With reference to my previous post. I currently have a Skoda Superb 1.9Tdi 130 PD diesel. It is nearly ten years old, mine from new and has about 200K miles on the clock. Full service and repair history. Original clutch, exhaust etc. Friends advise me to fit a towbar to it and use it to get used to towing a caravan in a vehicle I know well. Given the age of the car I was reluctant to put the added strain of towing onto it, but I was going to virtually give it away anyway, so nothing to lose really. Any thoughts from experienced caravan towers will be welcome.

vob, I will take that as a compliment.
Indeed I do "pride" myself of the correct and sympathetic use of a clutch, something drilled into me by my father, a farmer who tinkered at the tractors when needed, BUT never needed to fit a clutch, despite one tractor ALWAYS doing loader work, he bought tractors new and kept them working for 20 or 30 or 40 years....
Hello All, I think this has come up previously but here goes......
I have been getting quotes for various vehicles, with a view to purchase in January 2016. I decided to buy a new vehicle in readiness for towing a caravan(also to buy in Jan 2016). Some brokers have come up with very good prices, other not so good. By that I mean sometimes over a 1K difference between them for identical cars. Drivethedeal seems to be consistently quite good, but others here have mentioned other websites or brokers they have used.... Read more
Thanks again to everyone. I have tried some of the other sites mentioned and am pleasantly surprised by some of the quotes coming back.
Very helpful chaps....
In May, following a major loss of power, my Ford dealer diagnosed low fuel pressure & replaced the fuel filter. The problem occurred again in July & they replaced the turbo. This week the engine malfunction warning light appeared with another reduction in power. Now the dealer says I need a new DPF & sensor. Might the DPF/sensor have been the problem all along & I didn't need a new turbo? Is this the type of problem that's difficult to accurately diagnose, or could all these different parts have become separately faulty in a short space of time, or might the garage not be doing a very good job? Once this problem occurs in this model is it likely to keep recurring, or is it fixable? Mileage 100,000. Read more
That model uses EOLYS to help regenerate the DPF. According to Fords schedule the tank requires a top up every 37,000 miles and a new DPF every 75,000 miles. Its why we did not replace our 2005 Focus with no DPF with a 2010 one with DPF and EOLYS.
Has the EOLYS been topped up, if not it will have allowed the DPF block irreperably....
Hi all,
can I ask your opinions on this. I just bought my first sat-nav (Garmin 2569) which apparently has a 'real glass' screen.... Read more

My Peugeot as recently had a fault with the dpf and the mechanic cleared it out and as he did not have the software could not reset the onboard computer. After awhile white grey smoke started to come out of the exhaust and a burning smell. Took the car to a diagnostic garage and they ran tests and reset the dpf but noted that the glow plugs stay on and do not switch off. Car is permanently in limp mode and smokes like hell. Tried to disconnect the battery to reboot the system but to no avail. Garage says they will have to remap the software and will cost about 400 is there a cheaper alternative.
The stupid thing is that the DPF system works and will cause you much less hassle in the long run if you just fix and replace the components when they reach end of life, rather than gutting the DPF and remapping.
You factor it into the cost of ownership, and look into if the system is working before you buy a car. ...

If the key or immobiliser system is faulty, you can,t reprogramme it yourself.you will need the services of a main dealer or specialist auto locksmith.Unfortunately the timpsons keys are clones and not the real deal.
I purchased a 2010 model in November 2014 which had done a modest 19,000 miles, I have done 7,000 miles since then and all 4 Wheel Hubs, Bearings, & Sensors have had to be replaced.
Is the problem that the car has been manufactured with 4 faulty Wheel Hubs & Bearings, is the garage not getting to the route of the problem, or is the car simply substandard?... Read more
There is a possibility that the car has suffered some abuse prior to you buying it. maybe it has been driven through standing water etc.
I had similar thoughts, wondered if it might have been standing in a part of a compound that flooded regularly, have you had a good look underneath to if rust is evident in the lower suspension parts....have you subjected the car to deep water or severe dust roads regularly?...

Great Wall motors expected better sales figures when he IM group imported the Steed pick up.
