Thought i would post this up as i came across it at work today, had a 2009 octavia with the cooling fan coming on when engine turned off and ran until it flattened the battery, after lots of head scratching, it turned out to be water in the engine fuse box, stripped the fuse box and found all the contacts green. from the outside it looked fine but upon splitting it, it was toast.

Becoming a regular issue on Vag cars that use a similar fuse box.It is important that the fusebox lid is a secure fit and rain water from the wiper/scuttle area can drain away without swamping the fuse box.

On the 8th of may I went to Wickes here in Colchester and bought a new oven. Staff helpful, and all ok. I suppose i was in the store for only about 15 minutes, but returned a couple of hours later to buy something else.

Today all of 6 weeks later I have received a penalty charge notice for overstaying the allotted time of 90 minutes.... Read more

Driving along the motorway earlier today, cruise control was on - nice steady speed. Suddenly a single audio tone sounded - and the engine management lamp (yellow coil shaped symbol) started flashing. The cruise control disengaged. I drove for another 5 mins at a reduced speed and stopped into a servcie station. The engine had not overheated - all other systems were normal. I set off again and after another 10 mins of steady driving, the engine management glow lamp came on again - but this time, I lost all power! Had to limp into the hard shoulder using whatever speed was left - and call the breakdown services. The car would not re-start. Fuel tank still 2/3 full. Got a tow home. Tomorrow, when the garages open, I will have to take it in. But what could have caused all this ? The car is from October 2009, and has just 59K miles on the clock - mainly motorway driving. This is the first serious fault I have ever experienced with it. Read more

Quick update: The car was left outside a local garge yesterday by the tow truck. I managed to pop in and see the mechanic this morning when they opened. He started the car - it turned over just fine - but the engine management lamp did not appear. He will carry out an electronic diagnosis today. He mentioned that the loss of engine power on on the motorway yesterday was simply the engine entering the safe mode.

Will report back once diagnosis has been performed and any costs incurred....

Hi, having problems with my 2005 master van , will only charge at 12.5 volts??? had new battery, had new alternator still sits at 12.5 volts, does the exciter wire for the alternator go through the BCM or is it just an ignition feed via the instrument cluster? pulling my hair out now!! Read more

Yep, pleased to see you got it sorted, some faults seem to defy logic.

My 55 plate 330d touring, E91, has NON comfort access key fobs. Neither unlock/lock doors, but both start the engine. I have replaced the battery in one of them, not easy as they are not meant to be replaced as they should charge while in ignition. It is now emitting a good signal when i checked with my key transmitter. However still nothing!

I believe the problem is with the diversity antenna/amplifier, which is located under the boot spolier, which can apparently get wet and fail. ... Read more

Well there's a surprise!!As this is a touring, the problem could be water in the receiver unit ,under the gate spoiler ,or broken wiring from the tailgate to the body.(very common)23/6/15.

using exhaust additives such as adblue - so they should regenerate passively

Adblue has nothing to do with aiding regens, it added to reduce NOX emmisions. Its EOLYS that is addedto the diesel to assist reges and very few manufacturers have gone down that road.

Thanks to all who replied, it is helpful to know that others share similar views.

For the record, the maximum rated pressure for my tyres (moulded into the sidewall) is 3.5 bar / 51 psi. Although the maximum laden pressure of 48 psi is within this limit, I would not be happy going as high as that....

I imagine the switch is actually faulty. It probably supplies a constant feed back to the BCM and became faulty causing the lights to stay on. I.e. it probably is normally closed and thay fooled the garages unplug-and-see style of diagnosis.

Either that or a chaffed wire somewhere.
