I have just got back from the USA and my hire car was a Chevolet Impala.

It was fantastic. It had a 3.5 litre V6 engine with 305 bhp.The quality and finish was amazing with a huge touchscreen, blind spot monitoring and collision warning. If they sold them in the UK i would have one in a heartbeat.... Read more

Its About a foot longer, so similar to a Jag XJ, rather than a Mondeo.

I have the full climate control on a 3.2 V6 engined 2005 Vectra . The heater was working last cold spell but now only blows cold. The usual causes that are listed viz the mixer servo stops working or the matrix is blocked or the heater fan resistor is blown have been checked and found to be OK. The mixer servo moves the mixer flap lever, the two hoses to/from the matrix are both hot and the fan works on all steering. Thermostat must be OK as the car runs between 80 & 90 degrees, depending on type of journey, as it has always done, and I don't think the water-pump can be duff as the car doesn't overheat.

Has anyone any other thoughts ? Read more

I would suggest you check the water flow out of the heater matrix. The pipes may be hot ,but there could be no transfer of coolant.

Even I have come to understand that there are many variables in being able to evaluate cars. However, is there a source of any data on frequency of rust problems with differing makers' car bodywork. ? Other than hoping individual review make reference, and not relevant to a brand new car. Always fancied a Mk 5 TDI Golf.

But where do I look for Rust and which model year will be fitted with the best AWF diesel engine with the solenoid operated injectors as recommended in this thread?

Just bought an a class on a w plate but you can barely see mileage counter. I believe you can change the bulb. Any ideas what type of bulb it is? Read more

I would say that it is just the backlight bulb not working, nothing else.

hi, i will be changing the l/h engine mount on my e39, and wondered if anyone had any tips? is it best to remove the mount bracket or is ok to lift the engine off the mount? Read more

Peter.N.

I did have an E39 a few years ago but never changed an engine mount but the normal procedure is to take the weight of the engine with the jack, undo the bolts then lift the engine clear of the mount, remove the bolts then the mounting.

Just as rob says - get it reported and it should be ok. I know VW are not known for their excellent customer service but a few days won't make any difference. Plus if you can prove it was a dealer repair that should be covered for 12 months anyway.

Can someone please tell me where the horn relay is please

Many thanks Read more

sparky29

I think you will find the relay is part of the central junction box which is situated behind the glovebox. It is an integral component and cannot be replaced as a seperate part. Why do you think it is faulty?

That will explain why there is no mention of it on internet searches for this particular model....

I have just read that a far eastern manufacturer (Kia) feels it necessary to redesign the suspension of its RHD models destined for the UK because our roads are so bad. Does that make anyone else feel embarrassed or ashamed to be British? It has come to a pretty pass when countries which until recently had zilch manufacturing ability are now tailoring their products to our third world broken roads littered with bits of coil springs. Oh come on don't try and tell me you've not noticed the litter and Graffiti in many European cites, granted much of Scandinavia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland are beautifully kept but those southern European countries who have had year after year of recession truly are suffering and public services have been decimated in ways that we simply don't see in the UK.

It is useful to have the opinions of a motorist (especially one who knows what he is talking about) on their experience with a car - old or new vehicle. Thanks for your posts ORB.
