Scheduled for September but I understand that it’s not without its potential problems for both petrol and diesel cars, especially the older ones.
what will be the alternative and will this mean changing to super unleaded and V power diesel?... Read more
Noticed the new Octavia vRS is another car introduced with sports seats and built in headrests. Why? Must be awful for rear seat passengers, in addition to those in the front who'd like to be able to adjust a headrest.
<< I already mentioned the advantage that they can't be maladjusted. >>
The downside is that they can't be correctly adjusted either. Dolichocephalic people like me have to sit with head bent forward, a common problem with some train and plane seats. That means trading a continuous nuisance for enhanced safety in an accident which most probably won't happen....
We have about£6k to spend on a 5 door petrol auto, used for shopping, school run, occasionally 150 motorway miles. Somewhere in the Fiesta, Yaris, etc market. Considering Yaris, Rio, Note,
,.... Any thoughts from the collective wisdom? Avoid automated manual systems but is CVT a wise decision?... Read more
Most autos will be ex mobility and many are abused. Look for cars owned by heavy smokers as the interior is never right again and look for poor, cheap paint repairs carried out before returning the car. Salesman talk up motability as being a positive but you’d be horrified at the standard most of them were returned in.
VERY true...at the dealership I worked at we had many a motabaility car in and frankly many were mobile skips.
We had one guy who used to go park his car up at the local park and let his dog go excerise whilst he sat in the car smoking his pipe....I don't think the valeters ever completely removed the stains or the odour..!!...
Hi Folks
Your advice would be appreciated.... Read more
If this helps Swiftcover are the direct arm of AXA Insurance . CISGIL aka Co operative Insurance are motor insurers , and may be the insurers of the third party that was involved .As far as I know there is no other connection between AXA and CISGIL.
As mentioned AXA should advise in writing exactly what this form means in plain English and exactly why they would like you to sign it. Keep pressing for a proper reply...

I run a September 2009 1.8 Auto. I took it with mileage of 29 in Feb 2000, it had been sitting on a dealer forecourt for close on six months, so I got a good price. I've always followed Hon John's advice and changed the oil every 5k or six months and the car has never let me down in 173k.The trim that seals the front screen to the body now protrudes at both front top corners. The screen was replaced maybe fifteen years ago. The glass is fine, my question is, this plastic trim is quite solid, is there an adhesive that can be applied and it fix it back as water is now able to drain in behind the plastic. Yeah that's a line I'm cinsidering but expect it'll be a few bob.
Hi all, another question/problem. A bit of back story first. I inherited a ford fiesta zetec Mk6 2007 which has been stood for a good 14 months if not longer. When I first acquired the car the fuel was on red and the light was on. She did start on the old fuel. I went to get about £5 worth of fuel so I could get the car home. On the way home (roughly 2miles) that £5 I put in did absolutely nothing to the petrol gage. Get her back and started it the next day and noticed the fuel light was off. Took her back and forth from the mot station (8miles) on that £5 without the light coming on. Took her just up the road about 1/2 mile and light came on again. I then took her to a petrol station (8miles away) to fill her up to about half a tank £25 worth. Ran her for about 20 or so miles and then put in another £29 to have her on full. I did 150 until it was roughly on the half a tank where I put in another £19 to fill her back up on full.

I'd be suprised if they were that accurate-the last car I owned(1957)that had a ACCURATE gauge was a 1934 Austin 7 and that only held 5 gallons.
Took delivery of a brand spanking new XC40 Recharge (plug in Hybrid) in January (top of the range trim version with all extras, cost more than £40k, its on a PCP)
A month later, with not even 1000 miles on the clock and the Engine Warning light starts coming on randomly on most trips, with messages about needing to be serviced. Needless say Mrs G (its her daily drive and she is nurse in ITU doing long shifts caring for Covid patients) not pleased, me not pleased. G for grumpy right now.
Booked it in to Volvo dealer, who have had it all day today but who has not been able to repair it in one day. Telling us they don't know the problem yet. and that Volvo want them to check loads of wiring between different modules before replacing anything. They reckon this will take them to end of day Monday. At this moment I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, but I fear the garage visit will be inconclusive and this will turn in to a saga which I am not prepared to go through on completely new car.... I’m told it’s a Geely built engine in China, used in a variety of Geely brand cars including Volvo.
