Hey.
I have a ford fiesta 98. I had this problem a few weeks ago, which was sorted when I had the heater control valve replaced with a BRAND NEW one. This cured my problem for around 2-3 weeks and I had glorious hot air! Rather than cold only in -5C outdoor temperatures!
Anyway, since the hot air has packed up again, I only have cold air and the part is brand new. SURELY it CAN'T be the new part?
The coolant level is fine, though I think the thermostat is abit dodgy. The engine temp gauge used to be right in the middle but now it's usually under half or just over..

>>Every week I get around 20 e-mails asking for Focus sized diesel, torque-converter automatics.
So, as that article is at least a couple of years old, has anyone actually bought an i30 diesel auto? We've got the i30 1.4 Comfort, but my dodgy knee appears to be getting worse and it's time to swap to an auto. I've found a few crdi auto's for sale, but wanted some feedback on what they're like.
HJ, did you ever drive one?

...hunts when you are in 40 limits...
I suppose this is a function of the ever increasing numbers of ratios on auto boxes.
Years ago, there would have been at most two changes from 0-60mph - first to second and second to third.
Now there could be five - first to second, second to third, third to fourth, fourth to fifth and fifth to sixth.
A mate of mine has just mis-fuelled his car (currently getting it drained).
After the proper fuel is added and a new fuel filter (and provided no damage done), what is the best way to drive it ?
I.e. does he let the engine get hot then give it a good blast down the motorway to get all of the fuel lines recoated ?
The car is an older Vauxhall Asta (02 reg) if thats any help. Read more
congrats , now change the fuel filter a few times , and all will be good ,,,,we hope
This afternoon, in an emergency, I had to drive a vehicle with a S.O.R.N. I went past a standard "camera partnership" van parked in a lay-by. I was not speeding. Should I rush out first thing tommorrow to tax this vehicle? Read more
Agree with Andy P. The ordinary stand alone "safety partnership" van will only be triggerd if you're speeding. Whether a speeding tag would trigger other enquiries I don't know.
The ANPR teams looking for tax/insurance dodgers are usually paired with bikes or cars for immediate interception. A NIP through the post won't cut the mustard with the scallys.

If they claim 5 years they are lying.
Forum members may recall that over the years I have had issues with My Audi S8 missing randomly. I was talking to an Audi technician the other day who said it may be down to having the petrol tank at a low level, as this car had a factory induced missfire if the level of petrol was too low. I have never ever heard of this one before, but as I normally run the car on LPG and deliberatly keep the petrol level low (less weight to lug around) it may have some legs. Anyway I topped the car right up on Friday and so far no missing, but it can go for weeks with not missing anyway, but that could be because I had topped it up!!
By the way the petrol gauge is the only electrical thing on the car not working at the moment, in its 14th year and 189,000 miles is not too bad me thinks. Read more
It loses one or two octane rating per year.
Does your lpg conversion not start on petrol anyway then switch to lpg once running? I was looking at a range rover on lpg and there were all sorts of conditions like ambient temperature had to be above 3 degrees c or it would choose to stay on petrol, or if you booted it, back onto petrol etc.
I am loosing a bit of coolant (about 250ml per 200 miles) there is always a bit of water dripping out the exhaust but it dosn't smell of anything and I use my car for very short journeys so I think that is all it is. There is also the usual mayo under the oil cap.
The oil itself is very clean and in the 3000 miles I've had the car its probably used 200ml of oil even if that.
My header tank is full of crap its like horrible stuff floating around it, somebody said this could be breaking up radweld.
When I have the heater on I can smell a leaking battery sort of smell could this be the leaking coolant which is hot? I've had a look round the heater matrix and all seems dry but I suspect the leak is one of the hoses that joins it and the previous owner had tried to fix it with rad weld.
Anybody else got any ideas of what to do now? I don't want to simply put more rad weld in it. Read more
The stuff I got said it needs to be completly drained, its called blockseal I bought it from this back street engine repair specialists which I found ironic.
I am not going to put that stuff in my car until I am 100% sure that I am getting rid of it, if I am then there isn't really anything to loose. What is putting me off the repair is knowing what damage might be found when the head is removed, e.g if it needs new valves.
Hi, need some help with my Vreg 60,000mi 1.4s Lupo.
When idling or revving/driving under 2000 revs the petrol engine sounds like transit van!!!!! As soon as you rev or drive above 2000 engine noise/heavy rattle smooths out???
It doesn't go away with pushing the clutch. All the fluids are at the correct level.
Have only just bought it so don't know how it's materialised? Car was warm when I bought it and just sounded like bad tappets so thought this would be the case, however when I drove it home 100 miles the sound was a lot worse and now cold sounds like an old diesel. Sold as seen cheap, get what you pay for I suppose!!! :-(
It is due major service and belt change could this be it? Does anyone know if this is common or what common probelms are like belt tensioners, crank etc.
Any help would be appreciated will book the car in at local vw garage but could do with a heads up on probs and prices for belt changes full service etc.
Cheers Dave. Read more

Great isn't it? I've heard this before. We are set up in this country to
produce petrol at the refineries you get more petrol out of a gallon of crude
oil we export our surplus of petrol to the US.
This isn't entirely correct. More diesel is gained from crude than lighter products such as octane. HOWEVER, in the late 80's and early 90's most of the oil companies fosaw a greater demand for the the THEN more valuable petrol product. So the set about building giant catalyst cracking plants (like the one in Milford Haven partly owned by Texaco-Chevron).
This said, in the late 90's and early noughties as we all know, large swathes of the world went diesel car crazy patly due to the refinements of the newer vehicles, so all of this extra petrol producing capacity became a bit redundant, forcing them to export to the US as you say.
Since my father retired from the oil industry I'm a bit out of touch, but I would assume they have spent the last decade catching up with the demand for diesel fuels. The fun will realy start when the new anti-pollution laws start to dictate sulphur levels on very heavy fuel oils for trains and ships etc.

near the filler cap is a small bore rubber pipe follow this to the other end it will be blocked where it fits on the cylinder head remove the fitting and clear the blockage with a drill or woodscrew re connect and refill
this is a common problem on this model - should do the trick
