Can anyone help please?
My wifes Ford Focus had a flat battery the other day and we cannot find the radio code - the serial number is M375555...... Read more
I've got an annoying leak from the oil seal on the gear selector shaft where it enters the gearbox. I'm a competent home mechanic but don't normally get involved in taking gear boxes apart. Replaced many a drive shaft seal before but this one has flagged 'caution' in that to replace the seal the gear selector housing has to come off and the seal removed/replaced from the inside....poor design or what!
I'm jittery about lifting the selector housing from the gear box because I cannot find any reference guides anywhere on how to do this. My biggest concern is that there will be 'bits' drop out as I lift the housing off and I will not have a clue where they go on re assembly. Also I have no torque settings for re tightening the bolts onto a a new gasket but I guess I can take a reading before undoing the originals.... Read more
As this is a Fiat engine and gearbox,it may be an idea to join the fiat 500 forum.Lots of info here.
I bought a 2012 62 Volkswagen Passat 1.6 TDI S Bluemotion from Car Giant back in September 2015. Seemed a very good deal at the time and i even went a 1 year warranty with the AA through Car Giant for what they assured me was able to cover everything (a few lies put in there).
Within the first month the car had its clutch, flywheel and master cylinder etc. Replaced due to being too heavy, also the windscreen was replaced as it has split from the edge. This was all replaced through Car Giant with no problem plus I was given a courtesy car for a week with excellent customer service... Read more
I agree with several posts here that Cargiant have been very good. The AA are obviously going for the cheapest fitting price, which is fair enough. As long as the fitter is experienced and careful this job should be routine. We all know the only real saving on service costs are the labour rates charged by dealers as opposed to indies. I would however insist that the water pump replacement and other parts are genuine VAG and not genegric. The water pump should have a metal impeller not a plastic one. Halfords would normally give a warranty on their work so you are covered there. Happy days. Cheers Concrete
Hi people, As a consequence of removing the section of dashboard which houses the radio/CD player and heating controls, I've disconnected the 'heat distribution' controller and I don't how to 'reconnect' it. Can anyone help? Your help will be MUCH appreciated! Read more
The plastic drum and cable unit clips in to the back of the controls, but you need to get the alignment correct. There should be a detent in the plastic to help you.Perhaps the cables have come off at the heater end?.Same arrangement, just clips in once aligned.
Your response has reassured me that it's actually capable of being reconnected (and without the use of a special tool?). Thanks to your response, i'll try again but with a newfound confidence. Thank you!
My Fabia had a starting problem today - the engine started as normal and then immediately cut out. Completely dead and no dash lights, but electric windows, indicators etc working. The AA checked fuses etc, all ok. The AA disconnected the battery for a few mins and when it was reconnected the engine started immediately and everything was back to normal. I'm booking the car in to have it checked but I'm concerned that nothing will be found and then the problem recurs. Have you any thoughts about the cause of the problem and how to stop it happening again? Thanks Read more
Did you ever solve the issue or get the problem again as I have had the same problem Today so will remove the battery Tomorrow and hope it starts again..
i have 2 Mio 518 dash cam and have purchased Mio Smartbox which allows you to power the cam whilst parked.
I have had both installed by auto electrician and they are set to be on when parked but they power off when the car is turned off , the smartbox is powering the cam when ignition is off and the cam is set to record when parked ... Read more
Hmmm- Your box that is reputed to be smart seems to be some sort of gratuitous advertising.
Go away please.
Stuck for something to do on a sunny Saturday afternoon, I had a look under the engine of my Ford Focus for oil leaks. I found one or two minor ones which seem like fairly fresh oil, but there's nothing on the floor and the level doesn't appear to have dropped noticeably since the oil was last changed, in February.
If its engine oil rather than gearbox oil, are any of those leak stop fluids that you add to the engine worth trying before I take it to a garage?... Read more
Nothing specific on these, but check the joint/gasket between cylinder head and cam box cover.
Really need to get the boot release fixed as its causing a few arguments with management AKA SWMBO.
Arrived at our hotel to find that the solenoid was operating on the release but it would not release from the catch.... Read more
I have seen a lot of A4s ,but not this particular fault.Could be a latch adjusment or release actuator problem.I think the best option would be to remove the boot lid inner trim and watch the action of the release system to identify what is not working. Also ,is the bootlid too tight a fit on to the boot seal/rubber?
As the cold snap arrives, anyone know if the gritters will have been out? Are they even still keeping the fleet on standby this close to May?

Frost also draws moisture from tarmac and most other materials and freezes on the surface so it works both ways
The roads do need resurfacing rather than repairing as repairs are not done properly and dont last long! ...
