Do you think that a 206 point check AA comprehensive vehicle inspection would detect any performance issues with a car related to the engine, exhaust, clutch or gearbox?

Rob - the question wasn't about oil levels so there was no need for your rude comment. If you don't like someone's post and haven't anything constructive to say about it, it's really quite easy just not to post anything at all on the thread.
I think Robs answer is perfectly reasonable. The OP has asked the question about oil level several times, (again yesterday) and is either too bone idle to read the replies, too stupid to understand them or is an internet troll trying to get the exact reation his repeat postings have created....
I am disappointed by the road noise generated by the originally fitted Michelin Primacy HP tyres which are now due for replacement.
I am hoping for a recommendation of new tyres which will generate less noise and therefore give a quieter cabin. Read more
I have found Michelin energy-saver tyres to be quiet - much quieter than what I had before (Firestone?) on my Focus II 2005.
Hi everybody, i may be in the market for a replacement for my trusty old Passat TDI PD and have been looking at something smaller, namely BMW 1 series 116i/118i (beauty is in the eye of the beholder). Not really interested in diesel versions due to the well documented problems with that engine and my probably too short commute of 18 miles each way. Basically this engine was quite problematic in earlier Mini's but from 2011- was 'improved' in regards to PCV system and timing chain. Looking around there does not appear to be many reports of problems with newer engine or are they all with to few miles on them for the problems to show. Read more
Thankyou for your reply, certainly food for thought. The 1.6 engine in BMW's is turbo only and timing chain issues are what concern me. Carbonisation could possibly be much reduced with the fitment of an oil catch can? More concerned as to the reliability of the updated engine as there seems to be very little reported problems on the various forums as opposed to previous iteration of this engine on the Mini and Peugeot/Citroen forums.
1. In your opinion, how many millimetres (mm) above the maximum mark on the dipstick of a Ford Focus 1.6 ti vct (petrol) engine would the engine oil have to be to cause frothing of the oil by the spinning crankshaft and also a noticeable affect on engine performance especially on hills? How many millilitres (ml) of oil over would it be? 2. I spoke to a Ford technician and he said that to cause frothing the oil would have to be a few inches over maximum. Can any mechanics answer please? Read more
Oh no,not again???!!!!
I'm sure all those who have ever taught would agree that even questions from the most stupid/attention-seeking person in the class should be addressed. Sometimes they turn out to be QI!...
I have an idel issue with my 156, It drives totally fine but when you come to a stop the revs idle at 1500rpm for 5 to 6 secs before dropping to 900rpm and ticking over nicely. I have chaged the MAF sensor, the air intake pipes and cleaned out the throttle body but still no luck, Has anyone had the same issue and if so how was it resolved Read more

Have you thought of telephoning your nearest Ford dealer's showroom?
What is missing on these lists is a comparison with the truly most efficient vehicles on the road now, i.e. BEVs (battery electric vehicles), e.g. the Hyundai Ioniq Electric for which Wikipedia states:
"Under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) four cycle test, the 2017 Ioniq Electric combined fuel economy rating is 136 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (mpg-e) (1.7 L/100 km), with an energy consumption of 25 kW·h/100 mi (15.7 kW·h/100 km). The fuel economy rating for city is 150 mpg-e (1.6 L/100 km) and 122 mpg-e (1.9 L/100 km) in highway.[15]
With these ratings, the Ioniq Electric became in November 2016 the most efficient EPA-certified vehicle considering all fuels and of all years, surpassing the 2014–2016 model year BMW i3, and also the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime, the most energy efficient plug in hybrid in EV mode."
Bearing in mind that these are US Gallons, the UK Imperial gallons mpg equivalents would be roughly:
Combined 163mpg
City 180mpg
Highway 146mpg

I live in a terrace house - how do I charge overnight?
Fortunately. most of the time there's a parking space outside my house, so I suppose it MIGHT be possible to rig up some kind of swing-out arm with an electric cable at bedroom level, rather like the old Formula One pits refuelling set-up.
Probably contravene some local council law though.
And many many people's dwellings / overnight parking spots are even less faciliative than mine.
And every second week I need to do a 360 mile round-trip in one day. Sometimes, without prior knowledge, it can be 400 miles.
Can an Ioniq Electric do that?

Hi, I've had my C Max for a year without any problems. Today after pulling away the car was unable to proceed through the gears and was stuck in 1 limiting my speed top around 15mph and error message came on the dash "Transmission Malfunction" I went in to manual and was able to change up and down the gears but not perfectly it was a bit stop and start. When in a safe place i pulled over and turned the engine off and back on again and the problem was gone. I drove back home without any problems.
One thing I did notice and not sure if its normal is that when in reversing instead of the R being shown it flashes P. unsure if that is related in anyway.... Read more

It's not uncommon for "manufacturer's approved" cars to be held in a central pool and released as required - typically "management" and ex-hire cars.
Provided the deposit is clearly subject to your inspection of the car, I'd not be concerned about that side of it....
