Seems if we are to believe the press that petrol and diesel cars will not be made or sold new after 2030. Electric cars are very expensive and I understand that the batteries need materials that are in short supply. I suppose by 2030 the electric cars will have longer range and may come down in price how can we generate enough power on the grid to cope with the demand? Read more

> Look at EV; but which and do any stand up to the Luxury that I am used to and would like to keep. Is EV even there now
I'm going to stick my neck out here and say, going by the above statement, something other than an accepted 'premium' brand just ain't gonna cut it (such as a Kia or Hundai), regardless of how much standard equipment it has!. ...
Not unexpected, but BMW are sounding the end of days for the 'traditional' new car dealer. Honda are moving in this direction too.

That process, particularly the last paragraph, will change completely in years to come.
Also, you say 'spend the kind of money'.... that's now the exception in a PCP/HP landscape....
Personally I am not convinced by the environmental credentials of EVs, in particular the mining and processing of the raw materials to manufacture the batteries. I believe EVs will be the next diesel fiasco. (Initially promoted by government for lower co2 emissions than petrol, to then be demonised 10 years later for higher nox & particulates.) I agree that we need to reduce our dependence on oil, therefore suggest a green hydrogen economy is the way forwards, replacing the IC engine with a fuel cell. Read more
The problem with electric cars is the are too expensive and too boring !
How can a electric motor be exciting, I car with an V8 or V12 sounds great and even Porsche with there Taycan have an engine noisy to try and make it sound good.
Volvo have said that the Polestar 2 takes to 50000 miles before it becomes better for the environment so if someone brought a new small petrol car and drove it for 3000-4000 miles a year that will also be better for the environment. And before all the Tesla lovers say they are exciting lets just compare a car to a train who gets all excited about a electric train but what happens when the Flying Scotsman turns up as it did on the Swanage Railway a few years ago totally jammed traffic so people could take a look at it.
I've got some questions that can best be answered by someone with one...any forum members have one ? (Must be the PHEV version). Cheers Read more
I have an X5 45e PHEV and wonder if anyone knows if there’s a forum or BMW club forum that concentrates in their EV and PHEV cars ??? Thanks. JW.
SpeakEV has the most active BMW EV forums: www.speakev.com/categories/bmw-ev-forum.112/
You could also try www.bimmerpost.com/ but there aren't many PHEV owners there.

I don't like EVs, hybrids & not even that keen on automatics
What newish ICE car should I buy now? I was thinking that to avoid sinking like a stone in value it would have to appeal to petrol/diesel heads and/or be an aspiring future classic. Sadly can't be a sportscar with a hard ride or have silly low profile tyres. Bigger engine preferred. I would like to celebrate the end of car transport as we know it....Any thoughts guys? Read more
Yes ofcourse 2030...not 2020
Hi all, I'd be really grateful for advice here
Our 2016 Citroen Picasso Grande (just out of warrantee, obvs) had a problem on Saturday - we were in a car park, I started the engine to go home (it's a manual) and it cut out as if i'd stalled (though I hadn't) then wouldn't start, though it was turning over. I called the RAC who first thought it was a fuel problem, then the on-board computer, couldn't fix it so we had to get a tow truck. Finally, when the car was delivered onto our street on Saturday night, it started as normal and didnt' cut out, and it's done the same this morning (though I've not tried driving it anywhwere). ... Thank you all so much, I'm so glad I posted here! I drove the car to the local garage without problem. As we have been saying, he seemed doubtful that he could diagnose it as it was driving fine, but he'll take a look. I will pass on the message about the low-rent earth cable and make sure they check it!
Inevitably, it's now being discussed.

From that article:
"A report from accounting giant Ernst & Young released in September found that replacing a petrol or diesel car with an EV delivers a $1,370 benefit to government revenues and an $8,763 net benefit to the economy over a ten-year life span."...
Nissan have just released some info about the new Qashqai. There won't be a PHEV but instead a petrol motor will be available to charge the battery. I presume this is basically a range extender, as Mazda are hinting will be added to the MX-30.
We first heard about this in the BMW i3, but they dropped it, I suppose because the range extender version didn't sell well. Its petrol tank was only 9 litres / 2 gallons, so it wasn;t designed for long distances....
