Hi, A friend has just has a new battery fitted to her Kia Piccanto. The AA man suggested she save money and not to fit a Stop Start Battery. I own a Zafira Tourer 1.6 cdti with Stop-Start. The difference in price between a Stop-Start battery and normal is about £300. I know the stop start works, but never really use the Stop-Start and actively switch it off before it kicks in. I also note that once the car is running optimum after a long run the Start-Stop doesn't kick in anyway! Should I stay clear of a Start-Stop battery if it needs replacing? Read more
Hi All, i have been looking for a used car with a budget of 3.5k for a while now, with nothing much popping up near to me (TN2 post code). Looking for a petrol manual for local school runs mainly.
I have been reading posts here and suggestions. Yarises are rare, Fiestas with the 1.25 engine not many. Mazda2s even rarer. Fabia seems to have mixed reviews - probably depends on what one is comparing them against. Probably a few i10s out there with the most likelyhood of actually getting one.... Read more
Thanks again BBD. Sorry for the confusion, what i meant was in terms of road tax and insurance. Wanted to keep those down. I am checking the swift mainly. Also looking at a swift and an i10 at the moment - ongoing discussions with dealer at around 3.2 and 3.5k. The swift definitely looks more interesting though with higher mileage than the i10 i am looking at.

Hi all.
I bought a very nice 2008 Golf GTI online and picked it up 15/02/21. On my way home I noticed the temperature gauge wasn't getting up to 90 and was moving a lot. Research at home revealed it was likely a failed thermostat and a chat with two local VW specialist garages confirmed my fears.... Read more
I could also say, tongue in cheek, that 'you can always tell a Yorkshireman, but you can't tell him owt'. But that's not the general view of the forum either....I think.

Hey, I am currently conducting a research in fulfilment of my dissertation requirements for my MSc degree. The topic is Consumer's adoption of Electric Vehicles: an adapted application of the Theory of Planned Behaviour. I'd appreciate if you could help participate by filling in the survey as best you could. Literally takes 5 minutes. Heres the link:
Thank you for that explanation. However, if there are still deficiencies in the way the power is delivered, as the torque is linear then the deficiencies will be normalised, rather than a sudden burst of torque with an ICE? Sorry if I'm not being very clear...
The problem with torque steer was the way it suddenly would kick in, almost out of nowhere. I remember driving a Rover 220 Turbo Tomcat in 1992/3 that was quite bad and I didn't buy it.
Hi. I have a problem with my SRS unit. SRS light , rear seat belt warning and Autostart warning all came on at once. No accident, no deployment. As per manual, took car to dealer. They have told me the SRS module itself is toast. Fair enough I thought, these things happen. Cost £1200 fitted. Ouch. I know you can get data cleared for a few quid, but I am not sure that will help with a damaged unit. Is there anywhere that can repair these units. I have spent a day on the net getting nowhere so I hope somebody here knows better. Many thanks.

Hi did you have to replace the SRS unit or were you able to get it repaired? I have all the same issues as you above. Auto stop start, airbag light and rear seatbelt sign on and at a loss. I had a computer diagnostic and it is throwing up code U0151 sayong gauge contol module jas lost communicationwith the SRS unit. I've taken the seats apart checked the wiring etc. If the cost was £1200 3 years ago I'm sure its much higher now. I'd be interested in what you had to do in the end. Before I bite the bullet and ring Honda. I also hit a pothole but I can't be sure the lights all came on at the time or shortly after. Thanks
My air con has broken on this car and I have been advised that the repair is so expensive on cars of this age 2003 that it simply isn’t worth it.
But the cabin temperature last summer was unbearable , but over the winter the heater would not work so I had the thermostat replaced.... Read more
You need to establish if its actually a flap fault (or 2 flaps if it has dual zone climate). removal of the glovebox and under dash trims driver side will allow inspection of the servo motors and operating levers. if the servo motors have failed, then it is possible to move the mechanism by hand .Anything beyond this is dash out. Using a diagnostic tool like Vagcom/vcds should help with fault finding.

Thanks Bromptonaut. As people have replied to the post in Motoring, let's leave that one up and close this.

I had a car stolen which was subsequently recovered and repaired by my insurers. I ran it for a further 2 years with no issues, in truth after the repairs it tracked straighter than it had done in the previous 5 1/2 years.
When I PX'd it I was asked the usual question i.e. had the car been an insurance total loss to which the answer was of course no. They never asked about other accidents and repairs carried out, as long as its not been a Cat whatever it means nothing to them. But in reality they should have known, they carried out the repairs in their workshop....
Something I have noticed - apologies i suspect the majority are already aware - when replying to a thread, no matter how long it is, if you click reply on the very first post, your reply will appear at the bottom of the thread. If we all did this it would be much easier to find a new post on the app rather than it getting lost in the ocean of posts. Just thought it worth mentioning! Also I wish the general non-motoring discussion section would appear on the app, i didn't realise it existed until recentlly. Read more
Good point Metropolis - everyone please take note if not aware. I agree most are.
Sorry I can't help you re the app: I'd no idea it wasn't on there, still less why..
I prefer a car pre stop start etc and fancy an Auris , I thing pre 2014 would be what I'm looking for because also prefer smaller size. Appreciate any views on auto system and points to look out for. Obviously read reviews but like to hear on from backroomers. Read more
Thanks bbd, said wants to learn.. I would find the larger size more difficult to park, not a driving strength !
The earliest implementation of stop-start I can think of was the early 1980s Golf and Polo Formel E.
