Morning I really like the Vauxhall insignia but up in till now it's not a taxi I would have considerd due to the utterly unreliable 2L diesel.
Is the 1.6 likely to be more reliable?... Read more
Hi,
my partners employers who are government owned have recently changed their policy from 45p a mile to 30p a mile.... Read more
Well when I go on business trips there are always 1 or 2 work colleagues, these are "paid/reimbursed" at 5p a mile. I can in effect get £0,55 a mile.
I definitely made a profit in my old Mondeo (08 plate 200k mileage) there was very negligible mileage depreciation. Only fuel, tyres, servicing (did myself)....
I purchased a Golf last Sunday that is 10 months old with 500 miles on the clock. I inquired with the dealer (not a VW dealer) when I was collecting it, as to whether the service was due at 1 year. They said that they contacted VW who said it was on a long life 20K service so it would not need a service.
I am suspicious that the dealer has simply reset the service interval counter back to the start as I had previously mentioned on the phone that I would like it serviced before purchasing. I find it highly unlikely that the previous owner (disabled) would buy a brand new car and knowing they do a low mileage would ask for it to be set on a long life.... Read more
Was the car on the mobility scheme if the previous owner was disabled?Normally on the scheme the cars are kept for 3yrs with servicing included. Owner would not get the option to choose service plan.
Seems odd then car is only 10months old!...
Hello,
I hope someone can help me. My partner bought a Ford C Max one month ago and today it started making a weird clattering noise shortly after I started it up, it is mainly when accellerating. It worried me so much I drove back home with my heart in my mouth. ... Read more
If i was you i would get a smart phone out and record the car when idling from cold, then record when warmed up and then record when pressing the gas from stationery. That way more people can give you a meaningful advise. To me it sounds like your fuel filter is blocked, hence the surge you get from 1st to second fuel starvation. If its DMF surely the clattering will be all the time. Next time try smelling your fume and see if it smells like really dense sweet smelling. I have the same engine on my car and had similiar symtons to yours. Upload your video here or send a link from youtube. Check my video out and see if its the same noise www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmPr35H4Aik
Hi all,
I want to buy a car but there is a little problem. The owner of the car,the guy whose name is on V5C document, lives outside UK.He left the car here and told a friend of him to sell the car.
Is there any way to verify the deal since there is no authorisation from the owner written down?
I am confident about the seller as I've been to his house and met his family but i want to be 100% sure that I wont have any problems in the future.
Please help this is my first buy here in UK. Read more
In one sense, it doesn't matter who's name is on the V5C - as the document clearly states that it's not proof of ownership.
A friend of swmbo who is very comfortably off leased a Mercedes C class for £400 ish a month and insured it and then let her 18 year old son take it to school one day.
He was involved in a collision and deemed to be at fault, but the insurance company are declining to pay for the damage to the mercedes as she had not taken out the appropriate cover.... Read more
Can you?
There are normally restrictions on age(both minimum & maximum) and on driving history(clean license).Have you read the small print(T & C)?And it is likely your cover would be third party only....
How feasible is refitting a Diesel 2.0L TDI with a petrol engine ? Important because diesels could be banned from town centres because of the Nox. I have read elsewhere that the easiest conversion is with a 2.0 TSI engine. Read more
It's really quite easy. New engine, maybe gearbox, (different ratios), ECY, wiring to dah, wiring to fuses, wiring to safety systems. Then an inspector's report so you can be insured. If you are an electronic genius - easy..
If you cannot afford the elctronic skills of an expert- more than the value of thecar, it makes no sense....
Suspect I have aserious gearbox problem with a 2012 Audi A6 CVT multitonic. Car has under 40k miles but is just out of warranty. Anyone with experience on how to handle this. New gearbox will be mega expensive. Any view on whether this is a common problem? Read more
It MUST have oil changes as per Audi requirments.

Much rather the system on Landcruiser, cambelt drives the cams and thats it, water pump is driven by two auxilliary poly V belts which then drive other components, a third belt drives power steering IIRC without going out in the dark and looking.
