It struck me today that apart from the usual stuff about drag coefficients and fashion trends, designers may be thinking as much about fitting the most cars onto transporters. Have any of you experts any thoughts? Read more
The relatively new battery flattens within 48 hours if the car is not used. Battery tested as good and alternator working properly. Battery is larger than necessary for this car. Nothing left on, no drain found either by me or my specialist Alfa garage. Any thoughts on the cause of the problem please? Read more
If you have found no discharge as suggested above using a ammeter, then the battery must be discharging its self?
Leave the battery disconnected and see if it self discharges. It is possible if the battery top is dirty for it to discharge this way.
Since the onset of the cold spell (coincidence?!)- the sidelights on the vehicle come on as soon as ignition is switched on even tho they are not switched on at the column. cant switch them off until ignition is off. also entire heater control is not operating at all. Any ideas? Read more
over the past week the drivers window has started to 'whistle' while on the motorway. i couldnt see a gap but when i washed it yesterday water started dripping through. how do i push it back up - is it a case of taking the door trim off and pushing the runners up a little or will this damage the motor when its in use?
thanks Read more
anyone?
This is based on the Mondeo so if anyone knows of a fix.
thanks
My jeep cherokee 2.5 TD 2000 got great pulling power when towing. i have a 8metre long caravan twin axle Bailey Ranger. The problem i experience is i seem to get an unsteady feeling when doing upto 60mph the car and caravan appear to rock or bounce which is a bit worrying. This problem is more constant when accelerating or going down hill. The same problem is componded even more when being over taken or through side winds. Sometimes i get the feeling of being on a boat!!! Read more
Thanks everyone for taking time to respond. Think their is a fair bit to digest Jeep has mot this week so will get the machanic to take a good look at shocks and suspension and so on. As for nose weights think there is a fair few differences in what is correct or not. I have been towing for 7yrs now with various cars and caravans and have always tried to keep the van straight on the tow ball. I did experience this problem with my last van Bailey Pageant sing axle when towing with the jeep. Never experienced any trouble with other cars prior to the Jeep. Maybe the Jeep is the problem not the loading of the caravan.
Finding the `stiff upper lip` in motoring stories - free (virtual) pink gin for the winner.
First though there`s the ritual to go through in order for your brain to switch modes - from quivering jelly to hard baked scone.
Stand to attention and salute the British flag. You are wearing a Pith helmet - the Sun is setting over the British Empire, in India . The sweat runs down your back unnoticed and the starched white uniform and sword gleam as you stand ramrod straight for Queen Victoria.
Never in your wildest dreams would you believe that your great grandson would be sobbing and whimpering a century later - because he had a swirl mark on his metallic paint.
Although, it must be said - that stiff upper lip is STILL there when it comes to personal illness. Horrible indeed to British mentality if we all suddenly said ` stuff the car - it`s just an object - I have this SPOT THAT WON`T GO AWAY. Surely more concern than a stone chip? Or a heart attack (or other) over the motors DPF?
Anyway, now that you are in the mood (hopefully) do you know any stories of motoring that demonstrate the stiff upper lip of the British motorist?
( I know you just had a mental image of your Uncle Bert wearing a knotted hanky on his head - not a pith helmet - but that`s OK)
Over to you - and all the best.

Possibly more Schaudenfreude, but certainly required S.U.L from driver. Staying in a hotel in the South West last summer, and witnessed an "upper class" lady demanding that her friend (who wasn't a guest) be given free access to health club. Following morning she was at the next table to us at breakfast, and, immediately outside the window in the car park was a large roller (Carmargue?) that had "failed to proceed" and was having attention from The A.A. as you can imagine, many of the diners were commenting on the shame of the situation (with some relish) and it transpired that the Rolls belonged to our neighbour's Husband. Much stiff upper lip from husband.

a recall is a general thing based on vin numbers , your car is going in for a safety CHECK, your car has not been deemed unroadworthy
please stop spreading roumours?
I've recently started driving lessons and I'm looking to buy a car. Ideally I'd like a Morris Minor but I'm only 5'1". I've never driven one, the only car I've driven so far is my instructor's Ford Fiesta and I have the seat pulled quite far forward in that.
I can't afford a new car and of all the cars I like, the Moggy is the only one that falls within my price range. It may seem folly to want a car that I've never driven but that's not really the issue I'm trying to address here.
Will I be tall enough to drive a Morris Minor? Am I likely to need pedal extenders? If so would they be suitable for a Morris?
Most of my fellow short-stacks seem to drive things like Micras, Corsas, Fiestas or Kas. I've always had enough problems with my height without it limiting my choice of vehicle as well so if anyone has any advice or suggestions I'd be very grateful.

Hi there.
Thanks for feedback, really appreciated. In a recent really cold day, I tested volts and it was working correctly. But it has to be close to zero celcius. So I'm wundering if the temp sensor isn't reading that accurately. Any thoughts? Is that built into the relay/control box? I think the control box is under the steering column.

I am in similar situation to J500ANT in that i really need to change my car for an automatic, the only problem might be that i bought it new a year ago and it is on a 3 year PCP from Kia. I know that i will lose a shed load of money, but does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade your car while you are still under one of these agreements ? Read more
I know of one person who has changed cars mid-term on more than one occasion - 5 times over the last 6/7 years.
He now has £8,000 in termination charges to pay/service monthly on top of the payments towards his current car - totaling of £800/mth!!( £500 car and £300 in termination charges)
