Hi there is a whirling noise in the automatic gearbox of my car. the car can also kinda shudder when this happens. there is 103K on the car.

it mostly happens when i keep the acceleration at a constant level, espesially if goen up a slight hill or even on a level road. when the light for the automatic transmission came up on the dash I brought it to the bmw garage. they replaced the gear selector. I got the car back but the problem returned the next day. I brought the car back and they replaced the gear box fluid. but the problem came back. I returned the car and they said they done a few jobs on it.... Read more

Hi,

I have a Vauhall 51 Plate 1.4 16v Petrol Astra. For a while now the EML has been on and this is due to the car having multiple misfire, misfire in the 3rd cylinder. I have had it into a garage and everytime I have it back it will run for a week or two and then start misfiring again.... Read more

My Mum's Polo has a history of flat batteries, three of them. the AA keep turning up and supplying "new" ones (I'm told). The advice she has recieved it to "leave it running on the drive for 20 minutes" this isn't any good as it upsets neigbours.

My understanding is that if a car consistantly flattens batteries then it is the alternater at fault. the question then is; Do I replace the alernater? or is there some other part in the system I can replace?... Read more

Hi,

Assuming she does short journeys, that alone will cause a flat battery eventually. I would suggest you invest in a battery charger and put the battery on charge say, once a month - perhaps when the vehicle is not being used for a couple of days....

I have a rattle/rumbling noise coming from the underside of my 56 reg Civic. It appears to be coming from the area between the front seats and the rear end. It's not coming from the exhaust, the noise occurs on poor road surfaces and pot holes in the roads. It almost sounds like something rattling in the boot!

Has anybody experienced this problem!... Read more

Hi not to put a downer on the swap but !!! Are they getting rid of it because of the problems they have had ? Eg head gasket gearbox ect as if the car was A1 you had just spent out on all the bits you had listed most people would hold on to it for a bit to recoup or benefit from all the money spent, how long have they owned the car ? Has it had paint ? Have they raged it about or tried to trick it up ? If it was a top draw straight motor it would probably fetch 1/3 more than yours at a car auction, so just watch out If it looks to good to be true !! It usually is !!!!

Hi,

I have a 2005 Audi A4 2.0 TDI and the temperature gauge barely moves above 50 degrees if at all. Somethings rises the width of the needle above the 50 degree mark. The car blows (luke-warm) hot air still.

I think the termostat may be faulty (or perhaps has been taken out, I just bought the car and having lots of trouble so far).

Does anyone have a picture of the thermostat for that car?

Would my thermostat look like this:

I think the auto shop I spoke to on the phone has the first (regular looking) one.

Railroad.

Agree, and the reason for using G12 is it doesn't harm the seals on the fuel cooler, unlike some other anti-freeze types......

Hi, a/m engine is fitted to a Suzuki jeep. seems to run well but top speed with pedal on the floor is down to 140 Km an hour (without head wind) and revs mx 4200/4300. There is a gap between accelerating start and actual accelaration start on the pump. Cable cannot be adjusted anymore. There are no leaks visible and no smoke comming out the back. I used to be able to push up 5000 revs occasionaly. This pump has no gas adjusting screw.
Any help on this please?
many thanks

Help! Since buying my Xsara back in January this year I have had the intermittant STOP! and exclamation warning light on my dash along with the intolerable beeping sound.

It used to come on once/twice per journey but since wiggling a few wires (as technical as I get) it has now become permanant - I thought it could be bad wiring with the fact it constantly flickers and will go off for a short period if i slightly hit any part of the foot well. Any help greatly appreciated! - I also have a new error of seatbelt/airbag light permanantly on.... Read more

hi there don't know if you still have this but have you checked the water in the radiator? that normally causes the "STOP!" light to come on
