Is a tyre puncture repair safe?

I had a slow puncture on a tyre that was a year old. Took it to a well know high street tyre outlet who found a screw (not sure where). They had repaired it before contacting me and said it would last the life of the tyre. I do quite a bit of motorway driving, can I be confident in the puncture repair?

When carried out by a qualified professional, tyre repairs are safe. They will only be carried out if the puncture meets certain criteria, such as the size and location of the puncture - typically a repair can only be carried if the puncture is within the centre three-quarters of the tread - and the general tyre condition is good. You can always replace the tyre if you are unsure, but a good tyre professional would not repair a tyre that was unfit for purpose.
