Hello everyone. I own W211 E200 Kompressor 2004 I want to change the oil but I don't know 5w30 or 5w40? Or maybe 0w? Mileage 180000tkm. In the book I looked, I found only tolerance 229.3 or 229.5. ATP in advance.

Asda sell different oils that meets most manufacturers specs. I bought 5 litres of Ford spec Fully Synth 5w30 last year for £15. They do VAG spec oils as well (we need some for the Fabia just in case) just need to check the exact spec I need before I next visit).

we have had transmission malfunction come up a few times only in reverse though , cant remember the code but it was a bit vague so we have been told to drive it in manual that seems to rectify it a bit bus as soon as you go back to just using drive eventually it comes back. our mechanic said it may be the solonoid , does this sound plausible.

we also have a leak in the pipes to the gear box and we have been quoted 350 to fix plus complete fluid change , is this price about right... Read more

I am by no means an expert but I guess the price seems roughly right especially if you are in the south of the country. Probably 150-200 parts and 2-3 hours of labour. Make sure the change is a total change not just an empty and refill which leaves half of the old fluid behind.

Your friend may well go to this type of firm for help, just make sure its one that doesn't take a share of his claim, but claims their costs as part of the awarded fees / costs / medical expenses. If he can't fund the costs himself - and that's a key element - then this type of firm can be helpful. Just ask around to get a reputable one.

Thankyou Zippy, thankfully his case is long over, he used a decent solicitor who he funded, i don't know about medical expert reports.

Glad your case worked too, Concrete, it got to very close to the court date before my friends previous employer/insurer offered suitable compensation.

Where you get it from I've no idea - if you've been in France for any length of time you will know how difficult it is to get specialist items like this. - Try amazon.fr, wemoto. Norauto etc....

Just wondering what to do when your insurance company won't argue your case. Briefly, we live in a hammerhead cul-de-sac. I entered the right hand side of the hammerhead and reversed straight back towards my drive. As I did so a lady reversed out of a driveway at right angles into my side. much more damage to my car than hers. She apologized and clearly considered it to be her fault, as did an independent witness. My insurance company wants to settle 50/50 as "that's what we always do when both parties are reversing" Read more

Depending on the cost of repairs, can you not both pay privately to fix the damage to your own vehicle?. It might be cheaper than losing your excess and your NCB. This worked for me a couple of years ago when we both reversed into each other in a car park. But I guess having informed your insurance your premium will already be increased.

So I'm in the market for a car, looking for something fun to drive/own, but not too expensive. Wouldn't be putting too many miles on it, say 5k a year.

Was thinking this 2.0 TFSI S line Sportback looked not too bad. Any thoughts on owning one of these that's getting on for 100k miles?... Read more

I wouldn’t touch it. Leave the performance metal until you can afford a good low mileage car with history. Most of them have been hammered senseless and probably mapped for extra power which puts a great deal of excess stress on already aged and worn components.

My biggest concern is; if i can't check the dipstick, what problems could I be missing? Cloudy oil etc.?

While I realise that most 'modern' cars do an oil-level check on start-up, I would much prefer to be able to look at the condition of the oil without having to run some out of the sump.

Interesting. I just hope it was the exception rather than the rule. The one I had as a courtesy car was back in 2017/18 if I recall and was also the low-powered version. I'll keep an eye on that sort of issue when I am on the lookout for a replacement of my Mazda3.

Mazda still seem to have some quality control issues compared to Toyota - I know there also was a problem with the AC condensers with the 2 and realted CX-3 of the same vintage.
