i bought a new car through a broker, but i'm hesitant about transferring the balance (not an insignificant sum!) to the broker. I'd rather pay the Dealer. The Dealer has my car and says they've done business with this broker before.
I'm worried in case the broker goes broke and i lose my money.... Read more
Hello everyone, I have Renault Laguna 1.9 DCI 2005 and It’s been a very long time since i started fixing it, and I’m desperate now i need your help! The car had no power whatsoever I checked the EGR, changed it and i still had the same problem, i took put the egr and the turbo sound was very loud. I opened the turbo amd the engine, cleaned it took everything apart, the problem remained. I bought a new second hand turbo, with a new egr and the new turbo blew again, there was white smoke coming from the exhaust and inside the car, probably from the front. So please if you have any experience about this car and the turbo problems I would appreciate your opinions, i will get a new turbo and I’ve been told that there is something like a sieve, probably inside in one of the pipes or the hoses that are going in or out the turbo, still not sure where it is, but it doesn’t let enough oil through, because it gets greasy. Please let me know if there is any solution you would’ve think of, thank you!! Read more
Unfortunately, this car with this engine is riddled with potential problems. If you do a good google search, I’m sure you’ll find numerous horror stories of turbo failures. I understand that the intercooler, plus the turbo oil feed and return pipes MUST be thoroughly cleaned to avoid a repeat failure.
Do search for more info as I may have missed out further necessary steps.
Went to top up my engine oil tonight and picked up bottle of t cut, realises when I started poring it that it was wrong colour . Help! How bad is it?My son is supposed to be doing his driving test in it tomorrow TIA Read more
In the big diesel industrial generator industry there can be a problem with standby gennys started up weekly or whatever to run a regular test, if this is done without loading the generator with an electrical load bank the engine can glaze the cylinder bores with the zinc additives from the oil, which gives bad ring sealing and increased oil consumption.
There was a solution from a particular diesel engine manufacturer called "Cat Powder" (guess which one?)...

I'd opt for valve stem oil seals. No real problem and they can be replaced quite cheaply with the right gear. Alternatively, look at replacing the engine oil with something heavier.
On my way to the beach this weekend I turned on to a nice straight road with good visibilty and no oncoming traffic.
There was a 1-series BMW ahead of me and ahead of him was a large Volvo saloon. I had been following the BMW for a few miles and was keen to overtake as soon as it was safe.... Read more
Could depend on where you may have struck the Volvo. If you hit his rear then it would be your fault, in not then must less certain.
I have recently had the cam belt / water pump / tensioners replaced on my Sharan.
I've noticed something which I'm fairly sure didn't happen before but it may be I just hadn't noticed it.... Read more
Never noticed that.
I'll look out for it, but it may be an effect of sophisticated control systems which my cars don't have....
Bought some of this stuff somewhat expensive but its done a sublime job on the face of it.....anyone else have experience of the stuff inotherwards will the "effect" last on the car after it rains a few times etc etc
Am not expecting miracles obviously.... Read more
Could I tag on to this thread by asking for opinions on Meguair's Headlight Restoration Kit. The lenses on the headlights of my Mazda 6 have misted over quite badly to the extent that the headlight beam (not particularly good before the misting took place) is noticeably affected. Meguar's stuff generally gets good press but the headlight kit is not exactly cheap at £20. If I thought that it would work I would invest but I would like to know in advance that there would likely be an improvement. Opinions would be very welcome.
Recently bought an Audi A4 1.9 TDI I’m having trouble with power coming on and off ever so slightly when I accelerate from 3rd to 5th I changed the boost control valve with no difference. I have been lead down the road of a new turbo but there is no play in the turbo I believe the vanes in the turbo are getting stuck has anyone a quick fix to this problem?? Read more

Hi all,
I've just paid a grand for a 2013 Mondeo that was used as a taxi from new. It's got 220,000 miles on it but is in excellent condition. Previous owner serviced it every 10k miles and past it's last MOT with no advisories. ... Read more

We have bought 3 cars through a broker now and all 3 have been via Carfile.net.
They are simply an introduction agency who pass your details to one of their dealers who then do all the business with you. All monies (including deposit) are paid to the dealer....
