I am in my late forties and have been with the same insurance broker since the early 90's, never made a claim (max NCB they give is 9 years), clean license.

I drive a 2003 Ford focus with under 70000 miles on the clock.... Read more

Well such is the way of things that you can't really argue with their logic. Points on a licence they dont have and fines they can't pay are insignificant compared to the vast cost of gaining licences, paying for insurance - particularly in some of the northern cities - and running a car in a safe legal manner. If they did do it they'd be the only one and the next scrote would nick the car. It's a vicious cycle which shows no sign of stopping.

You may remember some time ago I posted asking about SUVs as I was going to buy one once we sell my late parents' house. While discussing it with my wife she suggested "why don't you buy something sporty instead?" - so now that's what I'm looking at for my midlife crisis at 26! I still want 4 seats so I can at least take the dog with me and therefore use the car for weekends away with my wife and aforementioned mutt. We'll keep our Honda Civic so the wife has a car and so that we have something more practical if needed.

I test drove an Audi TT and pretty much fell in love with it - the only issues being that the rear seats are even less practical than I thought and there's a hell of a lot of options to get the car where I want it. I tried a BMW 2 series as well and was underwhelmed, especially at the dealer who seemed to really not care if I bought a car or not. Decision made, I thought. Until I got a 1 series as a rental car (was meant to have a Golf but got uppgraded) and had an absolute scream driving it round some curvy bits outside Salisbury at 1am. So now I'm confused again.... Thanks all. Must admit I hadn't really thought about hatches because I was hoping to get something a bit sleeker like a coupe but I'll look into it. The dog has a seatbelt harness and he's really the only thing I'd need the extra seats for - if I need to carry people I've got the Civic still. Will have a think.

My wife's not impressed by me umming and aahing because she bought me a remote control TT for Christmas...

Hi all

I am a little curious. My present vehicle was supplied from new with Hankook tyres fitted . It is a company lease and will be two years old next March. I have just had the original two front tyres replaced at 54,000 miles, which seems really good.

The car is front wheel drive the same as my past few cars, also leased . However these all needed new tyres at around 30,000 miles. I haven't changed my driving style and wanted to try and find out how these have lasted so long. Anyone with any ideas ?

When they were replaced, the leasing company authorised another well know brand to be fitted.

I have no association with The Hankook brand. Read more

Roomster 1.9TDi Scout 205/45x16: 2 front sets of Michelins both lasted 22k to 3mm, Hankook Evo (1) lasted 30k to 3mm. At that point they were beginning to tramline (like most worn tyres), but seemed to be equal in performance to the Michelins (not that one door-handles a Roomster...).

Hi Guys,

I have a '58 plate Vivaro 2900 2.0 CDTi 115. It's in at Vauxhall for some engine repair work under the Vauxhall "good-will" scheme at the moment. Trouble is, nobody can tell me what model engine I have in this thing.... Read more

For radios whose Serial Number begins with a "V", followed by a six digit number, I'm afraid there is no Keycode generator available for you to work out the code.

You will either need to visit your local Ford Main Dealer, or there are sellers on Ebay who claim they can supply the Keycodes for "V" Serial Numbers, for a fee.
