hi, question for the diesel experts. My Kangoo 1.9D has started to produce black smoke over the last few weeks. Starts perfect whatever the weather and runs perefct up to half throttle then starts to smoke increasing as more throttle applied, worse under load up long hills. I ran thru a series of checks such as new air filter, fuel filter, cat clear. Egr was replaced by previous owner 6 months ago and is checked and working fine. I then took it to local diesel specialist who checked for fault codes and found none. Their suggestion was injectors or injection pump but thought more likely injectors because it ran and started so well. I got 3 secondhand injectors FOC and swapped them around hoping to get lucky but no change at all. My injectors were very sooty on the area just up from tip whereas replacements were perfectly clean. Is there a seal under end of injector and if these have failed could this cause the smoking ? Finally i have seen pump overhaul kits advertised and wondered if pump would need to be recalibrated afterwards if i just did seals ? It has the Lucas Epic pump. Thanks in advance and apolgies for the lengthy question. Read more

I take it this is an XUD engine or derivative if so I have never had an injector fail on one of those. I thought it was the EPIC pump that had the lift sensor, the earlier pumps were all mechanical - and much better especaily the Bosch.

The lights on the stereo, click and air conditioning had been slightly pulsing over the last week whilst the engine is running. Now the sound on the stereo is cutting in and out and some buttons are temperamental. This issue only occurs whilst the engine is running

Now the fuel gauge drops of intermittently and the powere steering dropped out once today for about 2mins

Whenever I buy a car I like to have a service done shortly after purchase, unless I have evidence one has recently been carried out. I obtained three quotes from independent garages for a full service including oil change, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs and pollen filter for 2003 Focus 1.8.

1. The local garage recommended by two neighbours that I have already been to a couple of times. £182.12 inc VAT.... Read more

Obviously all generalisations have exceptions. Reading this thread I wondered if there is any correlation between the size of a garage and its integrity.

Possibly having some good mechanics improves reputation - but if you get a duff one.......

I'm finding it hard to come up with an alternative to getting a 1 Series( 04-11), mk6 Golf, A3? Basically I'm looking to find any details or past experiences. I've read a lot of bad things, with regards to their reliability mostly. I'm looking at petrol models and thinking 118i is the best option. I do low mileage now (under 7k) and I'm trying to join the RAF this year so if successful the mileage could vary but will be inconsistent and will include a lot more motorway driving but also potentially around London and may have periods where it isn't being used so a diesel isn't really an option I don't think.

Anyway, anything you can share with me about my choices or my alternatives I would greatly appreciate it.... Read more

Hyundai Veloster, loads of kit, surprisingly nice interiors and you'll either love or loath the looks!

I think it looks pretty good in the flesh.

When replacing the hydraulic steering pump and after topping up the reservoir with 4 litres of hydraulic fluid, will it be enough to start the engine and let it run the the fluid will circulate and the suspension will rise again ?

Thanks

Gordon

I have replaced all the spheres and one rear brake caliper on mine and have just topped up the reservoir and started it, sorted itself out OK.

Hi i am looking for any information regarding my car. I purchased 1 and 1/2 years ago, ford fiesta zetec 55 plate. It had very low miles and thought i had a bargain due to the person emigrating. I have had no problems insuring it, taxing it or anything else. Received a valuation from we buy any car.com for £1500 and went to the appointment for them to offer me £350 and informing me that it was a back door import from the Isle of Man.

Does this actually bring the value of the car down? and what does it actually mean being a backdoor import. I purchased it off a someone who had owned it for a few years and she had bought it from a garage in england. Please any information would be appreciated. Since receiving a company vehicle am i going to be stuck with this or losing out on a lot of money.... Read more

Where are cars that are supplied to dealers on the Isle of Man sourced from?

Ford Europe's various factories....

I got a quote from webuyanycar.com which doesn't look too bad, although I've read they try to beat you down for any little thing when you take it for the full valuation.

I'm wondering whether I might do better taking it to an auction myself, my local one has a £30 entry fee and 10% + VAT commission.... Read more

I've only had one experience with WeBuyAnyCar, and found it to be quick, easy and with no quibbles. We turned up at the local point with the car, the bloke took 5 minutes to inspect it and the paperwork, then did the bank transfer there and then for the quoted amount.

Admittedly this was for a 1-year-old Skoda Fabia after my dad died, but it saved a lot of hassle and we got a LOT more cash than we would've got selling to a dealer (I checked with a couple of dealers first), and obviously saved all the hassle of tyre-kickers coming to view it....
