Well, the advert won't last long, but i had a young agency driver with me today (offloaded both his and my tanks), he's recently completed his CPC course...he might as well have got the necessary info from the back of a cereal packet or made it up himself, the trainer has misinformed him completely re the15 minute rule for extending the WTD break requirement to 9 hours.

I have no idea of the standards of the free (but not for long..:-) advertiser above's teaching....

We have bought a car in France and want to drive it back to UK from the south of France. Only problem is we can't see how to get insurance for this. Once in UK we can get chassis number insurance to drive it here whilst waiting for it to be registered in UK. But can we get insurance for the first stage of the journey.

Would be so helpful for any info on this. Read more

Two possibilities exist assuming you do not have an address in France ie a holiday cottage etc.

First - try Anglo Agence Dinan website www.bml.fr/...

I wondered if any of you mechanically minded peeps could help me understand what is going on. My oil light came on last night, so I turned off the engine and restarted it a few minutes later as I was a mile from home, had no torch and no oil. When I restarted it the oil light didn't come back on. So I thought perhaps it was a sensor issue rather than lack of our. I had topped it up 6 weeks ago.

So I thought I would check it in the morning before a longish journey - which I did. I checked it cold and the car was level on the road outside my house. The dipstick said it was 3/4 full so this reconfirmed what I thought to be a sensor issue. ... Read more

Using the handbook quantity is likely to overfill it

Thats because it is the quantity you need to fill a brand new bone dry engine. When you drain the oil there is always some left in the sump and oil galleries. As an example our Kia requied 5.3 litres according to the handbook. But put any more than a 5 litre container in and it would be over the top of the dipstick full mark. Unless of course Mr Total put more than 5 litres in a 5 litre bottle.

Hi, as a newby to this car, I would apreciate some info on the back lights namely, how come there are LHD and RHD back lights surely they are the same ie. sidelights/indicators/brake/fog/reverse. how are they different on european cars but also can they be adapted to fit our RH drive cars. I get it for headlights facing opposite way. Thanks. Read more

The rear fog lamp on the UK spec MX5 (mk1) was fitted in a cut out in the rear bumper skin offset slightly to the right.

Most of the imports were lashed up with a Ring brand square fog lamp attached somewhere to the outer bumper skin. You could carefully cut a square hole in the outer bumper skin and fit the Ring fog lamp to look almost identical to the original UK ones as the armature of the bumpers were the same with a place to attach a fog lamp. ...

Hi everyone,

I bought a car on a Friday and didn't use it for a week (holidays), and the Monday after that I drove it to work and noticed it was losing a lot of power so I took it to a garage near work that same morning. The turbo had failed. I called the dealership that sold the car to me and initially the didn't want to do anything about it. Then they got around and said best they could do was pay for half of the cost of the repair.... Read more

Presumably this is the same thread that was posted to Ask HJ

If the garage isnt prepared to pay the full cost of repair or refund the vehicle cost then your only option is small claims court, either you pay for the fix yourself, or you stop using the car whilst the court procedings carry on. Which ever you choose it will probably take at least 6 months to resolve, and you may then have to take further court procedings in order to recover any monies awarded by the court
