For may years I have driven various types of industrial/agricultural vehicles with hydrostatic transmissions. You push the lever forward to go forward and backwards to go backwards which seems common sense. I have driven a couple of automatic cars many years ago and recently bought the vehicle above. I push the selector forward to go backwards and backwards to go forwards which is crazy to me. I guess it is a carry over from automatics that had mechanical linkages but are they not different now? It would make it easier for new drivers to have it the other way round surely?
I like to look after my cars and use the premium fuels. Whether they are worth it I am not sure. Anyway, when I used the premium diesels I understand they contain additives and when I lift the fuel cap it states no additives. A contradiction? Read more

Must agree on both points. Thank you.

Lease companies often ask for an annual mileage and base their monthly fees on that charge.

Exceed the mileage and pay an excess fee - e.g. 10ppm. ... Read more

That is the luck of the draw. The mileage you select is the maximum but there is no minimum. The lease company work out their payments based on the selected mileage and condition of the returned vehicle. Most go straight to auction and get decent prices, or they used to. I doubt you will obtain a refund or rebate from any unused mileage but you can only ask. If you don't ask you don't get!! Good luck.

Really stuck with feeling uncomfortable with car seats at the moment and struggling to work out whether I'm just getting old or whether they are changing the design/ergonomics. I am 5 foot 2, and need the seat fairly forward and the back fairly upright to reach!

Last Christmas, I bought a 2018 Civic. Felt odd on the test drive but assumed that it was getting used to it/seat adjustment. By the time I got it home, 3 hours later, my back was aching badly (and within a month even when not in the car). In the end, gave in, sold it for a SEAT Arona, fine on the test drive, back aches after 15 mins or so. Currently in a Fabia courtesy car - same problem. Recently drove a Mokka which, with the seat base flat & lumbar support was fine.... Read more

Other half had an Arona for nearly 3 years. Excellent car it was. However,
I too had back ache after 15 mins. Even in FR model seats too soft and little support.
She replaced it with a Puma which seat comfort it excellent.

I struggle with seat comfort regardless of amount of adjustment.

I find driving an auto improves things as you have to disregard ease of clutch operation.
I much prefer firm seats.

Car is seat leon 63 reg mileage 77k.

So the garage whom i purchased the car from their warranty had expired and i decided to purchase seat extended warranty on 5th October and it had a start date of 5th November as like all warranties there is a 30 day period. During that period i had covered over 700 miles.

3 days after warranty started i had a dsg gearbox error on the dash saying reverse gear not available and this happened three times and went into a limp mode.

It is a 7 speed DSG dry clutch with no oil change intervals.

I decided to have the car recovered into my local Seat dealership as i had their all component extended warranty. They stripped the mechatronic unit and found some things in there and suggested a entire gearbox replacement via the warranty. The warranty team is disputing stating the fault occurred so soon of the warranty being started so they think the fault pre existed. The dealer also found a sporadic fault stored in the system from the gear selector around 20 october. But the dealership is trying to convince the warranty team that this has nothing to with the mechatronics.

I know these dry clutch dsg boxes are known to be faulty and i mean whether the problem occurs an hour after warranty starts surely as nothing to do with how long i have had the warranty as the warranty cover sudden and unexpected breakdown.

Any advice would be great please. Read more

Does it really need a complete new gearbox? I suspect they’re telling you this because they don’t have the facility or expertise to repair it . There are plenty of VW specialists out there that repair these. Perhaps the warranty would consider this option?

Even if you can find a public rapid charging point when you need one, there may be other cars waiting in front of you, so recharging may still take well over 30 minutes.
In over 50 years driving, one lesson I have learned is that it never pays to be among the first to embrace new technology. There is a long way to go before EV's become affordable and practical. Read more

The UK does not have sufficient spare capacity in the National Grid to support a rapid shift to all electric vehicles and a large number of fast chargers in a given area will require significant local power infrastructure improvements to meet increasing demand. Simply if we all went electric tomorrow there is not enough generating resource to supply everyone so you first need to generate before you distribute. As electric vehicles become more popular and the demands on the grid increase beyond current capacity the taxation will be used to control this demand and generate revenue. Basic supply and demand economics.

Look at the way government has influenced and forced our fuel usage in the past, firstly get the consumer hooked by subsidy, environmental benefits etc. Then when a critical mass has been reached use tax to bring in revenue. I believe fast chargers will be targeted with higher tax in future as they are less efficient (fast but losses due to charging are higher) than slower conditioning chargers. History teaches us many lessons, governments never let up a taxation opportunity when they have invested money in something.

The adventures of a luxemburg family with a e-niro in France on a driving holiday

The Jolivet family

from Luxembourg recently started driving an electric car: the Korean electric SUV Kia E-Niro. The four of them set off on their first e-car vacation at the beginning of August. In France, however, they experienced their blue miracle. For EFAHRER.com, father of the family Alexander Jolivet summarized his electric Tour de France.
