Sorry, we can't do 'V' codes here. You will need either a Ford dealer or one of the paid online services.

My 62 plate focus failed on Sunday. After a lot of phone calls it seems that I was never informed about a recall last April to replace the degas hose and I now need the engine replacing. Ford are going to replace the engine in the extended warranty - which I am happy about, but they are unwilling to cover the cost of a hire car as it is now out of warranty. This has left me very annoyed - I have already paid £87 to have my car moved from my local garage to the ford garage and almost £40 in taxis to work. I will then have to fork out to hire a car for the next 2-3 weeks which is going to add up also. I've told them on the phone that I'm really not happy and don't feel I should be paying for this as it is a fault due to ford. Has anyone been in this situation that can give me any advice? Orwill I just have to pay up? Thanks Read more

This could be due to it bring a year old when I bought it!

So how can you criticise Ford for not getting a letter to you if YOU never let them know you were a new owner of the car? I would say you should count yourself fortunate that you're getting a new engine under warranty.

Oh, BTW, warranty is for fixing the car, not "incidental" expenses....

Just realised why I do not use British Airways very often!

Anyone who flys reasonably regularly and lives in the North West (Manchester Airport) knows that the vast majority of BA flights require a change at Heathrow (or Gatwick), thus 95% of my journies are with Lufthansa or KLM.... Read more

I suppose air travel has come on a bit since the 70's. The main obstacle for me now is the airport terminal experience. The flight is a minor consideration compared to the rigmarole of check in and security. Also sleazyjets' infuriating habit of not announcing the departure gate until only 15 to 20 minutes before a flight, which makes it a little tight to complete the usual 20 kilometre walk to it!!!!

I used to love British Caledonian, in and out of Libya in the 70's. The worst was Air Algerie to Algiers/Oran. The big treat of the flight was when they brought round a tray of sweets and you were allowed one! The best was Gulfair to Bahrain. Free everything and lots of pretty stewardesses. And they say things improve!!! Cheers Concrete

When it was necessary to display a tax disc on your windscreen it was illegal to show an out-of-date disc.

Since the change in the law whereby a tax disc does not have to be shown, is it still illegal to have an out-of-disc. e.g. the last one you purchased before the changes? I have noticed quite a few vehicles (even commercial vans) with old discs. Read more

Warning

I still have mine on display, but I also keep my old tax discs behind the most recent one. Just incase, in case anyone disputes I have not paid previous road tax...

As for MOT reminders, I with the DVLA woudl send out emails..... Especially, if dates don't line up.

Hi all,

Rumour has it that the Toyota Prius eats brake discs and pads in an effort to regenerate the batteries.

I'm looking at maybe a 10 plate Prius or a 12/13 plate Auris.

Does anyone here have any specific knowledge of this on either the Prius or Auris, ie owners old and new or technical experts.

I'd like to try and find a definitive answer before I spend my pennies!

Many thanks. Read more

I like to give mine a hard brake now and then.

The OP states it's only done 14K miles in three years and needed new discs & pads due to corrosion of the discs. I wonder if it's driven gently, with the emphasis on economy? It is a hybrid.

Is remapping any use for my car? Still under Hyundai Guarentee. Read more

The evidence for improved mpg is always taken from the car computer - which is conned by the remap in the same way as the ECU.

The increased power/torque is likely to be real - but how often do you drive at full throttle - becuase at part throttle you can always get more power/torque from the engine by pressing the pedal further!...

Got an advisory that my battery was down to 63%. Is it time to change the battery or just keep going 'til it packs in completely?

Hillman, I think in your examples it was a case of Murphy's law, as despite the rain and awkward situation you were able to summon assistance. Sod's law is a more extreme version of Murphy's law. While Murphy's law says that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong (eventually), Sod's law requires that it always goes wrong with the worst possible outcome.

In this case however I would also concede that Resistentialism (the seemingly spiteful behavior manifested by inanimate objects) may apply in which case the battery will be replaced and then the new one will fail whilst the original one will be installed in the car of the garage apprentice where it will function without problems for many years.

M25 in Kent between M26 and services, M25 in Hertfordshire approx between A10 after tunnel towards A1(M) ... areas patrolled by the stealth speed cameras - stealth because they are not painted yellow. There are stopping areas, but as alerady stated how likely is one going to conveniently find such an area when broken down, let alone cross 3 up to live lanes to get there. Fatal accident waiting to happen.
