I see on today's Technical section no less than seven requests for Ford Radio codes (mostly Fiestas), why is it so common for Ford owners to need these?

Having reted a car at Stanted 5 Oct 2015 I crossed the Dartford bridge at 1800 unaware of the new toll procedure. The rental company has emailed me to-day advisng they have taken £105 from my UK bank a/c to pay the charge.
I have spoken with Dart Charge to day who advise me that the rental company paid the sum of £2:50, to Dart Charge in settlement and have charged me £102:50 for their trouble.... Read more
I drive over the crossing and have set up an account, costs less, but if i have friends who will use it i can add and delete them from the account.
No sympathy here though. ...
I know that our motorway system is almost a breaking point, and it already unnerves me when I pass (VERY carefully) a Learner on the A12.

The only troouble with learning to drive on a motorway is: You ned to be near a motorway! My mate lives 375 miles from the nearest motorway (The M9) and needs a 12 hour ferry ride to get within 100 miles of it!
And someone else I know lives a mere 35 miles (as the crow flies) from a motorway but by road it's 165 miles!...

HJ's latest Newsletter compares the cost of buying a sample of new cars with either petrol or diesel. He doesn't give his calculations but I suspect they are flawed. Why? Well because he bases his argument only on how long it takes to recover the extra cost of a diesel engine but he ignores the fact that, after 3 years, the diesel engined car will be worth more than the petrol version. So, the calculations need to take into account the overall cost of ownership and assume you sell the car at the end of the period. This should make the diesel more attractive. HJ's method seems OK if you intend running the car into the ground but most people don't do that with a new car. Am I right or have I missed something in the logic?! Read more
See, this is what I really like here. A sensible debate, well constructed arguments, people always willing to take on board other points of view.
Johnfrog, my apologies for missing out accountants earlier !...

I had a new k****** fitted to my dormobile recently, however I found that the water tank had been overfilled by 10mm.The performance of the van is now down and fuel consumption has been affected. Also when I go round a corner or over a speed hump,I can hear the cupboards creaking.Do you think the chassis has been damaged by fitting longer screws.Another thing, when I move the passenger seat forward, there is a big box of electrical wires with markings for pump, shower, fridge and battery charge.Do I need all these or can I remove it all to make the van lighter?Lastly, when I go away,do I need to take the locking wheel nut key with me ,as I usually keep it in the cutlery draw at home, for security .Merry xmas everyone using this forum!
Having trouble with a 206 1.4 hdi 2005, runs ok for a few minutes or more and then I loose heater blowers, rev counter, rear heater, coolant temp guage.
I have checked the engine fuse box and even swaped it for a known good unit. On this box is the heater blower fuse and relay and when the fault is occurring I have a power to the relay but do not have an earth! I am guessing that it's either the engine running signal or something after that but I can not find out where the system gets its signal from for engine running to power all these components up and where it goes after.... I can see exactly where you coming from with this.I suspect that the engine run signal is networked to the cabin bsi ,possibly via the can system.( or van in the case of Peugeot ).also the electric system will go into economy mode if the engine is not run and some functions will not operate eg Windows. If this function works ,then perhaps the engine run signal is being processed.Perhaps there is a wiring fault between the engine bay and cabin electrics. An accurate wiring diagram may be helpful but difficult to get.
Excellent thanks, that's sher I'm at now, I've got a couple off diagrams but as you say an accurate one I cannot find! I am learning a lot on this job and yes I've got to the point that it's either the CAN or the ECU because I have a PD003 can communication fault, no communication on the engine ecu and a P0500 Vehicle speed signal Incorrect signal fault.
I have checked the live data and the engine ecu states 12 mph and also states the brake pedal is pressed when not!...
Noticed recently on the M4 J24 (Coldra) Westbound, that there are black pods like Hair dryers over looking each of the 3 lane from the gantry. Currently there are no camera's on this gantry as we know them, but gantry before has large grey boxed cameras.
But heard rumours of this stretch East and West bound are to become 'Average Speed coverage) as in Port Talbot area.... Read more
For radios whose Serial Number begins with a "V", followed by a six digit number, I'm afraid there is no Keycode generator available for you to work out the code.
You will either need to visit your local Ford Main Dealer, or there are sellers on Ebay who claim they can supply the Keycodes for "V" Serial Numbers, for a fee.
