Hello,

I have a Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Titanium X 3dr 125, 15 plate, I bought it this year in January from a Ford dealership under their Ford Direct scheme, so 1 previous owner under their employment, had 5.2k miles and now just under 10k. ... Read more

The original question was 3 years ago and we haven't heard from him since. I'll move this to the Technical section and see if anyone can help.

a while back I was here lamenting the lack of decent quality foot pumps (and 12v compressors). I was cursing again on the weekend as I tried to inflate the tyres on my knackered old B5.5 Passat which was being collected for scrap. My Machine Mart 12v compressor packed up before it had inflated the first tyre, the plastic piston seems to overheat and sieze. Anyway, I had a brain wave - the wife's C-max had one of those useless puncture repair kits which I replaced in favour of a space saver. I found the kit in the garage and the compressor which came with it - a Continental ContiMobility - and it turns out it's actually pretty good. It feels re-assuringly heavy and by the sound in use has metal working components. It sounds like a compresor should when on, not a strained death rattle like the plastic jobs. It inflated each tyre from flat in under a minute. You can pick them up for £20 on ebay and my impressions are these are a much better quality item than the usual Chinese made 12v jobs. I've purchased another to keep in our Outlander. The only criticsm so far is the pressure gauge was flicking around all over the place in use but settled when you turn off and compared with a small digital gauge I use for my motorbike, was accurate. sorry to hear you're having bother Stevie. I wonder if yours has been used with the slime? Is the orange cap fixed in place over the socket where the gloop bottle would be attached? Mine has never been used with the slime and the orange cap is in place in the slime socket..

Hello,

Today I was following a car in a 30 zone which turned into a 40. When we got to the 40 zone both of us started to go above the limit by about 5mph, at this point the car in front flashed blue lights for about 2 seconds dropped back to 40 so I followed. This has got me thinking it was an unmarked police car so with him flashing for a few seconds but not pulling me over would this mean I am likely to get a fine and points coming my way or was it just a warning do you think?

I was following the car quite closely in the 30 zone but they didn't seem to bother about that it was just when we got to a slight bend they put the foot down on the brakes and flashed the lights for a maximum of 5 seconds

I agree, a timely warning. More about your 'tailgating' than speeding I would say. Terrible, but all too common habit. As you enter our village it slows from 40 to 30mph. Which I always do as there are lots of older folk and quite a few young children too. Invariably someone behind does not wish to travel at 30 so they 'tailgate' in an intimidating way. I just slow down to 25 or so. There is no possibilty of overtaking safely so they are stuck. When I get to my left turn they are so close they have stop. The looks I get. Not that I am bothered. But they never seem to get the message that if they stay back the required stopping distance, when I turn left they would not even have to slow down at all, just simply drive on sedately. Simples. Over the last month or so I've noticed that the two front seats of my mondeo are getting creaky. Going over a rough stretch of road, it is very noticible. It might have been there from new but I don't think so.

Any ideas why that might be or what might be done to silence them? Read more

Yes, still under warranty until March 2017.

I'll have a word with the dealer when next I'm passing and see what they might say.

Video linked below!

So the Mrs was driving the car to work the other day, as I had the luxury of working from home. she came home to tell a delightful story of how "an idiot was haring it up a road, causing her to veer and hit the Curb" (at fair speed).

Since then, I have noticed a clicking noise, it seems to come when steering, pulling away and braking, (either straight or turning) until a certain speed, but I'm fairly sure at that point I just can't hear it anymore.

When the car is stationary, it makes no sound unless I turn the steering wheel. I have attached a youtube vid of the noise.

https://youtu.be/5LDKgrplNqw clicking noises are at 3/4 seconds 8/9 seconds and 15 seconds.

What do you reckon this is? Driveshaft? CV joint? And any rough ideas on what I should be paying to get this fixed?

Cheers in advance for help!

Cambelt snapped in the middle of the road, almost leading to fatal accident.Needs complete new engine costing £5000+

Car is 5 years old,38,000 miles on the clock. Renault's expected lifespan for Laguna cambelt is 6 years/ 96,000 miles. They are now insisting I pay 40% of the cost. 2 problems: 1) I don't have £2000 2) I don't see why I am liable. That car's been serviced every year at the Renault dealer where it was bought, the latest just 3000 miles ago. If I was told cambelt should be changed, I would have had it done. Any advice welcome. I wouldn't want to have to pay more than the cost of a timing belt and waterpump change but, having said that it probably would be a grand at a main dealer.

So I think (after some really good help from people on here) I have decided on my next car. My budget is around 6-8k (most likely the higher end) and I'm looking at around 4-6 year old Golf with as little miles as possible (around 40-60 problably) and with decent trim (preferably match). I'm looking for any advice on what to really look out for or any other indicitation of what is likely to be a good buy.

I think, although I'm no expert on VWs your budget of 8K or a bit more might put you into a 7th generation Golf, if you look hard enough? Which has a belt drive 1.4 and appears a much stronger engine and fine car all round. The MK6 Tsi will be cheaper but does have the chain drive and there's enough noise on the internet forums to conclude it's a weakish aspect. Again, a complete service history is essential.

Don't forget, you can buy the same car exactly in Seat Leon guise, at far better value. Don't get hung up on the badge, VAG are experts at badge engineering !...

Good for misc. clag. and esp the Dogs, but, what are the particular downsides, for someone who generally treats a car more like a Van.

Biggest concern would be good supportive seats and a decent driving position.... Read more

I have noted the very positive reviews re the 1.2 Peugeot puretech petrol engine, and a neighbour across the lane runs a Doblo MPV, but wee= run a car/van for 10 or 12+ years as opposed to 3 or 4....

again thanks for your replies!

I see very little negative feedback regarding the Ceed/Rio and i30/i20 (although the Kias seem more plentiful and slightly cheaper on the second hand market)...
