February 2013
Hi All,
Sorry my first post is about a problem.
Last week i bought a 2008 vw cc that had 80k (miles) on the clock with history.
As it is a vw they have long life servicing so the last service was in early 2011 @60k.
Now for my concern i was transferring my private plate and noticed the MOT history that in '11 mileage was 70k yet in '12 it had 126k.
I immediately called the dealer and he has now comeback to me saying the last MOT had been mistakenly been done in kilometres.
He states vw and the MOT station will confirm.
Is this plausible?
Would anyone else believe this?
Had it serviced by vw and they state the 4 tyres are dangerous due to flat spots and a buldge on one of them.
Really tempted to just reject car
Thanks
Ps. This car cost £8k so not a cheap banger Read more
Hi,
The car is just over 3 years old and run about 20000 miles, I had it for about 11 months. I noticed a few problems:... Read more
There is a bearing in the gearbox that breaks up & is mentioned in HJ's CBC guide www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/honda/jazz-2008/?sec...d
I'm surprised the Honda dealer hasn't come across it before. If they don't diagnose the problem in the next month I would certainly take up the extended warranty.
my engine management light seems to come on when the car is under load or when the car is on the moterway doing 70mph it is the second time it as come on when the car is on the moterway doing 70mph it dosent seem to show any fault when they plug the car in the car does seem to ping when it is cold but it stops ping when the car as warmed up does any one have any idea why the engine management would come on when the car is doing 70mph or under load please could any one help please Read more
Here's a suggestion... It may not work, just a suggestion..
Get your own code-reader (about 45 quid from a car-parts shop). Plug it in and find a technicaly competent friend to sit in the passenger seat and watch it whilst you go for a drive. After all, it'll cost you an hour's labour to find a garage mechanic who's willing to do that. It may show up something..... But first and always, look under the bonnet and just check that everything is as it should be. Is the air filter clean, for instance? Little things can upset the miriad of sensors in a modern car....
I am about to take delivery of a new Q5 and require towing facility for my caravan.
Audi are quoting £1800 for thier kit as apposed to a Whitter bar with dedicated electrics ( not by pass) which costs £650.... Read more
I think you will find that most of the VAG tow bars/kits are made by westphalia (I believe a division of vag group).Take a look here;westfalia-automotive.co.uk/audi_towbars_and_wiring.../
We know nothing about cars and have very little available money.... just to set the scene... :-)
We have been offered a Renault Laguna Dynamique, 1.9 Diesel from 2005. There is a little confusion about mileage because of a new clock, but somewhere in the region of 70.000. It comes from a trade contact of a friend who owns a garage and we can have it for £2000. It sounds like a good deal.... Read more
They do work-sadly.
I thought they only worked as long as the car was driven in the correct way to keep them working?
My engine management light came on yesterday. I called the AA out and they came up with these faults, but could not tell me what they mean't. U0028 vehicle communication Bus A and U0055 vehicle communication Bus D. The AA man could not tell me whether or not it was safe to drive to the main dealers. Can anyone help me please. Read more
Thank you for replying. I now have it booked into Citroen for tomorrow.
Please advise. I've tried to make it as brief as possible. Please read.
Bought 2003 Audi A3 FSi Sport September 2011. December 2011 head gasket went, engine overheated and boiled dry. Local garage repaired for £1600 (cylinder head was sent away for pressure testing and skimming). Took car back many many times due to engine sounding like a tractor (one of the rings had split in the variable valve), never starts first time, oil leaks and water leaks. Sump was damaged as it was left resting on an axle stand which went through it so they had it patched inside and out.
November 2012 head gasket gone again. Garage claimed new gasket and bolts under warranty from VW and old garage said as a goodwill gesture they would only charge me £300 to fit (labour wasn't covered under VW warranty as not a VW approved repairer).
January garage finally finished the car. Told me it was 100% mechanically sound but wouldn't start due to computer code fault. Would start when they attached their computer. It needed to go to another garage with a more sophisticated computer to diagnose fault. I drove car to new garage. It limped the 8 miles driving very badly.
New garage diagnosed cam shaft sensor in audible. New garage told old garage it was a timing issue. Took car back to old garage.
Got voicemail message saying old garage will pay new garage to time it up as they don't have the correct tools to do it.
New garage stripped engine. Timing plate was missing, bolts were missing or loose. Sump has mastic around it. They timed it up and rebuilt. Starts first time but appears that head gasket has gone again after two days. Old garage will not do anymore work on it unless I pay. Asked new garage to strip and diagnose problem (£200 plus vat to strip plus the same cost to rebuild) - the block is warped and needs new engine. Cylinder head is badly scratched from old garage sanding before fitting new gasket so would need skimming if using again).
Old garage have a bill of £509 from new garage for the problems with timing and missing parts. Which they have said they will pay. They are not charging me labour but will not help with anything else. They said when the company who pressure tested the head cut off the timing plate although I was never told this and so I never knew.
What do I do? new garage is quoting £1,000 plus vat to fit a reconditioned engine (plus cost of engine) or scrap it? It's at the garage in pieces at the moment. Paid £4,600 for the car in September 2011 on my visa whilst waiting for personal loan to clear. Three year loan not half way through yet (£220 month - borrowed £6,500 to include insurance and to clear £1,000 debt). Garage where we bought the car ceased trading after 9 years two months after we bought the car.
Any advise would be gratefully received. Thank you for any help you can offer. Having sleepless nights not knowing what to do :( Read more

@Collos25 - I will admit I had assumed that by discionnecting the MAF we'd be looking for a change to the performance as a faulty one would have had at least some effect. But what you are saying is logical - it is is not active the car could run as if the MAF were not on-line.

Tho you don't say what milage is on your 2l renault. Theres certainly a issue with the 2l hydraulic chain tensioner & chain. When either of the 2 are worn (common fault) it causes a non start situation simply because it alters ignition timing needs to be checked out Hth Regards Mickeybo
Why would anyone want to change into KMs in the UK its probably been used to travel to Poland and back every week, the ferries are full of such cars used by many drivers to transport families and goods etc.The cars are run non stop itsonly the drivers that change.
No matter what mileage or KMs its done if its on the MOT and in the DVLA plus HPI its a sod to have it changed and whos going to believe it.
