The "spam" thread I started had two more posts at the end before it was locked, the last one being from me. If you were quick enough to read this post before avant deletes it (and probably bans me) you can see them xxxx
The rest of us are not able to delete posts we don't like, avant can. He claims to be against censorship. Apparently not if comments come too close to home.... Read more
Can anyone tell me how much my cars top used price would have been in December 2019.
My car is a 2017 17 reg Astra elite nav 1.6 cdti 109 BHP. 5 door hatch. 21k miles with 1 former keeper. My car is silver with full service history.... Read more
Insurance have to give you retail value, or thats what LV and other insurances companies have told me whenever I had to deal with a write off.
After all, the money is given to buy an equivalent replacement.. You can't buy at trade and won't be expected to buy privately. So give them at least two or more examples of nearest equivalent cars and they IME will usually go with them (adjusted for mileage and condition)....
My sisters car requires a full service - mileage at 60K. Halford £265, Kwik Fit £160, ATS Euromaster wanted £225 and Honda wanted £310. Local Honda dealer could not be bothered to return my call, went to book with a dealer 8 miles away in Surrey/London border that price matched at £215...shows how much profit margin is built in. My question should we get fuel filter and coolant properly drained which are all extras. Honda want £90 for coolant and between £90 to £160 for fuel filter depending on external or internal. Should I get coolant changed? its been six years....
The Honda and Halford price includes brake fluid change..... Read more
As much as I deplore his threads, how can corrosion occur with an absence of oxygen?
It can't....
I am reading today on the DM online that major manufacturers have released figures suggesting that the manufacture of their EVs is releasing some 63% MORE CO2 than their ice cars. They are suggesting that your EV would need to go some 50000miles to offset the CO2. Their comments are in response to the UK and their 2030 edit. You really have to wonder what is "driving" this rush to be " clean" The raw materials and how they are mined is another questionable area. Read more
The only material difference between an EV and ICE car is the powertrain - all other components are substantially identical.
Motors in industrial settings are typically very long lived - I would expect EVs to be far more reliable that the typical ICE with countless bearings and cogs in engine, gearbox and differentials. It may be that electrical control components in an ICE are better proven than those currently used in EVs - but only time and evidence will show....
Hi. I’m really hoping someone can help me on here. My parked car was written off by a hit and run driver in December 2019 and the fault vehicles insurance company have only just decided to pay me for my car. My car wasn’t insured at the time because I was about to travel and wasn’t driving it.
I am after an accurate valuation for my car in December 2019. I can’t find historic valuations anywhere but I am aware that some people on here, especially traders will have access to this. I know the current valuations on the internet are around £3k less than last year.... Read more
For some reason he's started a new thread on the same topic. Please use that.
When the car is particularly cold at start up (less than 5C outside) as soon as i put the heated windscreen on there's a really loud screeching for about 30 seconds then it tapers off. It's only 2 years old and still in warranty so it was checked out last year but at the time I thought it was the heater and they couldn't find anything wrong. I can take it in again but if they don't find anything wrong then I'll be liable for the diagnostic charge. Has anyone any idea what it could be? Read more

Hi,
The questions I have are, as my car has an electric handbrake do i have to do anything different from having a manual handbrake? ... Read more
Thanks for the help much appreciated.
I have replaced the brake pads and disks. The problem i have now is the brake pedal travels to the floor. If I pump the pedal a few times it gets harder towards the top but if I wait say 15 seconds and press the pedal it goes to the floor. The brake does stop the car but I don't trust it something not right. What could be the problem?...
Don't believe a word of this research!
It's been compulsory for cars built since 1998 to have factory fitted immobilisers. Yet according to this survey only 36% of drivers have one!!!
Allegedly only 38% have a steering lock (built in). Pretty sure that since the 1970's virtually every car on the road has had to have either a steering lock or a lock which locks the transmission lever.
Allegedly 7% of drivers have a wheel clamp. The only cars I see clamped (in Scotland) are clamped by the DVLA.
The stats in this article are completely wrong!!

I am one of the 49 per cent who believes that the more someone drives the more they should pay in tax. For decades many of us have suggested scrapping bureaucratic VED, which a significant minority of motorists manage to avoid, and placing the entire tax burden on fuel which is almost impossible to avoid.
Any attempt to reconsider road pricing is likely to provoke the same public resentment as it did 13 years ago. People do not want their every move monitored by a spy box in the car. Read more
What about those people who work but have to commute a good distance and are not in a gas guzzling vehicle and dont have much money but need to work to pay bills. Those that are rich and have gas guzzlers will not care they can afford it. I need my job and pay enough taxes. How about getting people off their backside into jobs so all their benefits save the tax payers money. It is always the drivers that get hit has to stop. We have to visit elderly disabled relatives 90 miles away to ensure they have food prescriptions and check they are ok. Can't believe how much in taxes comes out of my small wage. While others on benefits have holidays and a social life we dont fed up with us workers getting hit whilst nothing is done to get people who abuse the system off their rear end.
Hi
The bottom of the front spoiler is getting badly scratched every time I exit our drive
The reason being the wide 25cm dropped kerb has dropped and the road where it joins the dropped kerb has sunk as well
The Council cake and did a botch job actually putting a layer of asphalt on top of 30% of the dropped kerb
They have rejected my insurace claim stating that it is not in need of repair or a. Reach of section 41 of the Road Traffic Act 1980
Help please
Thanks Read more
As we all know only too well, you really have to fight for your rights or any form of restitution these days. Sad to say that even, actually especially, local authorities have a first response position of...'Go away, it is nothing to do with us and you are wrong". Eventually they pay dearly for that stance if you are right. I have first hand experience of this.
As DVD says, get your facts right and tackle them again with some bullet points to outline your case. Round here drop kerbs are only allowed to be installed from an approved list of contractors. Cowboys more like having seen their work first hand. However good or bad these companies have the right amount of Public and Private Liability Insurance that the council require, should a case like this arise. If it is recent installation then you may be in luck. If not then the LA is the port of call who may well try to pass the buck to a county coucil in an effort to fob you off. You may have to dig around to find out whom to pursue. Good luck....
misar, my dear fellow. May I refer you to an apposite quote;
It is the reply from Pressdram in the case...
