Hi All,

I suspect that this (shorter) lockdown will be handled differently, certainly by new car sales.
We know that showrooms will be closed (in England) from Thursday, but workshops will remain open.
Where the difference will be is that I expect it to be a suspension of all sales activities this time, with no click and collect option.
Online enquiries and phone calls will be answered, and everything diarised for December 2 and onwards. So far as I’ve seen so far, car production will continue as normal.
The used car industry will trade as best it can, with cars being sold from home as opposed to from a pitch. After all, we’re being advised to work from home where possible. Read more

Hello, I had the power steering pump replaced as it was old and knackered and had a new one put on but it is whining while accelerating. There are no bubbles in the fluid or any sign of leaks or anything. The noise corresponds with rpm and is noticeable around 2.5k onwards.

It's noisier than the old pump but the steering feels better. The steering isn't very light on the car anyway but I would say that the new pump has made it better but its just whining a lot.
I wonder if Ronnie O’Sullivan still thinks F1 is about driving around in circles, one handed, whilst smoking a cigar? Read more
It's common for sporting professionals to claim that their sport demands more concentration / effort than other sports.
So it's always refreshing to hear professionals in awe of another's achievement. Like Andy Murray, after watching Mo Farah win gold in the 10,000m in London 2012. ...
I just checked my recent topic (Drivethedeal) and the replies were there - then they weren't.

Apologies, Trilogy. Normally I'm one to see a joke even if it wasn't intended!

She will be retiring soon and wants to buy a small used car for about £8k. Possibilities include Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris 1.3 or Yaris Hybrid.... Read more
Just to add on residuals: an ex-taxi Prius at about 12 years old and a mega mileage can still fetch £3-4k in the trade. The equivalent petrol Focus would be worth about £800.
My Auris had a problem a while back with suspension creaking on cornering. The dealership lubricated the suspension bushes at the last service a few months back and it has cured that noise for now. But very soon after that it developed a new noise - an intermitted rattle / knocking noise from somewhere underneath (sounds muffled and is a bit hard to pinpoint). No idea whether it's related to the previous issue or not, and it only occurs very briefly (a few seconds) maybe once or twice in a journey, but I'm not happy just ignoring it. I'm assuming it's probably something suspension-related and needs to go up on a ramp and be properly inspected (by someone who knows what they're doing :).
Unfortunately the car's warranty expired just when that last service was done, so... any views on what a reasonable charge would be for investigating this kind of problem, and maybe tightening up X or Y as required? All the dealership can tell me is that their labour charge is £78/hr but of course we've no idea how long it will take to diagnose or fix. I'm currently in two minds over whether to let them work on it or just take it to a local independent... there's a good one not far away, going by recommendations, but to be fair the Toyota dealership has generally been pretty good too, and they don't charge for a loan car. One local place has quoted £72/hr (incl VAT) plus £5 for loan car (which seems perfectly reasonable) but who knows how the actual repair costs might compare, so interested to get views if anyone can offer them. Or could be anti roll bar (if it has one) possible drop link, had a knock on one car took ages to find as the knock only happened on certain pot holes or humps. just a thought?
I have a 2012 Ford Galaxy, it has been regularly serviced and has a touch under 55000 miles on the clock. I have recently been having intermittent problems the engine cuts out and the dashboard electrics go blank. When they do come back on I get a message saying Overvoltage please stop. I stop car and switch it back on a minute later and it works like nothing has ever happened. I took it to SMC fords for a diagnostic check and there are no fault Codes comping back. They suggested replacing the battery which they did however less than 24 hours after they did this I get the same problems again.
Recently the car has had a new clutch, new fuel injectors, new fan control module, and had the coolant system replaced on a Ford recall. I love the car it’s got low mileage but I can’t keep shelling out to keep it running.
Does anyone have any idea ? Read more
Honda motorbikes of a certain era (Bear with me) are known for cooking their electrical systems not due to the alternator but due to the regulator/rectifier. Nowadays I imagine the technology has moved on (We fitted MOSFET units) but I suppose anything can fail.

Hi, I have the same problem, mk3 2009 galaxy, leaking appears to be at the bottom passenger side of the windscreen and soaks the floor on that side also. Did you find a solution? I have resealed the screen but it's still leaking....
