A friend bought a new A3 earlier this year and without the number plate you could think it's 3 or 5 years old.
I sold a 15yr old A6 last year. Without the number plate you could think it's 3 or 5 years old. ...
The wife's A3 has recently developed what I can best describe as 'twichy' steering. It only happens in a straight line on dual carriageways/motorways at speeds of 50mph+ where the steering wheel seems to grab (feels slightly notchy) almost like there is play in the steering, but at slower speeds all seems fine, no play at all and you can't replicate it, no matter how hard you rock the steering wheel, no discernable knocks or noise.
It is a little alarming when it does happen.
Steering racks do seem problematic on this model, but the light on the dash doesn't indicate there is a problem.... Read more
... and check the tyre pressures of course.
just wondering running about town getting low figures but on a run of a round trip of over 100miles getting around 40 mpg and this is motorway driving,is this about right for this model.
Agreed. I can't recall ever getting 40 mpg out of our 1.8 petrol C-Max even on a run. I'm guessing sticking to 60 - 65 mph on a motorway it would be possible, but at 70 - 75 mph it will be around 35 or 36 mpg.

Hi my heating system is blowing hot air all the time when on cold settings. does anyone know what this could be? thanx
Cam belt broke, is this a safe engine, what's the liklihood of more damage and cost of repair Read more
Certainly not completely safe but it may have only broken the rockers rather than the valves, my early 8 valve Hdi certainly has that arrangement but don't know about the 16 valve engines.

Timing chains need a supply of good quality oil to keep running without wear.
So leaving 17,000 miles between services will mean it wears out prematurely....
Hello all.
I presently have a BMW X5 3litre diesel 2006, it has been a wonderful car, but it is starting to have problems, some quite expensive, so I am looking for suggestions for another car.
It is mainly for work (I am self employed) and I do quite a lot of miles. I need a big boot. I also have back problems, so need a good seating position. I like 4x4s, and prefer automatic.
I wonder if anyone has suggestions?
What I need:
High ride and good seat position as I do very long journeys (often5-6hours at a time)
The biggest boot space possible
Seats for 5 people as I have young kids - also I like a solid, 'safe' car - more important to me than price
Cruise control
Not slow!
Other things that would be good:
I prefer automatic because I often have sciatica in my left leg
Prefer diesel, but not fixed in stone
Xenon or led headlights
I am sure there are other things I haven't remembered...
I have the trade in price of this BMW plus a few thousand to spend, so not too much really.
I looked at the Volvo XC90 and xc70 - the latter is too small in the back, and the 90 seems to have other problems I have seen on forums. I had an xtrail several years ago - a good reliable car but found it slow, uncomfortable and not a nice ride. Any other suggestions like this?
Thanks
Tseb
