The suction mount on the new Garmin nuviCam is so short that it cannot be used on very raked windscreens such as my Audi A5 coupe. The top of the nuviCam fouls the windscreen and the camera will only point to the sky making it useless. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Read more
Hi I put a deposit down with a credit card, went see the car but the brake disc were very corroded and they said it had full service history, but it was missing a service. They said they will check the brakes before I collect the car and give me a new MOT, i took pictures and showed to a mechanic and he said that should be changed. Also I checked the MOT online when I got home as they did not have it to hand, and it had the brakes, headlight and wiper as advisory's, so clearly they were aware of the cars issues. Although I signed a receipt for my £200 deposit, they did say they would check the brakes before delivery, but after the MOT check i don't trust them, do you think i have the right to ask for my deposit back? Surely it all depends on the nature of the deposit - non-refundable or refundable.
I put a refundable deposit of £500 for a car to be brought from another Mercedes dealership branch. The car did not meet my expectations and deposit was refunded with no problem....
I have noticed quite a few, but not all, second hand dealers here in Bristol have started adding £99 to the price of a car. What is this all about? One dealer ,usedcarsofbristol, says it is to protect you from the car being stolen, on an HP agreement or other such things . I thought dealers were duty bound by law to check these things and to provide a 6 month warranty? If they don't call it an idemnity fee it is called an admin fee. I thought the whole point of paying dealer inflated prices was for the peace of mind it brought. Is this yet another example of "rip off Britain'?
They will not be getting my custom. It is just like ticket agencies charging an admin fee.... Read more
As a professional trader has to give you good title to your new car, everyone subscribes to HPI and it costs buttons in volume. Charging an admin. fee to cover these essentials is just a way of them having cars that appear £99 cheaper on the forecourt than they really are.
Hi all,
I'm planning to buy a used car. I live right in central London and won't need to use it much - maybe once or twice a month, with most of the driving being longer trips outside London. I reckon I'll only do about 3-4k miles per year.
I've been poring over this site and can't make up my mind whether I should get an old banger like a 05 Octavia 1.9 diesel (<£3k) or whether I should get a 3-4 year old Hyundai i30 still under warranty (about £7k).
My main criterion is reliability.
Followed by:
- cost
- space
- economy
- not too sluggish
I'll probably only keep the car for 2-3 years.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. I have very little experience with cars and no real interest in them. I'd just keep getting hire cars (there are loads within walking distance) but I'm sick of the hassle.
Thank you in advance. I appreciate that my logic may be confusing.

You cleaned the injectors? May I ask how exactly did you clean them? I hope you're going to say you cleaned the body of the injectors and not the nozzles.

Is there anyway I can find the serial number for my radio (3000 taffic) without removing it? I held down 2&6 and 3&6 neither worked. I held down 1&6 and it flashed up MP DS DP and then flashed up 303 255. I'm not sure this is the serial number but tried M303255 on the link you posted which gave me code 6325. My radio went in lock down for 30 minutes... Help please.
Mrs Happy Blue drives a Nissan Juke 1.6CVT Tekna. It has done its job perfectly since it arrived in March 2013, but the lease comes to an end in February 2016. She does no more than 7,000 miles pa.
Our only gripe with the car is the boot, which has a high loading lip and is really quite small unless you remove the boot floor, revealing a cavernous well beneath, but which is no good for the dog. Fortunately, our little mutt (a Bolognese) is small enough to sit in the boot without difficulty.... Read more
Ah ha! Finally we have a decision. Convertible is no good - too small and not practical. Phew! Back to the Renegade for which leasing costs seems to be far more reasonable than the asking prices. Needless to say she wants the top of the range with heated everything, reversing camera and the full glass roof..... Ah well.

It has only done 1600 miles as it was apparently a motablity car returned for reasons unknown.... Read more
I'm unable to set the TA (Traffic Announcement) volume in my Yaris. I've RTFM that tells me to set it when it's receiving a TA. If I do that, the volume changes while I'm moving the volume control (either on the unit or the steering wheel controls), but it reverts to whatever volume the unit's set at as soon as I stop changing the volume.
This can be very annoying as the input level from the USB socket seems very low. I have to wind it up to have an acceptable level and then if a TA comes in, it's deafening.... Read more
I am looking for a new car but it has to be suitable for my two dogs. One is a large German Shepherd and the other is a basset hound.
The issue I am finding is that I need a car which is low at the back as my German Shepherd has bad arthritis and cannot jump very high (the basset also has rather short legs so again, a low back is necessary!). I also need the back seats to lie completely flat when put down, again for the comfort of the dogs.
I don't want a huge car and I have a Fiat Punto at the moment. I have looked at a Kia Venga, Hyundai ix20, Ford B-max, Vauxhall Mokka and a Peugeot 2008.
The only thing I can really think might be suitable is maybe a Renault Kangoo?
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance :) Read more
I'd have thought any sensible estate car would fit the bill.
However as you are looking it might be worth making sure the rear door windows are full electric openers for convenience, and on some vehicles (can't tell you which others but my Landcruiser does which is very useful) as well as the rear door windows being large openers the estate side windows are hinged at the front for some handy extra ventilation....
There are shaped pads which sit on the dashboard which such gadgets will sit on quite securely (obviously with the suction pad turned round to face down).
