The car was operating with the soeed limiter engaged when power was lost and car was brought to the side of the road. Ignition was switched off and the car restarted, engine block icon was lighted but car operated ok except that no speed limiter.
The radar controlled cruise control was engaged and the car operated normally, slowing when car ahead was getting too close and then accelerating to the set speed when the road was clear.... Read more
Actually, they arent' too bad. I had one on a Merc S320CDi back in 2004 or so. Bearing in mind that it felt like it was standing still on the Autobahn at 120mph, a limiter was useful. I used to keep the limiter at 78.
It also doesn't mean that you can't go faster than that (or at least that was the case in the Merc). Plant your foot on the accelerator, and it would 'stutter' and go straight past the limiter - basically the cars systems recognised that you wanted ALL the power and speed there and then, and gave it to you.
Hello i hope someone can help. I started getting squealing noise from auxiliary belt. I looked under the bonnet and noticed that belt was not sitting right so i tried to push the belt back on and the air con pump fell under the engine. The hosesare still connected but it looks like the bracket has snapped. Do i have to replace the whole unit orcan the bracket be changed?
Thank you in advance Read more
If the bracket is a detachable type, then yes it can be replaced. However if it is the fixing lugs that have broken off the compressor then it will need to be replaced. Can't see how it could have fallen off unless the bolts have come undone.

In the past there have been threads on this forum regarding dashboard cameras in cars - dashcams
Here is a news report about one impact of such camera... Read more
"what if I'm standing roadside as a tourist and taking a video of say the city town hall, it's not possible to blank out the passing traffic and pedestrians!"
From what I've read (and I've read a lot of forums on the subject ) it's one thing to take pictures or record scenes in a public place and then take the pictures home for the album, but quite another matter to publish what you've recorded or to be overtly recording in public, i.e. from a car windscreen. There have been some pretty stiff laws passed recently in Spain, one of which prohibits recording or photographing uniformed police officers, so there's no way I'd even think about having a dashcam or using it on a motorway in the current climate "just in case"
Evening - Yesterday as I was driving out of my street I heard an almighty bang. It was my back window. The Glass completely shattered. Now, the glass was not hit by someone or something of that I am 100% certin of. Is their any reason the rear glass can do this? Read more
Yes, that could do it. Never put anything over heater elements (note that when dealers put their stickers over heater elements on the rear screen, the warranty from the supplier of that screen is immediately voided).
Just bought a 2.2 D (200PS) which had done 12K, from main dealer.Felt steering vibrations during test drive, and they checked tyre pressures and balancing.Still feel a bit shuddery at 65-75 mph speeds.
What should I do next?... Read more
Thank you all for your thoughts.
The dealer,100 miles away, from whom I purchased, will liaise with my local Jag dealer to check it again....

Hi and thanks for your thoughts. The sliding pins are new as are the discs, caliper said and pads. It is booked in tomorrow to have the brake fluid changed, suggested by my local Honda main dealer. I will post what the result and thanks very much again.
Hi there
I'm new here so forgive me if you've already answered this one. I'm looking for a car and as usual checked the reg no on the DVLA site to chech the details of MOT etc. Now under tax status it can say 'taxed' or SORN, both of which make sense. However on a couple of cars it states 'tax expired' with a date. These are maybe a month or two old which I suppose is understandable, but one car I looked at has an expired date of 10 months ago. Does this mean the car's been off the road for that long - and should I be concerned by that? I'm just looking for a normal car, not a classic or anything like that.... Read more
As soon as a car is traded into a dealer the tax will expire and a refund will be sent to the previous owner
Whilst in the dealer network the car doesn't have to be taxed but if driven must be taken out on trade plates...

Sounds air locked,
try reving it to a couple thou RPM for a few mins' with the heater valve open/hot,...
If you are taking it to a Chevrolet dealer and they say your steering fault is the first they have seen, they are lying. Everything from changing tyres, 4-wheel alignment, replacing brakes and suspension have been attempted without a definitive answer. Personally I think it stems from its pretty basic, older design and is classic torque steer that can be minimised, but isn't going away.
That however is your minor issue. You need the coolant system properly pressure tested before it lets you down in the middle of nowhere.
