Hi All,
Company Car choice time! Not the biggest list to choose from but for me and the GF have narrowed it down to a choice of 4. Any views on which to go for/engine etc would be great! I do approx 12,000 miles a year in work and private miles so am finding it hard to say diesel will save me money (cost 10% extra per month for a diesel over petrol. Probably half miles on motorway, half in the city centre.... Read more
Yes, toyota reliability and safety is legendary. The recall issues across the world aside.
There is no such thing as a fault-free car, all manufacturers suffer from frequent recalls and get basic designs wrong occasionally, I firmly believe the recent media emphasis on Toyota recalls was US-led in a desperate bid to shore up its virtually bankrupt home-grown motor manufacturers, as Toyota were quite rightly going from strength to strength - uncle Sam didn't like it.
In my experience the VW group are terrible at admitting mistakes, they tend to hide problems rather than issue recalls when they should, eg the tens of thousands of exploding 2 litre PD engines - which they will not even admit there's a problem - let alone do something about it. Toyota on the other hand are generally honourable and are very responsive to issues. Warranty companies do not lie – their very business depends on accurate data – Japanese cars are the cheapest to warranty and have the least number of claims – I'm sorry if this contradicts your badge-snobbery, but it's fact....

I've just been quoted, by a Ford dealer, £596.16 for 3 services and 1 MOT for my 59reg 1600cc. It's payable monthly by direct debit and is based on 12k miles per annum. Deal or No Deal ? Read more
The offer excluded items replaced for wear and tear.
I've since spoken to my local Ford dealer who tells me their C-Max service charges are: 1st service £120 2nd service £150 3rd service £170 MOT £54 (all rounded up) so thats about £100 cheaper currently whereas the other offer was price fixed.
Could anyone tell me if there is more than the UK covered on the media system fitted in the ix35. Read more
My 03 reg Peugeot is worth £2500 approx. A third party has admitted ALL liability and wrote my car off. But the MOT expired over two months ago.
As the insurance want The log book and MOT to make a settlement . What do i tell the insurance company without an MOT Read more
The first thing to do is to tell them.
No MoT does not invalidate your insurance and in any event this is a non-fault claim on your part against the third party....
Took car to local reputable garage (not renaut) as having problem getting into gear. Problem was master cylinder leaking whcih they fixed. They then said once fixed car wouldn't start. changed the battery still didn;t work. Got autoelectricain in who said may be started motor - replaced. Next it was ECU(?) and this was replaced (well over £1000). IN the middle of all this when we were getting upset they admitted that they drained the battery when trying to bring the car into the garage as I left it parked outside when I dropped it. they couldn't get it to move and ended up draining battery (I assuem) na dhad to push it into garage. Then it wouldnt start. Once ECU replaced car would start but electric throughout car had gone - automatic handbreak, dashboard, AC etc. car was moved to renaut garage and has been away from us for about 8 weeks in total. We feel that this was probably caused by them although they say these things happen in such cars. Is this true? If we had taken the car to renaut dealership in 1st place I woudl expect that this wouldnot have happened. They have agreed to negotiate on bill but are not taking any responsibility at moment. Any advice please?? Read more
batteries can suddenly fail without warning, especially once they get drained, but for all the other problems it sounds very much like they have iether used a mains booster ( rather than a ni-cad power pack) with the ign on and spiked the sytem or jump leads and may even of connected wrong way round to damage so many components.
Seen it done to an Omega CDX which blew every electronic component in the car ! including sat nav, abs, auto box ecu eng ecu light curcuit,ac system etc.
I feel that this is fairly serious and you will need to keep the old electrical components and have one or two inspected for a possible cause and seek proffesional advice from a vehicle inspector to pursue if needs be.
I'd like to install brighter bulbs in the headlights; the owners manual states it is necessary to remove the light units to change the dip bulbs and it looks much easier to change main beam bulbs with the units out - are any special tools/techniques needed to do this or is it a straightforward job?
