Over the last month or so the alarm my A4 Avant has been going off randomly, even to the point that it sometimes won't switch off. It seemed to cure itself, about a month ago.
This morning the car had all its indicators going and a flat battery (18 months old) I'm guessing the alarm was triggered for whatever reason and as its not that noisey we didn't hear it.
Consequently the indicators keep flashing and flatten the battery. I'm guessing damp/condensation has something to do with it. I don't believe its the rear washers leaking into the lock switch, that has been fixed previously.... Read more

Hi, we had this problem. Obviously as suggested above check there is voltage to the motor but on ours the motor was stiff to turn.It would start up with a bit of help but too stiff to start on its own. A used replacement was fitted and problem solved.
My wife and I have been unlucky enough to have become victims of the CFT-23 curse recently having purchased a second hand 2006 C-MAX 1.6TDCi in October of 2014 from an independantdealer. In July of this year the transmission of course failed with a little over 50k on the clock. The car appeared to stall while my wife was driving it and by some miracle she managed to get it home where it was then immobile for several weeks until it decided it wanted to work again and we took the chance to get it to our local Ford dealership where the problem was diagnosed as a transmission control module failure, along with the news of the only solution being a complete transmission replacement at impractical cost. Having read through the wealth of information on the forum and having been given the middle finger by Ford Customer Services we've decided to take a shot at the small claims court. There's no excuse for Ford never having issued a product recall for this problem, in July of 2014 we should not have been able to purchase one of these cars if not for Ford's irresponsible behaviour in their handling of their design error.
If anyone can pass on any information of any sort on this topic we would be most appreciative.... Read more

The pierburg electronic carbs on these were no good when the cars were new.How do Bmw know the carb is at fault and not the electronic control unit?I would go for a Weber conversion fitted by an independent specialist.Better performance and economy. You will need to have a manual choke cable fitted (discreetly),but tbh ,once the throttle pedal is given a few pumps the engine will start and run pretty good without choke initially if the engine tune is set up correctly.
Michael Moore's Stupid White Men was more plausible about the motives behind the George Bush Snr government's wars. But you do wonder if there's any truth behind these claims of higher motives behind recent events. Icke may be loopy, but e.g. he was right about Savile all along!
My small car with a torque convertor auto gearbox needed new front discs and pads a lot sooner than I expected. I've wondered if that's because I use the brakes to slow the car when I'm going downhill, rather than putting the car into a lower gear and using engine braking. I'm reluctant to use the latter because I don't understand the long term consequences for the gearbox of doing it. It's the first automatic car I've owned and would appreciate some advice.... I just looked at the Service and Warranties handbook and it says that the transmission fluid should be replaced every 36 months or 30,00 mile

My son has a 1.2 Ambience, new in June 2015. (I think it's a great car).
I didn't realise it had TPMS (I now understand that this is compulsory - the Luddite in me wonders why we need yet something else to go wrong).... Read more
Thanks for the replies.
OK, mea culpa, this has been sorted, having convinced son to RTFM....
Alas! Back again, again this morning, indicators flashing/flat battery, no central locking.
I have now noticed that when the rear o/s door when open does not activate the internal light or show on the dash as being open. Clutching at straws here, but could this be the problem? My thinking though is that if the microswitch is 'open' when the door is shut/locked only when the switch closes the alarm would go off, hence if the switch is permanently open the alarm won't be activated?
It could be that the switch is faulty and randomly closing thus activating the alarm, if so would cutting one of the wires be a problem? Is the switch open or closed to activate the alarm?
Thanks!
