Hi,

I have a 2012 Skoda Octavia 1.4TSI 122, approx 30,000 miles, full Skoda service history and mid-service oil changes since 15,000 miles. The water pump has started to whistle a bit and, on taking it to the local Skoda main dealer, they said it needed replacing and, on my asking, offered 100% goodwill to fix it. I was pleased with that response, given that it's out of warranty. Anyway, given what I've read about timing chain problems with the 1.4 TSI range, and although it looks to be more of an issue with the higher power variants than the 122, would it be worth asking the dealer to replace the timing chain while they have it apart to replace the water pump? Or maybe I'm being a bit over-cautious...... Read more

okay i bought car in feb 2015 and since i got it has never felt right... it only had 17k on it and is a 2011 plater and salesman never mention if it had been in any kind of accident... so i can't answer 100% if it had any kind of knock but we checked door panels and went round car to see if there was any sign of damage or repair.

Get a tape measure and check the distance between the front and rear wheels. Measure from the front of the rear tyre to the front of the back tyre, at the centre line of the wheel. Compare the LH side with the RH side, I reckon the LH side distance will be shorter. It sounds to me as if you have had a thump on the LH that has pushed the suspension rearwards, alignment measures camber, castor and track but will not necessarily pick up a bent lower suspension arm, especially if the tracking has been adjusted to correct the problem. Similar happened on a family fiesta some years ago. I also experienced a similar fault on s Chrysler Avenger belonging to my son, a tie rod that held the McPherson strut in position was loose, car drove straight until you braked, strut then moved backwards and car shot to the left.. You have a different suspension I believe, so the latter cause will not be relevant .

That makes sense- the cure for an old Mini pulling to the left or right was to strip out the tie-rod from the bottom arm to the front of the sub-frame on the side it ws pulling to, remove the rear rubber bush, cut it in half , and re-install it in front of the anchor point onthe sub-frame, together with the original front bush, giving one and a half bushes at the front of the anchor point and half a bush behind, so that the bottom arm was pulled forward, increasing the steering camber angle slightly.

My old 1.6 Zetec SE (100bph) Ford Focus 53 (2003) did 2500rpm at 60mph. My current 62 (2012) Ford Focus 1.6 (105bph) ti-vct engine does 2750rpm at 60mph. Why the difference given they are both 1.6 petrol engines?

How far above the maximum mark on the dipstick would the oil level have to be to cause PCV valve clogging etc and what signs would the driver notice? Thanks for answers. Read more

This poster reminds me of one we had a while back who obsessed about all kinds of things, such as " will it damage suspension if I run over a fallen conker?".

We never found out if his questions were genuine or a wind-up.

Hi Folks

I have a charming old Ford Mondeo Estate, 1.8L and 2003 reg. When driving to work this morning, I noticed a shudder everytime I put my foot down to accelerate (fairly hard but not overly hard). Once I then reach a cruising speed (any speed from 0mph), it seems to run smooth. If I gently acceleerate, there doesn't appear much shuddering at all. ... Read more

Hello I have just bought a ford fiesta 1998 and I am very happy with it but I discovered under the boney just under the battery on top of the small part of the gear box I can see three bolt holes where I believe the top of the gearbox mounts to the engine bay and where these three holes are there are two studs with nuts on them but the other stud and bolt is missing and the last owner believed it wud be a great idea to stick a sharpie felt pen in the hole which I removed basically I would like someone to tell me what these studs are and if I can replace them these studs point vertical a little under the battery coming off the gearbox case. Any help would be appreciated thank you Read more

Hello

Having an issue with my 04 fiesta 1.4l

Tried to start for work one morning and car will not idle, car will start and engine will run only if I hold down the accelerator, as soon as I release car stalls. If engine is revved enough to warm car will run 100% fine, but once cooled down same issue returns.

No fault codes showing. Instrument cluster has been checked, fuel pump and sensor checked, spark plugs and ignition leads replaced, had a split in the crankcase breathing tube which has been replaced.

All signs pointed to throttle body, was cleaned out and still did not work, then was temporarily replaced with working throttle body from identical car which still did not sort the problem.

When the engine starts cold the throttle moves to the closed position so I am coming to the conclusion this could be a throttle sensor issue unless anyone can suggest anything?

Spoke to ford, they can look Monday but want £94 an hour just to look at it before any work is done but want to exhaust all options first Read more

Get the battery tested, properly. Also suggest get the engine coolant temp sensor tested.it could be working out of tolerance, but not flag a fault code.
