Okay, here's the scenario: you need some classic winter transport, you've got a couple of grand to spend and you want to make sure you don't get stuck in a snow drift. My money would be on the Lada Niva.
I've owned a couple. They were slow, basic, noisy, unrefined and really not pleasant to drive. But they were reliable, brilliant in even the deepest snow, and as good off-road as anything from Solihull.... Read more
Mercedes G wagon for off road ability. Diff locks as standard on centre and rear differentials make it superior to a Land Rover when fitted with decent tyres.
Everyone's got at least one car they regret selling. What's yours?
Mine was the 1986 Lancia Y10 Touring that I bought brand new, kept for 20 years and drove 40-odd thousand miles in. Really wish I'd not been so daft. It was a great little car, despite what the motoring press of the time said... Read more
Ford Capri, 2.8i Special with limited slip diff and half leather reacro seats. It had a capri club exhaust which sounded lovely and was the most entertaining and engaging car I've ever driven. The brakes were useless and the handling in the wet was hilarious.
They were also pretty swift, considering they only had 170bhp. Quite a light car and, as you say, they sounded lovely
Hi All apologies if this has already been answered but...i recently brought a 65 plate Golf TDI Bluemotion. It's 4 weeks old and last week it died on me. No warnings, no spluttering nothing. I tried to start the engine again but it continued to turn over (even when i let go of the key) but wouldn't catch.
Called the roadside assisitance, who ran a diagnosic check and said the issue was fuel pressure? I got towed to the dealership where i purchased the car and they have said the main fuel pump is broken which has affected the leads and sensors?? Anyway they are saying this can be caused by a misfuel, putting unleaded into a diesel.... Read more
roughly 1100 miles. my round trip to work is 104 miles a day.
hi all
my audi developed a problem after changing fuel filter i noticed that diesel is leaking through return valve , the engine is quite dirty on this side so it must start a while ago , i changed the filter and valve, checked if hosses are no blocked, fuel seems to gather pressure in the filter , would it be fuel pressure regulator ? if yes where it is lockated ? is it integrated in tandem pump? cheers Read more
Ahhh ... you 'assumed' that the previous one you fitted 'might' be faulty.
Can I suggest you get a professional to look at it ?
I am aware that Police have power to seize your vehicle if driving other than under the conditions of your Licence and/or no Insurance under Road Traffic Act 1988.
I am also aware that DVLA have power to clamp/seize an untaxed vehicle but was nor aware this power also rested with the Police. Seems I am ignorant if this is to be believed:... Read more
Done some digging got nothing as concrete as S165(a) RTA 88 which specifically gives the power to uplift in DL and Insurance offences.
Nearest I can come up with is The Vehicle and Resistration Act 1997 Schedule 2 which allows an authorised officer to clamp or remove to elswhere an untaxed/unsorned vehicle on a public road or certian other public places. Sect 12(2)(b) of Schedule states Poloice Officer can be authorised....
xxxx gave us an option to a van in writing. Which we decided to accept and we paid them the £660 Deposit. We were told delivery would be within 14 working days.
After a large number of attempts to get the rest of the relevant paperwork to fill in, the 14 day delivery time came and passed. Once again we were told it would be another 14 days. Two days before the 14 day deadline the paperwork arrived with a totally different price and terms. This meant the initial contract could not be honoured by them.... Read more
Hard to comment with so little information. I suspect you can backout if the t&c change and the van does not arrive as arranged.
Living in Scotland I always fit winter tyres to my cars. I have recently purchased a new wheel / winter tyre package from WWW.Mytyres.co.uk. for a new car. Not being a wheel expert I chose the wheels very carefully from the mytyres website specifically for my Audi Q3. Apart from the wheels taking several weeks to be despatched, they had not been balanced correctly and worst of all had not been supplied with spacers (spigots) to take up the difference in size between the centre of the alloy wheel and the car's hub. This meant that the 5 x wheel bolts were taking excessive load, the wheels vibrated and the wheel arrangement would have been dangerous at motorway speeds. The solution was to have some inexpensive spigots produced for £30. Has anyone also had a similar experience? Is it possible to put pressure on Mytyres to supply new wheel/tyre packages that have been correctly balanced and that must be supplied with all safety essential components? Read more
As TPMS batteries only last 5 years, I fell sure that many others will be looking to sidestep the legalities when their time comes.
That is until their cars fail the MOT when they don't have a working TPMS.
Son in law just rang me, really hard to find reverse, on his 05 ref diesel manual Jaguar X type.
would be grateful for any ideas please! Read more
Will it go into gear with the engine off? If so its a clutch problem.
Hi,
Duaghter has the above car which is the basic model. It doesn't have a USB port connector like the higher spec's have and she's asked if a kit is available to convert it. I have asked the local Kia garage but he looked confused and asked for the reg number - which wouldn't help has as the car has not got one! Anyway they are going to 'look into it' and call me in a few days. Not confident of the outcome....... Read more
Thanks guys for all your advice. Daughter has now decided that a 'Parrot' is what she needs for her music and phone. It's all ordered and will arrive shortly. It does have the added advantage of 'what to buy her for xmas' and that's now solved and I won't have to trudge around a miriad of shops looking for it!!
Much appreciated...
I have read it, several times. I even provided a link which explains in simple terms how it lends itself to the new and used car market...... I will provide it again.
