Can you please explain how to release the glow plug connector leads model is 2.2 DTI Read more
Well I've just changed mine this morning. At the top of the connectors there are two 'Grip marks'-opposite each other, you need to squeeze them together and pull.I had to use thin nosed pliers to get a good grip but they came off quite easily. Then a long reach 10mm socket.Mine came out with no problems and the new ones went in with some 'Copperslip on the threads.' If they are the older type plugs, then you need to take off the nut and washer that holds the wiring directly to the glow plug. good luck.
Anyone know if these people trade by another brand name? I have Googled but can't seem to find another name other than the holding company.

In stop start traffic when I brake gently and then roll to a rest and then put on a little gas, I'm getting a very noticeable shunt sensation from the gearbox.
Any thoughts?

Get a gearbox service done at a auto specialist (not a dealer.)
I presume the melting snow washes it into the waterways.
Does it measurably affect the salinity of what would be freshwater and does it affect the flora and fauna?
Could it be recovered? Read more
I used to work in sewerage (so to speak) and it was well known that on highway drainage systems what was referred to as 'the first flush' ie the first rush of water through a system following a period of dry weather, would be heavily polluted, mostly with visible oils and such but I suppose there would be high salt levels too on occasions.

It seems to be an amalgam of the current European and US Focus models and it is a big improvement on the US version. I hired one in California last year and the "SRS" version was well equipped (heated seats, electric sunroof and climate control) but also old fashioned, with one column stalk for everything, basic trip computer (buttons set way down out of sight and dot matrix display like an old Vectra) plus some truly wacky touches like illumination of footwell and cupholders (six shades available, including violet). Horrible slushbox, too. It looks as though orange rear indicators may be appearing at last, perhaps to allow for rear foglights to cut through the smog.
Hi folks,
Is there any issue with putting a baby seat in a Coupe, other than it just not being as easy as with a 4 door?

Thanks all for the replies.
I checked the Britax site and the seat does fit.
Went for a test drive today, and it's fairly easy to climb in to the back and position the seat, so not a showstopper.
I have read the FAQ's on this website about returning a new car when it it is faulty, i.e. the dealer has three attempts to put right in the first six months. How do you assess what is a fault and what isn't? Here is my situation:
1 New E Class bought September 09
2 On delivery car had a bad rattle that required taking the centre consoles out to rectify, took weeks for them to do it.
3 Dec 09 received a phone call and the car was recalled for a software update
4 A week later a letter was received from Mercedes for another recall, this time to the fuel system (again software related) to "prevent loss of power and possible fire".
5 Two days ago, without warning, the car lost power and would only crawl along, sounds like it runs on two cylinders.
It is awaiting recovery today. (snow was bad yesterday)
I am losing confidence in the vehicle; to get your money back do the faults have to be the same recurring fault or is a cumulation of faults sufficient?
Where could I get expert opinion on this situation before I approach the dealer?
Help appreciated.

No.
Evening all,
I was looking for some contrary and confusing advice, so I thought I'd ask a bit of a daft question ;)
Basically, I learn to drive late (age 29) and to save myself the trouble of going through buying a car from dealer/stranger, and to get some no-claims under my belt, I bought my friend's X-reg Fiesta 1.3, which currently is at about 91k miles. I quite like it, although I suspect that most people have a soft spot for their first car.
.*********
So it's time for a new car, and to the crux of the matter. What do you think is the better option - buying a car that was a cheaper model new, but has lower mileage second hand, or a car that was more expensive new, but has done more miles?
Really, I wear corduroy, so I've always hankered after a Saab. I know it's subjective, but would I better going for a Saab that has done 100,000 miles or something more tinny that has done 70,000, all else being equal? I don't know why, I'm thinking that if a car was better built in the first place, then it's more likely to be able to rack up the miles with less problems. . . ?
Cheers,

As has been said expensive does not mean better built, just more toys and bigger bills.
Id steer clear of Saabs at least until you have a few more years experience in the big bad world of motoring. If you get a bad one it will bankrupt you. I speak as having had a few in my years.
Stick to main stream Fords / VW etc. Its impossible to give advice as motoring is such a subjective pursuit, thats why people like HJ can make a living writing about it and we all have an opinion. Good advice has been given whats cheap to begin with (the new price that is) will generally be cheap to maintain and run.
Should I patent it?
I have had two laptops in my house that have fingerprint readers as a security measure to prevent unauthorised log in. The technology is not expensive, neither laptop was any more expensive than similar models from competitors.
Why not put it on a car...
Better than that, why not combine with electronic throttle mapping so i can have a nice fast sports car, with say 300+ BHP, but when may daughter gets in, touches the keypad, BHP is limited to 90 or so, and the throttle response matched to a Nissan Micra.
What a cool idea?
So much can be done with ECUs, "sports" mode can liven up throttle response, can tighten up springs/dampers, can alter gear change profile on auto boxes, so why not "17 year old daughter mode".
When buying cars last year, I wanted to find something I could have real real fun in and something else my daughter could learn safely in. Ended up buying 2 cars. (a Polo and a Jag XJS)
Can't help but think it would a great idea for dads looking to buy a GTI type of thing with teenagers to teach in the family too!
