Baby Seat - SSR
Hi folks,

Is there any issue with putting a baby seat in a Coupe, other than it just not being as easy as with a 4 door?

TIA

There shouldn't be. Usual advice is to have the seat fitted before buying it. If it has bucket seats this can be a problem as the seat may not fit properly

A good start is your MB dealer. They often have vastly overpriced seats for their cars, but they are generic seats so find out what they use and buy one without the three pointed star embroided on it for much less.

Getting the seat in and out will become a royal pain in the backside!

Not in the same class, but the same situation caused me to get rid of the three-door Cortina GT for a Maxi.

Two factors to consider:

  • seat belt: not all rear belts are long enough to wrap right around a baby bucket, as required by many designs. We bought a Britax Rock-a-Tot, which offers an alternative, shorter route that got us past that problem.

  • car parks: you may want to practise fitting the seat in a situation where you can't fully open the door. This happens a lot, and is awkward enough in a four-door car. Can you perhaps slide and tilt one front seat far enough to create a working space you can squat in to fix the seat, rather than having to reach in from outside?

Check on the Britax website with their Fit Finder page.

If you've got Isofix, something will fit for sure. If not, then you may have problems.

Thanks all for the replies.

I checked the Britax site and the seat does fit.

Went for a test drive today, and it's fairly easy to climb in to the back and position the seat, so not a showstopper.
