This is driving me crazy. My paintwork was mint, but i'm getting new scratches appearing daily on the roof, bonnet and pillars of my car. I have owned the car only a couple of months and live and work close to the coast in Cornwall. Is there anything I can do? I don't have a garage and the works car park (right by the sea) is open. Maybe some kind of cover? Bird poo I can deal with, but the scratches are something else. Read more

Yes, I am loosing it....

Funny you should say that. I was horrified when I read my last post the next day and immediately had a vision of a car park full of cars with mohican hairstyles.

I was looking for some info regarding the timing chain issues on the BMW n47 engines. From what I have read on forums the fault occurs on engines built between 07-09.

Does anyone know if the fault is still as common in newer 520d's? ... Read more

The first production car I can remember that had a cam belt, was the 1.6 and 2.0 Ford SOHC motors in the seventies,

First car I had with a cam belt was a 1.8 Viva. The engine was introduced in the Victor in 1.6 and 2.0 versions in about 1968 so just predated the Ford "Pinto" engine.

I'm thinking of getting a crossover to replace my Mondeo, it has been excellent but I want something slightly smaller but not too small.
Anyone any opinions on Qashqais or Kugas? Qashqai gets good reviews but diesels look underpowered to me? also think they are Renault engines which I had bad experiences with in the past. Kuga looks perhaps less sophisticated but based on Focus should be strong and reliable?
Looking to spend around 20k on something new or nearly new. Read more

I bought a new Kuga in December - 2.0TDCi 180 AWD. It's a great car, certainly has enough power and I'm averaging just over 42mpg, which given the size of the car and that I'm not the most frugal driver in the world, I don't think is too bad. Can't comment on the Powershift gearbox in the Kuga, mine is a manual, but we had a CMAX Powershift until 12 months ago - it was fantastic, very smooth and responsive, only 2mpg less than the manual version we had before that one.

Best advice is to test drive it - our dealer let me have a 24 hour test drive before buying and by using Ford Options we got a sizeable discount on the list price of the car....

Girlfriends car (2012 I30 auto) has recently had a problem with the air conditioning, according to the main dealers the Evaporator behind the dash has a leak(and not the condenser by the rad that I was expecting).

Just waiting for the garage to confirm that it will be repaired under warranty, though have been told it could be weeks before a decision is made. understand it is a major job with the dash having to come out.... Read more

My i30 has been squeak and rattle free; however, my previous car, (new Toyota Corolla) had a rattle behind the dashboard which, however, the dealer fixed in one day, so remove and refit can be done successfully.

On February 10th, I had my car over at a Ford delaer for a Cam belt / water pump change and MOT test.

When I received the car back, I found that one of the tyres (front driver side) was different. It was a Michelin Cinturato P7, while the other 3 tyres were Good Year Efficient Grip (that I had replaced as a set). When I queried this with the service manager he investigated and told me that the driver who collected the car from my home had had a puncture, and had changed the tyre without informing the service department (but using a new original tyre from their parts department.) I was unhappy that a different brand / type of tyre from the other 3 were used, but the service manager apologized and said that they did not stock Good Year tyres.... Read more

There's balancing and really meticulous balacing: not everywhere will take the trouble to achieve 100% static and dynamic balance, so may consider 98% is good enough, which it may be in most cases.

Some cars are more sensitive to balance than others, too.

Hi, I have just bought a mk5 golf and there is a warning light dislplayed to do with the brake pads, however they dont need replaced!

I have read up previously about cutting the plug on the pads to close the circuit, however the passenger side has been closed previously and the drivers side appears to be a single wire going to the wheel speed sensor alone? I believe the backs dont have any..... Read more

Evening all - im very impressed with the Renault Kadjar and it's on the list for my next Taxi. Anyone know of its chain or belt cam on the DCI? thanks in advance. Ciaran Read more

Tried the car on a test day last summer and I was surprised by the lack of forward vision caused by the thick screen pillers.

Not ideal IMHO for a taxi driver on the lookout for paying clients!

I've got the Hydractive III+ suspension. I've noticed recently some odd things (I should point out I rarely use Sport mode, all the observations below are in Normal mode):

(1) from Normal height, I used to press the 'down' button to lower it, the front would go down first followed by the rear and a diagram would show up in the driver's console indication the car was in the Low position. This would take about 4-5 seconds. Then pressing 'raise' would take the car up to Normal, again about 4-5 seconds and an indication on the console that the car was at Normal height. Now, however, when in Normal and pressing the 'down' button, whilst the front drops, nothing seems to happen at the rear, and no message comes up in the console indicating the Low position. I've waited as much as a minute for this to happen. At this point, I press the 'raise' button and immediately a message comes up saying the car is in Normal position - but the front hasn't budged so is still in Low. To get back to "true" Normal, I have to press 'raise' again to take it (successfully) to the Mid-High position, then lower it back to Normal. The car then drives/rides as normal.

(2) Driving just after Easter in France on good A roads (130 kph), the car would sometimes ride as if on the bump stops, i.e. every bump or undulation in the road would be felt with a little bump and a small upwards reaction. When I stopped and checked the height, it was clear that it was indeed low at both front and rear. I would press 'raise' which would take it up the Mid-High (so the car thought it had been in the Normal position), then lower it to Normal, and all was well....until it happened again adter an arbitrary number of Km. As the roads were very smooth (why can't ours be the same?) I started to ignore it and eventually the car would raise itself off the bump stops and the ride would be normal again. Then it would go down again....then it would go up again. Since getting back to the UK, I haven't noticed this behaviour but I normally drive short distances at usually less than 70mph so I'm wondering if it's speed-related.

(3) I have sensed that both in Normal and (just for reference) Sport mode, the ride has become softer and more bouncy. In fact, driving now in Sport mode is about the same as Normal used to be.

(4) Driving over some of the local speed humps (the metal variety designed to slow you down to walking pace) the front mudflaps are now hitting these.

Taking all these things into consideration, it seems obvious to me that there's a problem. If anyone with more knowledge than me of the C5 Mk III Hydractive suspension (so that would be everyone, probably) recognises the symptoms and more importantly the probable cause, I'd be very keen to hear. Nos. (1), (3) and (4) started happening about two months ago and my usual Citroen dealer is in denial about it. When (2) started happening, I insisted he get Citroen in to look at it. I'm taking the car in on Tuesday, it would be useful if I could give then some useful information on what the problem(s) might be. Read more

Firstly, if this is the same garage who refused to fit the bulbs i'd get another opinion.

I know very little about Cit's superb hydraulic suspension, i assume the model you have is still hydraulic....
