one connector between the sensor and the SRS control box here:-

Depends what diagnostic tester has been used . Non Honda test kit very often identifies the wrong side . So it could be a fault on the driver side .
I took my Zafira for MOT before Christmas and it failed on a few things. It hasn't really been driven since, only moved about our address a couple of times and tinkered with. I sorted the fail list but didn't take it back for another MOT until last Saturday. Unfortunately it's failed again, this time because when the fog lights and left indicator/hazards are both on, the rear fog light flashes (there's only one on the right). The right indicator doesn't set it off, nor can I find any other interferences.
I've read up and everyone says "bad earth". So I've cleaned connections, looked for corrosion, inspected wires and checked continuity on earths to rear clusters. No issues detected but still the fault persists!... My local mechanic said "sounds like a bad earth, bring it in now and we should be able to sort it". So I did but he quickly decided that it wasn't a bad earth. Checked fuses and replaced one bad 15a, but didn't help. Ran full diagnostics, found various old electrical faults recorded which seemed unrelated so cleared the lot. Retried - still got the same interference. So now he's a bit stumped too.
One electrical fault did return after clearing, but it relates to the front dipped headlights. This is a fault I am aware of from first MOT - the right bulb doesn't light. The rubber seal was missing and the wire and terminals were corroded. I stripped them back and put some new spade connectors on but it still didn't work, so I ended up using left bulb feed to switch a relay to light right bulb as a temporary measure while I work out if this Zafira is worth keeping. Mechanic thinks that since headlights are front UEC and indicator interference is from rear module, that it can't be related. He's suggest it could be steering column module (CIM) but not sure.
Any ideas? Thanks! Read more
The lighting circuits on these are totally over complicated. I would check all fuses both in the under bonnet electric centre and the rear unit (if fitted) . Also check for missing fuses . Easily overlooked. These do suffer corrosion in the large multi connector below the front fuse box . Check for water ingress in the rear unit . Can’t see it being the cim . The big problem with these , is that everything is switched electronically, so difficult to do a by pass repair .
Hi all, I have a wheel and tyre policy that I got when I bought my car. I claimed end of last year for a puncture, all was fine. My question is, do I need to tell my motor policy I claimed for this. I know they'll ask if I've had any claims or losses. Cheers Read more
Do not tell them , your unnecessarily opening a can of worms

Hi, new here and looking for some buying advice. I'm in the market for a petrol estate (could go saloon for the right model if no estate option) with a budget of about £5k. I'm used to a 2 litre turbo diesel so don't want something too weak.
For that kind of money my options seem to be cars from about 2005 to 2010 with about 80-125k miles, things like Audi A4, Volvo V50/70, VW Passat, Ford Mondeo, Subaru Legacy. Also maybe Lexus IS250 if I'm happy with saloon.... Read more
Yes perhaps being a bit harsh on my own car! But the boot on the MK1 Octavia hatch was hugely practical, the boot on the estate even better, but that's not a fair comparison with the civic as you say. I never had a problem with rear passenger space as the kids were small when we had the MK1. The Civic is fine for 4 adults, bootspace is much greater than the Focus we have. Rear visibility is rather an acquired taste, partially compensated by excellent door mirrors. I'd have another, simply for its overall integrity, the estate Civic would be perfect! I'm not struck on the 10th gen styling, although it's undoubtedly a decent car.
Can't see Italians bothering with 3 tanks of Shell V power.
