Hi,
Had this diagnosed as the fault by Nissan. Car is only worth £700 but I like it. Compressor is noisy and air con not working.
I can get compressors on ebay for £30-40. What is the likely labour charge from an independent? Read more

Psychologists at Plymouth University are researching ways to make driving safety campaigns more effective, and have a short online survey that they would like as many people as possible to do. The survey contains a 30 second TV advert, followed by some questions about different driving situations. You can find out more about the survey here:

Incidentally, I'm guessing the title is a typo, they didn't make the 207 back in 2002.
the car starts fine for about 30 seconds then starts to pop back through the air filter ,some times quite vigorously and some time is a single pop ,it rev up and drives but seem low on power ,could it be a bent valve as is comes up miss fire number 4 cylinder ,ive changed the plug and the coil pack ,or could it be an air leak some were ,if the engine is over revved[when the kick down comes in ] my compression fitting don't fit the plug thread ,is it different from the normal plugs, sorry its long winded ,any ideas ,thanks ray. Hi all
This morning my Insignia would not turn over the engine the battery was that flat. The RAC got me going again and ran a check which showed the battery and charging circuit was good and and also the at rest drain was ok too. The car was at a garage all day to have an engine hesitation issue investigated and a new maf was fitted which failed btw. On picking the car up the battery was flat again. They got me going again for my 20 mile drive home and all was ok. I just tried it now before bedtime and its flat yet again!!. Do I need a new battery despite what the RAC test said? Read more
You could try disconnecting the battery when you park and see if it still goes flat, if it does the battery is u/s if it doesn't something is drawing quite a lot of current when its parked.
If you have access to a multimeter, connect it in series with the battery supply i.e remove a battery terminal and connect one meter lead to it and connect the other one to the battery, you will need the meter on the 'amps' range, make sure everything is turned off and wait for a few minutes for all the electronics to shut down before you connect the meter.
If it reads much more than about 100ma you have a fault, the first place to start is the alternator, disconnect the lead and see if there is any current flowing - there shouldn't be.
I am annoyed at myself as I have managed to keep a clean license for 10 years but Saturday I noticed the dreaded double flash of the speed camera in my mirror.
Today the letter arrived, I have 28 days to send the completed form back.
From experience with my current insurer Highway (they increased my premium by a huge amount when I moved to a better area), I know they will increase my premium by a stupid amount so I got some quotes on a compare site with adding the 3 points and there are a couple of companies with quotes similar to what I am paying now with 0 points with Highway.
I paid for 12 months insurance in advance last January. When Highway tell me I need to pay loads more can I cancel my policy, will I get a refund for the remaining 5 or 6 months? Or am I stuck with them and have to pay whatever they say for the remaining 5 or 6 months? Read more
Well done bluenun, you are now officially a lesser risk than previously I would think. Let us know how it goes when you renew your insurance. Cheers Concrete
Bit of a strange one this guys, but appreciate any advice.
Had the gearbox taken out of our 4x4 Tiguan last week, dismantled, refurrbed, and put back together – under warranty – due to a hole in the casing, spewing oil all over the road and DMF!
Last few days it’s driven perfectly again, until this morning. I can suddenly feel the engine running through the clutch pedal, the clutch has become quite spongy and stiff, gears a bit notchy, and worst of all there’s a horrendous ‘knock’ under the bonnet when the car goes over a bump at fairly slow speeds. Sound like something is incredibly loose, and is whacking against the chassis towards the front of the car – somewhere between gearbox and mid-engine.
It’s definitely not suspension, can’t see anything loose under it (like exhaust pipe etc).
It’s going back tomorrow, but given how much time the dealer’s had it in the last 6 weeks I’m beginning to get a bit cheesed off.
Any thoughts around what may be causing it much appreciated?

Sounds like an engine/gearbox support brace bar has come adrift or not been tightened correctly.

Hi,
Took my car into Nissan today to diagnose two problems. One was the ignition coil which I'm replacing myself. The other is the air con. They said it is definitely the compressor. I can get them on ebay for 40 quid. Car is 13 years old but I like it.
I am thinking to perhaps wait to see if it gets through the MOT in November and if all okay then sort the air con, well get a professional I know to.
Question is, will driving it with this broken compressor cause further damage? Could something overheat? Read more
Thanks both of you.
