Is the owner entitled in law to see the detailed breakdown of the Interest Rebate calculation ?

I'm planning to settle the PCP on my VW Touareg early and VW Finance's settlement just shows the total of the Interest Rebated, despite my requesting the detail - as the amount is several £100s lower than my calculated amount, I want to reconcile the difference before settling. Read more

When you get to a set of lights which are on red, you can leave the gearbox in Drive and wait there with your foot on the brake, rather than engage Neutral and put the handbrake on. What's happening in the gearbox when you do that and are there any important long-term consequences?... Read more

Some here won't have a clue what a Borgward was? Well, for those that don't know I'll leave it for others more knowledgeable about the marque to fo so.

Still no idea why the brand is being revived, nor indeed why it needs to be.... Read more

Behave like it's on a different planet to the rest of retail?

The Bromp family fleet comprises a brace of Berlingos, my 05 1.9D now on 156k miles and Mrs B’s 2013 1.6/115. Ideally I’d run the older one to 15 yrs 200k miles but it’s had various issues recently of which heavy steering is the latest and I’ve decided to get shot.... Read more

I wouldn't mind an older Berlingo like that in that condition.

Spend 750 ish on the car save the balance for the insurance. Don't forget a first policy could be ruinous if you pick the wrong vehicle. Consider telematics could save you some cash.

I did a bit of work on a 2000 ish Terios a couple of years ago, what a beautifully simple car to work on. But check history and noise from 4wd system.

If I wanted an old tiny 4x4, I would have one of these in an instant.

I'm new on here, and need some advice.

My Mini Cooper is about to enter the great car park in the sky, and I've been looking for a cheap second-hand car. Nine days ago I saw a Ford Maverick, took it for a test-drive, it seemed fine, except for a big crack across the windscreen. I was a bit surprised that it was supposed to have a 12 month MOT on it, as couldn't see how it could have passed with that; but was assured by the salesman that it was about to be put in for an MOT, and would be available once that was sorted by the end of the week. They would ring me on Friday. I paid a deposit, and was intending to pick up my car the following Saturday.... Read more

Hello (i'm new here so go easy),

My girlfriends car is causing us endless headaches (look at the title - its no suprise). She has had the car for a few years and has often had problems with the auto box. For examplem, sometimes it fails to shift down at junctions and stalls the engine. Lately though, we are having lots and lots of issues with electrical systems. Engine failure warnings, airbag check warnings, max temp warnings, power steering failures...... Read more

I would guess it's an earth fault and that has melted the loom ...like when a mini choke cable gets hot when the earth strap fails.

I presume the loom has been checked by the mechanic and taped up where necessary ?....

Hi all,

I'm hoping for some help in figuring out what is wrong with my wifes Nissan Note. It's a 1.6 petrol automatic on a 64 plate that we purchased around 3 months ago at one year old, it has just under 10k on the clock. All was fine with the car and on Sunday evening I popped to the local supermarket filling station and filled the tank for her - she had ran it down so that the fuel light was flashing. On Monday morning the car wouldn't go over 40 mph and eventually died on a roundabout. My wife stated that the accelerator and brake seemed to stop responding. I went to her aid and it started first time and drove with no issues. Tuesday was exactly the same and my wife called the RAC (Nissan breakdown). The guy took it for a drive and stated that the fault didn't occur. He also confirmed that the ECU held no fault codes. I reported this to Nissan and they stated that I would be charged £100 for a diagnostic if it wasn't covered by warranty. Yesterday we switched cars and I put half a bottle of redex into the tank incase the issue was with fuel being ran to the dregs, or quality of the supermarket fuel. I drove the 23 mile journey to work with no issues. The car sat in my works car park for ten hours and started fine when I came to leave at 1am this morning. I got around half a mile down the road when the car started to struggle going uphill on a dual carriageway. I tried to increase the revs but the engine slowly died and the accelerator and brake became unresponsive, leaving me stranded on the dual carriageway. Again there were no engine management lights. I tried to restart the car and found that the brake had no play in it and I could not press it down, the car repeatedly failed to start. I tried the car again after five minutes and it started fine and I drove the return 23 mile journey. Apologies for the long post but does anyone have any idea what is going on? Paul Read more
