Like HJ, I have always changed engine oil and filter annually but why don't dealers encourage this?

For a 19 plate 2.lt petrol A3 with only 8k miles (due to lockdown) I shall give it a miss on this occasion, £229 was the price quoted!! and another dealer slightly further away quoted a similar amount. Read more

I managed to find a good kit on this website:
mycar.repair/uk/product-category/oil-change-sets/

Bit of a limited choice of models but they had my 2014 A3 TDI. The oil they shipped was from Germany and seemed to have the right approvals. Might be useful to others.

"It followed research from Halfords, which claimed that one third of UK drivers have been forced to pay between £1000 - £4999 over the past two months to fix pothole-related vehicle damage."
I find this extremely hard to believe!
Can someone please provide a link to verify it.

Seeing Lewis s performance in the Turkish GP last Sunday confirmed his position as the best driver in the wet.

But Ronnie o Sullivan’s comments about Lewis s advantage by consistently having the best car got me thinking. Ronnie compared it to a snooker player been given wider pockets to make things easier.... Read more

I've recently completed the replacement of the rear crankshaft oil seal and gearbox oil seals - thanks for your advice in my previous post.

Although the clutch still seemed servicable, I decided to replace it anyway (including slave cylinder) whilst the gearbox was out.... Read more

Hi

I bought a Mitsibushi Canter Box Van 2013 (7t) in March from a Reputable National Dealer with MOT expiring in Nov 2020. I went to get it MOt'd recently and it failed on ABS light not coming on after ignition. I took it to the garage, they stripped out the dash, and there is no ABS light - i.e there has never been one. There is an ABS system on the vehicle but there is no facility for an ABS light, so that means it can never be roadworthy unless a new dash is put in. It must have been missed on all previous MOT's but picked up on this one as since there has never been a light or a facility for one. Do I have any recourse to the dealership. Has the dealership sold me a vehicle that is faulty or unroadworthy?... Read more

Contact the Mitsubishi dealer for help. If it has ABS then it will have an ABS warning system, it may be part of the main display rather than an individual warning lamp. Some of our buses only display ABS warnings on the main display, there’s no separate warning lamp which can be visually verified.

My new parked car (BMW) that I have had since May 2020 was hit by a scaffold truck last Monday resulting in a damaged wing mirror (broken glass and cracked housing).
Using the anonymous note left on my windscreen with the number plate, CCTV footage from my house camera showing the truck going past my house and whilst not seeing but hearing the sound of impact and the power of social media, I was able to find the culprit at the weekend.
The driver initially tried to deny it was him but after seeing the footage and seeing the photo of his number plate, he admitted he heard the impact but thought it may have been the car behind him at the time.
He then said his reputation was very good in the area and an impact on it would be too big so he would pay and do the needful on getting it repaired. He also said it was best to go out of the insurance companies as he had previously had an impact on his insurance and would cause issues with his livelihood.

I took my car to a local reputable mechanic today and he called BMW direct to find the cost of a replacement mirror - £600 excluding labour!
I informed the driver of the cost and he said 'it was too much'. I said I would get a couple more opinions from other mechanics however how should I approach this situation?
On one side I am keen to just go via insurance however at the same time I don't want to be the cause of someone's livelihood being impacted.
I want to be fair as possible but at the same time not risk any complications getting this resolved. Read more

Getting the parts from eBay and having a backsteet mechanic fit it may invalidate the warranty on that wing mirror for any future issues (such as the electronics not working).

Yesterday evening I was coming up the slight hill on Mile end road from Colchester Station follwing an E scotter in the dark.

Well, he did have 2 flashing LED lights and the rider had a bright yellow backpack, but I was amazed at his speed.. 25mph... I had set my speedo to read the MPH digitally so was quite sure of the speed.... Read more

Seems if we are to believe the press that petrol and diesel cars will not be made or sold new after 2030. Electric cars are very expensive and I understand that the batteries need materials that are in short supply. I suppose by 2030 the electric cars will have longer range and may come down in price how can we generate enough power on the grid to cope with the demand? Read more

Nissan have just released some info about the new Qashqai. There won't be a PHEV but instead a petrol motor will be available to charge the battery. I presume this is basically a range extender, as Mazda are hinting will be added to the MX-30.

We first heard about this in the BMW i3, but they dropped it, I suppose because the range extender version didn't sell well. Its petrol tank was only 9 litres / 2 gallons, so it wasn;t designed for long distances....
