For the 3rd time in a year, my clutch has failed - nothing worn, just the wings being severed, this time doing 85mph on the M5. the first time we merely replaced the clutch, but on the 2nd we had the gearbox reviewed and new bearings. My garage is a good local one, and the GB was overhauled by a GB specialist. This time there are signs that the clutch plate has been vibrating, but the wngs have gone again too. Is there anything in the engine that would cause enough vibration to brake the clutch. The engine just over-revved when it went, and of course I then coasted to the hard shoulder

The engine isn't noisy as such but is does make a noise whilst idling which my sons Galaxy doesn't. The noise - sometimes like a "feathering", lessens when the clutch is pressed, and would come back again when released.... Read more

The section he is referring to is where the centre part of the plate (the bit with the splines and springs, if damped plate) attaches to the section with the friction material on it, not the actual diaphragm fingers that the bearing pushes against. A failure herer is characteristic of hanging the box on the centre plate when refitting, rather than using a transmission jack.

The reversing sensors on my car have finally given up. Can anyone recommend a make that I can fit to replace them ? The alarm sound must be loud because my hearing aid filters out the bleep of the present one and I have to rely on the lights. When we rented a Vauxhall Insignia last year I was very impressed with loud Boing when the reversing sensors worked. Sorry about the emissions !! Read more

Hello, am new to this forum as needed help with this problem on my car.

It's only got 65000 on the clock and has been a good runner up til the last month. The day before good friday I was driving home and doing about 25mph when I lost power and had EAC fail flashing up repeatedly. I then had to slow down for a mini roundabout and then stop and as I did all the lights on the dash came up and it felt like it'd stalled. I restarted it and it still was flashing EAC Fail and was in what i now know is limp home mode, i got it home with it cutting out when stationary and turning right (what fun). When parked up at home I waited for my dad to get back and look at it and he switched it on and all seemed well. He took it round the block and it was fine. So we assumed it'd just had a 'funny turn' but got the AA out and the bloke could find no wrong but suggested the throttle body might need seeing to. I then, on good Friday, drove it to my step mum's and had it die again on a busy high street, again eac fail limp home mode the whole lot. I get it the half a mile from there to hers and when there notice the engine's boiling hot and sounds like it's struggling (after a total 4 mile or so journey to hers). Then when going to leave hers that evening it 'went' again and we got the AA out to it who diagnosed a bad earth somewhere and him and my dad followed me home with it dying after two miles and still when slowing down feeling like it'd stalled and then when stopped revving on it's own and shaking and juddering. So the following wednesday it goes into a garage and comes back 12 days later, ecu checked for fault (no probs), a new throttle body (second hand) and new spark plugs. All seemed well and it did over 200 miles before doing it again two days ago and yesterday. however both times a 30 second wait before turning it on again and it was fine but now my engine management light is on but it drives fine, and yesterday it was only on 1/3 journeys i made that it did it. Am very confused and wondered if anyone on here had any ideas what could be causing it? whereas before the eac fail came up after a couple of miles of driving it came up last night 30 yards down the road.
sorry for long post, any help appreciated x Read more

Hi Guys

I have had a slow battery drain on my Vectra for about a year. If left for about 1-2 weeks its goes totally dead. Have replaced battery and still same thing happens Today I have investigated it a little bit.... Read more

At 60ma it would take something like 18 hours to draw 1 Ah, so over two weeks it will take about 18 Ah, if the battery is fairly new and in good condition it should stand that but because of the multiplate construction of car batteries they will still deliver enough current to start the car when their capacity is down to 25% or less but will have very little reserve.

I think you said you had fitted a new battery, in that case disconnect the alternator lead and see if any current is being drawn when the engine is off.

Sorry, I can't do Keycodes for "V" Ford car radios, only "M" ones.

You will need to go to a Ford main dealer or, considerably cheaper, there are sellers on Ebay who claim they can supply them for a small fee. That's what I did myself when I needed a "V" serial number Keycode for a relatives car a few years ago. Didn't have any problems and it only cost a couple of pounds.

Nice car to own. I ran a diesel VAG car but I covered between 25 and 30K miles per annum. Vast majority of miles on major roads. Perfect for the job....

My parents are looking for a new car with extremely comfortable rear seats (preferably reclining). They would prefer a smallish car (it is replacing an Audi A3) with 4 (or 5) doors for easy access and maybe a little higher ride than the A3. My mother is such a nervous passenger that they have decided she is better off in the back - but she has bad arthritis - hence the need for comfort as well!

I have always found Volvo seats to be extremely comfortable - but my experience has been limited to the front. I am therefore wondering if there are any smallish family cars that have individual rear seats rather than a bench?... Read more

Cyd - appreciate the car advice, and agree that MPV might be the way forward if my Mum wasn't such a car snob! I may have to look into the possibility of installing an after market rear seat as an alternative.

Regarding the anxiety - you are quite right with your advice, but she is already getting pretty good treatment from local surgery with medication as well as counselling type treatment....

Hi guys,

I've noticed that 2006/07 renault clio's 1.5 dci are selling for around £1400- £1900 which is soo much cheaper than most if not all other small hatchbacks in and around the same age, milage and size of engine. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to get an answer. Is there a reason for this? should I avoid getting one? whould a clio just be alot of bother? ... Read more
