For radios whose Serial Number begins with an "M", followed by a six digit number, you can use the following link to work out what your Keycode should be:
Hello,
I hope someone can help me. I purchased a 2007 ford Focus 1.8 TDCI from a local independent garage a few months back. It has had issues starting from cold (cold engine and cold morning), at first it would start on the second attempt and it gradually got worse. It seems to only be an issue in the morning, the earlier and I suppose colder, the less likely it is to start.
Once it starts it will start fine all day. It's also more likely to start in the morning if it's been run late the night before. I returned the car back to the garage who have had it in / out of their workshop for the past month, they don't seem to be able to diagnose the problem. It's also been to a ford dealer and they can't find anything either. Part of the problem being that the garage don't open until 9AM and by the point it usually works so the garage didn't ever see the fault in action, they did have a ford electrician take a look and he said all was looking fine but he updated the software or something.
The garage have just fitted a new fuel pump but this didn't appear to have any effect on the problem. After reading about the issue online, we cleaned the in take air sensor as it appeared to be dirty with oil etc. This led to the car starting perfectly for 3 cold mornings (colder than prior mornings where it failed). However today the car failed again this morning, after 15 minutes of trying it finaly fired when I put my foot on the gas at start up (This doesn't always work and was a last resort before I headed to the train station). The temp has been around 10C \ 50F
I should probably return it to the garage to sort but I need the car for work and can't really afford to be without it for another week. I took a video of the problem with my phone... I'm happy to take a day of work to try anything anyone can suggest. I'm getting pretty desperate with the colder mornings coming up.
I've read about anti shutter valves causing issues on the 1.6 and 2.0 but I don't think mine has one?
This is what it does...

Has the fuel filter been replaced recently?I would also get the battery checked. The engine needs to spin at a good rate from cold otherwise it will not fire up.
My wife's Citroen C3 1.6 Manual Airdream has done around 100K miles and its time to get another car (second hand around 3-4 years old) for her. Please can you provide me any suggestions. The annual mileage is roughly 16K-18K miles so I'm planning to get an Automatic car in a budget of £10K. Her main requirements: 1. Reliable car. 2. Less road noise 3. Hatchback (Size similar to Citroen C3 but not more than that) 4. Minimum 1.6 engine with >100BHP 5. Rear Parking Sensors and bluetooth
My initial research resulted in VW Golf 2.0 Diesel or Seat Leon 2.0 Diesel but not sure how Automatic engines fare in these cars. Read more
£10k for one with a 5 year service plan? Let me know how that goes and I'll be close.
Hi all - my first post so please go easy on me!
I need a compact estate (2 kids and a dog) my spec is:
£5k max
Auto
Diesel
2007 onwards
100k or less mileage
I've narrowed it down to a 2007 C220 Cdi &
a 2009 V50.
I'd like some input on which might be the better choice regarding overall reliability, running costs etc.
I have experience with the Merc - my last car being a C200.
Thanks in advance Read more
I can't comment on the V50, but can comment as a current owner of a 56 plate C220 Estate.
As GB has already said, the diesels are bullet proof and give few issues as long as regular servicing is carried out. I personaly don't go with the MB service plan of oil changes every 17K - I change mine every 5-6K, but that is for my piece of mind. The autoboxes on these cars are also very good and give little trouble again, as long as service guidelines are followed (ATF changed every 40K). When the OP says his car has a failed rad, is this the issue with the rad leaking coolant in to the gearbox? If so, this issue was fixed with the switch from Valeo to Hell/Behr rads and was sorted, AFAIK, by 2004....

I left my '59 plate mini one clubman for 2 weeks this summer. It was due a service and wasn't running entirely smoothly before I left - last year mini had to replace the ?fuel injection as it was malfunctioning - it was running smoothly again for the whole year, but in the week or so before I went away it had started to have a problem with smooth running in 2nd gear (a bit like before). Booked to go into garage the week we came back, but wouldn't start to get there. I came home from hols and it wouldn't start or turn over the engine at all and the steering wheel was immobilised. The key was turning on the radio and some of the dashboard, but not all the dashboard. Absolutely no response from the engine The garage came round and thought maybe low battery, so changed that, then changed it back. Immobilised and local garage not able to tow. Local mini services says they will look if I get it to them. Everyone flummoxed as to the cause of the problem....anyone any ideas? (unfortunately I have lost 2nd key, so only one fob) At the moment am sitting with an immobilised car in front of our house, with no one local able to help.....anyone had a similar problem Read more
Without any adequate testing of the systems,it is difficult to diagnose what is the cause of the non start. As with most modern car electronics, you can,t guess what is faulty.Find a competent Indy mini specialist.

I have just spent a lot of time and money doing a top end overhaul on my car. Although it is now back in daily use I need a few parts to finish things off. When I went to the main dealer (Vauxhall) they could not help and were fairly dismissive saying that they do not supply parts for models over ten years old. I then contacted Vauxhall who although polite came back with the same response. Having hit a similar problem some years ago with Ford I have decided that any car I buy from now on will be from a manufacturer who is committed to long term owners. So who are the manufacturers have a long term commitment to owners? Read more
Some years ago I went to a friends garage to have the car MOT'd and the owner of a Rover turned up having a shout about why his car wasn't fixed. It turned out that he had bent the front beam and they were unable to find either a new or secondhand one anywhere. I can't remember the exact model but, It was only about 5 years old.
Watching Wheeler Dealers last night they were rebulding a Morgan and the man at Morgan said they can supply parts for cars upto 50 years old.

Sticking turbo vanes is a very likely cause. It's s very common problem on these, and even more common on VAG diesels that are only ever driven gently. Google Innotec Turbo Clean. I've used it before and it worked for me.
