My BMW makes a slight knocking noise when going over bumps. It only happens at slow speeds. I jacked up the car and shook the wheels grabbing 12 and 6 oclock then 3 and 9 oclock and no play was found. The steering also feels slightly 'wooly' when turning corners. Does this sound like the anti roll bar links? Read more
Woolly steering on these is most commonly caused by worn bushes on the rear of the lower suspension arms.Get someone to drive the car forwards slowly while watching the front wheel to see if it moves excessively front to back on take off.
Hi all
Following on from my black oil post a little while ago I took a closer look at the service stamps today. I am concerned they may be fake. I can't find any trace of the garage online at the address given on the stamps, and the contact number looks iffy (it starts 0976... why on earth did I not see this at the time?)
Anyhow, IF this service history was faked, would I have any rights? The car is low mileage and I do not doubt the mileage is genuine, rather, that the old owner never bothered having it serviced because it was doing such low miles. I bought it back in March from a trade seller, though so far have had no major issues Read more
Stamps in a book prove nothing. Kia know this is a fact and to get repairs carried out under the 7 year warranty you have to supply invoices to prove that the work has been done that detail parts used. Stamps are available on a well known auction site you know.
I am looking to buy a Mondeo 2.0 tdci, as per your recommendations, however I am confused as to which variant to buy as the engine comes with different outputs ie 140 bhp, or 160 hp. I am wanting a titanium variant . Can you recommend which option to go for considering running costs, road tax etc. Read more
I have a 59 plate 2.0 tdci(140 bhp).It averages 38 round town and 53 on a run.Road tax is £185 (i think the newer models are less).
Its now 6 years old and i only mainly do trips around town, maybe not more than 3 miles and i have never had any trouble with the dpf.I reset the trip computer after its done a regen and then when it reaches around 550 miles i take it for a spirited run keeping the revs high. This starts a regen and it lasts about 10 minutes.
I do make sure the oil is changed every year and only with low ash oil.I also use Shell Optimax as i feel it keeps everything cleaner and also the car has more power and is smoother and does more to the gallon which off sets the extra cost.
I only do 7000 miles a year and all the doom mongers on here will say that i should have got a petrol model. They were selling them off, prereg, with £7500 off list so it was too good an offer to miss.
I like the way the diesel drives compared to the petrol. Also the exhaust lasts longer due to no water being given out. This Mondeo has been more reliable than any petrol cars i've had and i have no intention of changing any time soon.
Hi all,
New to this site, so I appologise in advanced if I am asking something that not the norm on here.
I have a automatic 2002 K11 Facelift 1.4 SE. It's done less that 30k and is in pukka condition.
A few months ago I noticed that the car would take a little longer to jump in to the next gear and has become a bit less responsive and nippy. Now the engine light stays on and the Sports light flashes about 5 times when the car is started.
When starting my car and driving, the car seems to struggle to jump into the next gear and then over revs, moving very little with a lot of throttle being applied. This happens at the start of a journey, and I would need to turn the car on and off for it to go back to normal and be a driveable, but less responsive and nippy journey (with the engine light still on).
I have read online that throttle body issues are common with Micra's, but I took it to a sound and honest garage yesterday who said it seems like a problem with the clutch, which would mean a £650+VAT repair.
Just want to see if anyone on here has any advice as to what it could be, and if it is an easy enough fix for me to do.
Cheers,
Ian. Read more
Thanks for that. Seems like the gearbox after a few garages have had a look at it. I'm taking it to an old school micra specialist on Monday, hopefully they won't put the final nail in the coffin. I'll keep ya posted.
Every July is the same - house & car insurance, breakdown cover, car service..............
House cover passed OK - same as last year.
Car Insurance leapt £60 to £234 - quick comparison & they almost matched the cheapest £180 in the end so OK.
Car service - used same garage for 3 years - first quote £250, ended £155 after speaking to the service manager & not the girl on the phone..
Breakdown Cover - last time £64 - new quote £79,
Did some ferreting around & lo & behold Green Flag £52.56 for top packge (except Europe travel) - it said from £60 & came in less - cannot be bad..
I left Green Flag some 8/9+ years ago when they went from some £90+ for a year to some £130/£140+. I await next year when they try & double it BUT for the next 12 months their cover was the "best price" from a name I could recognise. Read more
>>yet each year I have to go through the same tedious routine of >>challenging the first price
Gem for 3 yrs then they upped the premium....
I am looking for points of interest to put forward a suggestion to my MP that
"All costs incurred by the nhs following a motor vehicle accident should be covered by the guilty parties insurance"
naturally once fault has been apportioned.
I have 2 friends who have been hospitalized after accidents and the costs are probably
in the hundreds of thousands between operations/intensive care and rehabilitation. Read more
"Each time there is an accident, a motor insurer is legally obliged to inform the NHS, which will determine if it is liable for any costs.
Under the old system, the NHS could claim a flat-rate fee of £21.30 for emergency treatment, but under the new system it can claim much more - £354.
The NHS can also recover the costs of hospital admissions. Insurers are charged £435 per day with a maximum charge of £10,000 in any one case."
Recently fixed broken wires in drivers door so drivers door central locking on fob now works. For some reason, usually as I start driving the doors automatically lock on there own. Any ideas??? Read more
Its a 52 plate ka luxury. Checked and repaired wires between drivers door and door pillar and drivers door now works on fob. There is one wire(I think orange and black) if I connect it the locking malfunctions( levers go on and out and in and out and returns to unlocked)????
2.0 diesel 1cd-ftv blue smoke when accelerating, it is fine when normal driving only happens when i overtake.
any suggestions Read more
yes I'm thinking turbo. as far as I know its the original. there is no blue smoke on start up. I have checked the spindle there is no excessive play, so most likely turbo seals. I can live with turbo going but piston ring failure means new engine. I am hoping to get 300k out this engine
So for a first car, after sharing my mum's car for nearly a year, I've been looking at some of the old style Toyota Yaris - one in particular I'm looking at has done 32,000 miles - the 1.4 D-4D. Now I'm going to be seeing the car in person soon but the advert has claimed it has full service history, has been well looked after, no advisories previous MOT etc - would you say reliability wise this car would be a safe bet to last a while, or would I do better looking at a newer car with higher mileage?
One thing that attracted this car to me was how reliable it was claimed - would this still hold true to a well looked after 11-year old car? I know the main things to look out for would be rust in various places, if I could have any more tips on what to look out for that'd be great as well because this car seems to tick all of the boxes. buy just be ready to change drop links. . the fuel filter might need a big chain to get it free
Suggest they rectify immediately otherwise you will report them to Trading Standards as well as VOSA for passing a car for MoT which should have failed.
Do not drive the vehicle any more as this could constitute acceptance of the fault as well.
Take it directly to them, with someone with you, outline the faults and demand it be repaired. If they refuse then you will need to formally reject the vehicle, in writing), then report to VOSA and Trading Standards. Take a note of the mileage and park it up. Inconvenient I know but best way, especially bearing in mind it is not road legal.
Good Luck
