Have I been caught? - boumph
This afternoon, in an emergency, I had to drive a vehicle with a S.O.R.N. I went past a standard "camera partnership" van parked in a lay-by. I was not speeding. Should I rush out first thing tommorrow to tax this vehicle?

That points to a info post about trolls jbif - what's trollish about the OP? it doesn't appear that way to me - he or she has posted several times on various topics of a perfectly reasonable type/tone. Are you jumping to conclusions too quickly perhaps?

Re the OP - sorry I don't know! But if it's linked to ANPR it could well have generated 'look into this' query on the log.

...Should I rush out first thing tomorrow to tax this vehicle?...

Not much point as you carried out the offence today.

If you don't tax it on Monday you will be ANPR'd if you drive it on Tuesday, for sure!

such as the one which elicited this comment from Pugugly:

Anyhow, look up how many threads he has started, and how many he has returned to for a 2nd posting, and how many other than those he started that he has contributed to.

Has he been caught? I don't know. Have you been hooked? Only you and the OP will know.

In answer to the OP,

1) only the camera knows and if it's yes, you'll know when the letter arrives.
2) No, it won't make any difference to the outcome, but if you're still within the time limit of the reminder letter you got then do it online NOW. It's free and takes about 20 seconds.

Touché jbif - the OP isn't the most chatty of posters, granted. But apart from a query about a motoring offence & the current query, most seem very uncontroversial & mundane.

its an offence to sorn a car and use it on the road
thing is its also illegal to drive a sorned car on trade plates
so why bother having them if youve had a car yonks and a customer wants a drive

I'm getting a bit bored of the "anyone who asks an unusual question must be a troll" mantra that seems to kick off a lot round here. jbif, maybe you should follow Pugugly's advice and not elicit further comment if you believe it to be so.

You may have a bigger problem if it was not insured.
Have I been caught? - boumph
it was supposed to be an enquiry about camera technolegy.please explain troll,op,hooked,A.N.P.R.yes the vehicle is insured & has current mot
Have I been caught? - rtj70
If a question on camera technology... what was the queston? If you drove a non-taxed car and were spotted by a camera (ANPR) then you will find out in time. Or the vehicle owner will. And if not taxed was it insured?

Best bet is tax it tonight (still 28 minutes to go....) and you might get away with it. If you don't tax it and then get done, well tough luck you had your chance.

What emergency was it? Not to use the emergency services or just a taxi.

As I have already stated, the vehicle is insured. The emergency involved getting a sick horse to the vet. I am NOT a troll, whatever that is. The question was merely whether standard speed cameras do just that, or do they pass onto the DVLA all number plates (whether they are speeding or not).

Here we go again.
Close ranks, don't let the outsiders in, they might just contribute a different angle.
On second thoughts why not just moralise on the OP's whole life instead of just answering his question.
This is getting predictable and boring.

As a general point starting on the premise of simply answering a question rather than psychoanalysing the poster would be preferable.

Unless and until somebody pops up who knows exactly how these things work, I would guess there's not much you can do at this stage but wait.

Penalties aside, I think the risk is that you will be charged the VED from the point at which the vehicle was SORNed.

The van was there; it may, or may not, have been in action. Just being set up, just being packed up, operators on a tea break. You will find out when and/or if some paperwork arrives.

Back to BB's point... you can drive a sorn'd car on the road... to and from an MOT garage for its MOT... as to the OP, I doubt that would count in your case, so just keep your fingers crossed... and call out the vet to you next time! ;)

Depends whether it was "just" a speed camera or whether it was linked to the ANPR system. ANPR vans are usually accompanied by motorbikes to pull over cars that are flagged up on the system, so it looks like it was only a speed camera and nothing more. So, if you were obeying the speed limit, nothing will happen.
Have I been caught? - rtj70
Was the camera a speed camera van for sure or could it have been an ANPR one? If a mobile speed camera van then you might be lucky - although any number of other cameras with ANPR may have spotted you. Therefore it is a waiting game.

Apologies for suggesting you might be a troll by the way.

One idea on whether this was a mobile speed camera or something else, how about saying where it was and someone (e.g. me) with a sat nav with speed camera database can look it up. Email me with details if you want.

I am sure lots on here hope the horse is getting better.

No you may not have been caught. They like other posters have said could just been setting up, may even have just finished. The safety camera partnership vans round our way are basically speed camera's. They are not APNR. They utilise Number plate recognition so they know who to send the fine to. If it was an APNR system they normally work in conjuction with immediate means of apprehension. Either by despatching another vehicle/bike or the vehicle with the built in APNR will pursue.

Good look to the horse
Have I been caught? - Bromptonaut
Agree with Andy P. The ordinary stand alone "safety partnership" van will only be triggerd if you're speeding. Whether a speeding tag would trigger other enquiries I don't know.

The ANPR teams looking for tax/insurance dodgers are usually paired with bikes or cars for immediate interception. A NIP through the post won't cut the mustard with the scallys.
