Sorry to hear about your mum. As regards the car, you might get more for it by selling it as scrap. I scrapped my Ka 3 years back and the company collected it for me, I just left the keys in an accessible place for them. It didn't need to be on the road, so no insurance required. There was a wide variation in the price given for scrap, so shop around if you take this route. I got £150.
My Peugeot 106 diesel 1.5, has started to make a very loud off tone noise when I put the clutch pedal down. I can still get the gears in and the clutch does not slip. I have recently had a new clutch cable put in, so i do not think this is causing the issue. Does anyone know if this is a sign that the clutch is on the way out? Read more
If it did not make this noise prior to the new cable, maybe the cable has not been adjusted properly.
I seem to remember that these can suffer from the release arm bending or breaking.
We have recently purchased this car and have experienced very aggressive brakes.
I have been used to Mercedes cars which have excellent brakes but the sharpness on the Golf is almost toooooo much.... Read more
If it has brake assist that may be causing it?
Hi all
Some honest advice/opinions. Thinking of buying a 2002 estate 170k on clock most service history. I do about 5-6000k a year and need cheap , economical & reliable. Im told they are a slug but don't mind that. Any tips what to look for and experience's ?
Many thanks Read more
I agree all the maintenence issues are as the turbo cars minus the turbo issues.
I'd a Golf SDI from new some years ago. It was very economical for me. 54mpg on my commute and 57mpg on runs. But it had no aircon and I nearly fainted in the French heat....
My wife has been driving this car trouble free since we had the diesel pump, belts, etc replaced at great cost. No problems at all until the speedometer started to simply not work at random times. Nothing else wrong, just the speedo remained at zero and then suddenly started working again.
As there were not other problems, I ignored this and then the car occaionally failed to start - everything working including the starter motor but no life to the plugs. After 2-3 minutes it would start normally and run fine.... Read more
Not convinced it is a crank sensor fault. You will some plug in diagnostics to check engine rpm signal and fuel pressure.
Hi,
This is my first time on forum so please bear with me.
Can anyone advise me how to charge the battery on this car?
I tried charging yesterday using the visible positive terminal and the visible earth post which is adjacent to the battery. You can't easily get to the negative terminal as it is positioned under the bulkhead. After several hours my battery was still flat. Help please! Read more
Don't most batteries today need a special charger. An old charger is probably not capable of charging one.
OLD battery chargers will charge batteries that modern chargers won't even look at;no sophisticated electronics-just a transformer and a couple of diodes. My 50+ year old "Marble Arch Motor Supplies" works well!...
Good morning all, new here. I need a spot of advice. We have 2 cars, one needs to go, but which one?

I didn't know about the potential transfer box failure, thanks. As for funds, the sale is going towards my new motor, that in itself is going to be the next big question lol. Thanks again.
What is the best way to change over a battery?
Understand you must use a bridging battery to save the radio code obviously. But does the Central computer reset to factory settings if you don't bridge and is this not a bad thing anyway? Read more
No problem at all,as long as a low current charger is used.Ctek chargers or similar are ideal for this.Don't use an old fashioned charger that you might have found in your dad's shed from the 1970,s.
About 2 years ago on my way into work I was very surprised to see a car snaking all over the road as it came around a corner about 50 meters away from me. Luckily it missed me and the van following and neatly spun into the near side wall making a sizable hole (but thankfully it bounced back since its a 20 ft drop) and then dismantled itself as it continued to spin several more times. The road was liitered with debris including the radiator and intercooler but traffic just drove starit over it weaving past the smoking wreckage of the car which contained a very pregant young driver and her passenger.
When they arrived the Police closed the road....
