hi all, i have a 54 reg vectra cdti 150 manual with 91k, there is a wheel brg type grind between 35-45mph, but is silent above 45mph. I thought the noise would get worse with speed but it goes completely, also sometimes theres a slight clunk from the front when i release the brake pedal, only half the time, usually after braking fairly hard then releasing. Finally the brake pad light is on but all the pads are new, any ideas on these? Im kind of baffled, cheers Read more

no noises but slight forward/backward play in nsr wheel, had the hub done on that a few weeks back, im not sure its a w. brg because the noise disappears with speed. ATS euromaster dont know, the clunk might be the brake piston sticking, im told? cheers

It is not in the rad it is a separate unit. You need to remove it and have it pressure tested. Regards Peter

My Ford Fiesta is due for its first service and I would like to take it to a Ford main dealer.

My 3 best options are : Runcorn, Warrington ( both Polar Ford) and Manchester (Evans Halshaw, Old Trafford).

Anyone have any recommendations for any of these 3 (or ones to avoid)?
A mate of mine used the Manchester one and ended up paying out a small fortune - so I am semi-reluctant to use them.

Any experience welcome!

Cheers

I have always had good service from the smaller, family run type garages than the massive glass and chromium emporia with 200 cars for sale and 6 salesmen on commission and all driving 60 registered cars! The cost has to come from somewhere! Does your owners handbook not give a list of all agents in your area? I'd got for a small one, given a free choice. They are a bit cheaper, usually can provide a courtesy car and are easier to deal with IMO.Look at http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/directory/

Hi all

Last week I was driving my 1995 ford escort 1.8 diesel 55 carvan when it suddenly lost all power. Luckily it happened only 100 yards from the house. I pushed it home but couldn't start it. I took off the starter and had it reconditioned. Made no difference. I recharged the battery. The dash lights come on when I turn the key bet there's nothing from the engine when I try to start it. I had put on a new alternator about 2 months ago and everything was fine until last week. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do?

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I have to walk / hitch everywhere at the moment!

Thanks

If the engine is turning over but not starting, especially if its turning over faster than usual I would suspect that you cam belt has broken.

Hello all

Following on from a question that my wife posted a few weeks ago, we have found ourselves trying to find a sensible car for a future family after a few years of fun with a 2001 Mazda Mx5 Mk2 1.8.... Read more

CamBelt change would be the big cost on a 60K mile car (typically). I'd check to see if that was done. If not you'll be looking at a more costly service than usual.

The A3 and to some extent the A4 are much tighter inside the rear compared to the equivalent VW (passat or golf)....

This is a 2010 model Corsa VXR.

The accelerator pedal is quite stiff after the first inch or so of travel. It's not exactly hard to press, it's more notchy/sticky - it's hard to make minor adjustments to the amount of gas. Seems a bit all or nothing. This is a fairly nippy little car so it can make smooth progress a bit difficult.... Read more

I'd imagine there's lots of plastic rubbing against plastic so my first call would be to grab my can of pound shop silicone lube and spray, bending the pedal left and right before I....

Went back to them in a bad mood, with a flask and some sandwiches. A mobile phone might help you to alert the local press.

With a model like that they should be giving you some service instead of fobbing you off.
