I was in a car park and may have scraped a car by accident. It was pouring rain, i went outside and couldnt see anything. I let the security at the institution know when I realised having noticed scrapes on my car when I got home.
Apparently, they went directly to the police with an independent witness, but did not contact the security at the institution. ... Read more
Sarah, A few years back I was "scraped" by another vehicle on a roundabout and as Rob says photographic proof IS important so get it,
I had a photo of the other driver running back yo his car and the agent who was sent to see me at the scene of the accident afterwards as I resisted the claim for damages for whiplash for 3 in the van took alook at the minor scrape on my car and in his report absolved me of anything....
Hello, 101k miles on 1998 535i, serviced 2 months ago by an independent. He said he'd changed the gear oil as well as a fairly major service to get the car back on the road. He told me that I'd probably find the gear changes in the auto box a bit jerky at first but if it didn't settle then I could take it back to 'get the gear oil topped up'. He was right, it IS jerky, but only really when going round a corner or when the engine is cold. This makes me think it's a gear oil problem, but I've since read about the 'sealed for life' unit. Is topping up the gear oil something for the amateur, like topping up engine oil, or is there more to it? I spoke to a classic car enthusiast the other day, who looked horrified and advised me to get it topped up ASAP to 'save the cones'! Equally, I've spoken with others who are a bit more relaxed about the whole thing. There's now a bit of a 'burning oil' smell from the engine after a run out. What could be wrong?
Thanks... Read more
My colleague was horified when his MB main dealer charged him five hours labour for draining and refilling his auto gearbox.
But maybe it could take this long reading the posts above ? i.e waiting for the oil to settle.

I would try one of the "seal expander" additives. The valve seals are probably worn and that may help. (for a while)

I suspect in most cases they be happy to get the car off the road. Not quite as easy case as Red Diesel.
The bigger issue is if they started testing to see of the DPF worked to a given min. statandard. That would be a killer.
Just purchased privatly. When I first got car i opened tailgate boot by button on tailgate which operated correctly. Next day button would not open boot and had to open by key fob. Then would open by intermittently on button. Read more
CONTINUED. Then would unlock intermittently on button. Seller stated that he never ever used button but used key fob.Now boot unlocks on its own even when driving and parked with alarm off. I have disconnected cables to button, it does not open on its own now.Can open from keyfob. Button looks perfectly ok but would it definitely be defective button/ switch. It is situated at end of brake light lens strip.THANK YOU
Hi, I am looking to purchase either of the used 2015 BMW's above however the GT being a 335D has 15k and the tourer has 9k miles. Both have lots of extras and are M Sport plus. I am trying to weigh up which is the best deal as the GT is £2k more than the tourer? One point being the GT will get a facelift this July 2016 and wondering If I should hold off and get the current GT model a little cheaper after the facelift ?
Any advice / reccomendation would be much appreciated Read more
Thanks Rob I'll follow your guidance. I'm not too bothered re boot size although I think the tourer will be more practical and value for money...
