Hi. My five year old 1.2 VW polo, 50K approx fully serviced by VW has suffered a serious problem resulting in the timing position moving. I have been told a new engine is required and no guarantee other parts are not damaged. VW is not interested as car is out of warranty even though they have looked after the car since i purchased it new. Unbelievably this damaged happened when the car was stationary/at start up. How can I take this forward as VW are blocking and saying I need to speak with the retailer. Thanks. Read more
Hi all,
In the lookout for a diesel motor under £2000 that will last me a few years. I know this A3 has quite a few miles on it, but it looks clean and has a long MOT. If it was regularly serviced and looked after this could be a decent purchase, what do you think?... Read more
If this vehicle has a long MOT-then I would expect to find it on the official M.O.T. history website-which it ain't.

The Tcs is traction control system.Nothing to do with brake pads.Needs checking with diagnostic kit.
Need to know if anyone has a fix for a DPF (depollution system fault).
So far this has blown my turbo which I've had replaced and engine cleaned - DPF fault still on.
Also had Fuel cap additive fault - had this checked and fixed, cap was loose
Had DPF checked -not needing cleaned, pressures fine
New DPF sensor fitted the other day and DPF fault and engine management back on.
Not sure what to do next Read more
Has incorrect oil been used in the past, or infrequent oil changes? Its a common issue, the turbo oil feed line gets blocked with oil starvation to the turbo.
Have you had a Lexia / Peugeot Planet check? This equipment tells you far more than most diagnostic readers, which can miss important things. It can also manually operate the additive tank to check its working....
Advice plse!-At Npower's request last week- I submitted accurate meter readings on my direct debit dual fuel account-which at the time(28/1) was £389 in credit.
My usage-as recorded by the meter reading(29/1) this last winter quarter was slightly lower than estimated. Only slightly.... Read more
I'm with Npower and do my own meter reading on a monthly basis. Works very well for me.
On a similar note, I have just got a refund from EON who I left 5 years ago but, they did pay me interest on the refund.
I know my way around cars, but diesels are not my forte, could anyone give me a pointer as to the possible cause of this set of symptoms on my sons motor? Local garage have read his codes and say that an injector is down and he requires a new set at £1200 plus...

While I agree with the last post diagnostics action as its a common VW/Audi issue.
Hi
I'm planning to go for a Crossover (CUV) vehicle in the range of £15K due to the fact that my parents are moving in with me. My requirements in the priority order:- (Budget: Max £15K, Diesel, Manual gearbox)
- 1. Comfortable ride and spacious, especially the rear passenger seats (have to accommodate my 6 year old son and my parents)
- 2. Low running costs as I'll be doing around 20K miles per annum (Mostly motorway miles)
- 3. Technology kit (Bluetooth phone & music streaming, Parking sensors are a minimum). Not so keen on the SatNav as I'll be using my 6 inch Tomtom or my Google Maps in my 6-inch phone.
- 1. Mazda CX5 (2.2 Diesel with 148 BHP)
- 2. Audi Q3 (2.0 Diesel with 148BHP)
- 3. Hyundai ix35 (1.7 engine might be under powered for my daily driving)
- 4. Kia Sportage (1.7 engine might be under powered for my daily driving)
- 5. Nissan Qashqai / Renault Kadjar (1.5 engine might be under powered for my daily driving and the rear passenger space is very crammed)
Diesel seem a great idea for people who do a lot of miles and even on car tax, but somehow feel the autorities will crack down on diesel in city centres.
Hi
Understanding the 'dry clutch' DSG issue's that I've read over a handful of websites, my 1.4 TSI GT golf (52k) has been advised to have a new clutch pack, timing chain and adjuster replaced.
I've been advised that my 'used VW warranty' is not covered for these repairs and can cost up to £1.2k to fix @ the main dealers.
Has anyone been succesful in having warranty paying out?
Any advise would be helpful.
Many thanks. Read more
It's a VW . Does anyone expect engineering or marketing integrity fro a company notorious by lying?

@skidpad Agree. You would not expect the head to go day one and therefore it was a fault tht existed at the time of purchase. Almost curtainly not a viable repair
Ok after many hours of searching, my criteria is/was:
5 door Hatchback
Maxmium £30 annual tax
Insurance group 12 and under
Luggage space with seats up above 288 litres
Age no older than 2011, will consider 2010(as budget is £5000)... Read more
At that low mileage, a bigger engined car might be better value - remember that depreciation is by far the biggest part of car ownership, followed by fuel costs - VED is a minor part of it.

Is this a timing chain or belt engine ?
If timing chain, then you should be in a very good position for 'goodwill' from VW GB, as they have recognised a lot of problems due to quality issues. ...
