Afternoon all,

read a little article somewhere a fewdays ago about various Automotive systems.
One in particular stood out from the rest in the fact that since it`s conception
and introduction, it has never had a single failure of any kind!
so, a little guessing game for you.... can you name it?

Is there an assumption that a driver is always in the wrong if he or she hits or damages someone or thing with no witnesses. I am a firm believer that cars don't skid, mount the pavement, or hit the scenery, the driver looses control. But what if someone with a music player with volume that would drown out Concord wanders into the road and gets flattened, or a cyclist suddenly changes direction, is it the drivers fault for not anticipating the situation? I'm not bothered who is to blame. I pay my insurance premium and in exchange
for which my insurer sorts everything.

Until the plods charge you with something unpleasant, does your insurance fix that too?

2nd December it was reported a rooftop protest caused traffic chaos across London as police were forced to close a major commuter route for more than nine hours.

Motorists were stuck in jams for up to six hours after the man refused to come down from the roof of a community arts centre in Leytonstone.

Police closed nearby roads as a safety measure, including the eastbound carriageway of the A12 between the A106 Eastway and the Green Man roundabout.

It caused tailbacks stretching more than three miles and affected Hackney, Bethnal Green, Poplar, Whitechapel, Clapton and Leyton, through yesterday afternoon and evening rush hour.

How on earth can 1 person be allowed to affect the lives of thousands of other people in this way?

On London traffic report this week.

Congestion during rush on M4 elevated. Broken down moped. The reporter said it was on the chevrons. So out the way. The HA wombles came and closed a lane. Why didn't they just escort the unfortunate so and so off the motorway. It was by a junction for gords sake.

Help ,

I noticed last night that the carpet behind the drivers seat is sodden ( windows were all shut and have been) no other carpet is wet and the sides along the back seat and tunnel housing are dry .

Noticed a loss of spray from rear washer nozzle as well are the two connected ??.

Where does the washer pipe run ????.

any help appreciated

cheers

The water supply pipe to the rear window washers, runs up from below the back seat, behind the trim adjacent to the rear door pillar (i.e between where the door closes and the hatchback opens) on the drivers side. There is, I believe, a joint in the pipe behind there and it can leak from that point. You have to remove the plastic trim, which is marked as having an Airbag behind it (at least it does on my early 2004 Ghia X), but this is not compromised by removing the trim.
I have suffered from both problems at different times. There was water ingress from both offside doors into the footwells, which was rectified by inserting some polythene sheeting to divert the water to the drainholes in the bottom of the doors. Apparently the system is designed for the water to run down inside the door, but should discharge through the drainholes, not into the footwell.
I also had a problem with the rear washer pipe discharging fairly high up in the door pillar, then running down the pipe and saturating the carpet in the rear.
I am somewhat of a coward when it comes to removing door-panels when there are electric window actuators behind them, and also trims that are marked as having Airbags behind them, so I left both jobs to my very capable bodywork specialist, who later told me that the work was actually not that complicated. Since he only charged me £25 each time, I was much happier to let him do it, but would probably do it myself if it happened again.

I scraped the nearside of my front valance a few days ago, and the scrape goes down to the bare plastic, so white is showing through the black metalic paintwork. I have heard there are mobile units that can come to you and do some sort of melting process to smooth over the scrape? Anyone heard of this? Read more

Proposals to reduce the drink-drive limit:

tinyurl.com/yzhgsyb

In my opinion a flawed idea. It's not the currently-legal people who cause the problems, it's the ones a way over the current limit.

It would make more sense to entirely ban the use of telephones when driving.

Seems to me more a "European integration" exercise than anything else. Read more

I am looking for a car to buy for someone to export and register in Serbia. In order to register a car in Serbia, it must be Euro III compliant at least.

The ultimate owner isn't bothered about it being RHD, as used cars are so much cheaper here, and also the Euro/Pound exchange rate has made it even more attractive. Although if we can find an LHD so much the better (yes, I know that these are usually more expensive here and attract mainland European prices, rather than UK ones).

So, I think the best approach is to find out when Euro III became mandatory in the UK and buy a car manufactured or registered after that date. Snag: I can't find this date anywhere on the internet. Does anyone here know it by any chance?

Finally: insurance. Will this person be able to get temporary insurance in the UK using my address, to cover him for his drive to Dover and thence through the EU to the Serbian border?

Thanks for any advice. Read more

My car was made in July in 1999 in spain and registered in the UK in September 1999. It is a Euro II engine and these engines were made unmodified until late 2000 when the Corsa C came out.

I don't think it was an exact date more of a phasing, e.g any new cars introduced into the market and probably was a date when cars are no longer allowed to be sold, I thought that date was 2001.

A classic example if the Fiesta circa 1996/97 the classic was still on sale which was no where near Euro II complient, yet was still sold. The Euro II engines of the MK4 were introduced in 1995 buit because the MK3.5 was still sold as the classic until the Ka was ready it meant a lot of of cars were sold up until 97 which did not meet Euro II standards as far as I know.

Edit Dave TD explains it in a much clearer way that what I am trying to above :)

The engine warning light flashed on this morning on my less than a week old Fiesta.

It only came on for a couple or three seconds and the car seems to drive OK. Its has done less than 500 miles so I am a bit concerned.

Should I be worried or just keep going and see if it happens again

thanks

I have had loud banging in my front passenger side wheel for some time now. I have fixed the back suspension that was leaning to one side by replacing the whole back axle thingy.
I presumed the front was to do with the cv joint o wheel bearing which i was going to replace from the scrap yard for about £55. I then found the bush on the wishbone for holding the anti roll bar down was perished, so hopefully replaced that(only available a peugeot main dealer) £12. That did'nt sort it so am am about to go to the scrap yard to get the exact same suspension strut, wheel bearing and drive shaft. I say exact because by the sound of it there is every possible combination of different types sizes of bearing, spline etc possible on my 106 XD. Hopefully this will sort it.
Next is the heating, which I should be ok on.
The central locking is faulty and now the passenger side door is locked shut as well as the drivers side rear door. Hopefully not too technical! Read more

Does it have anti roll bar drop links? If so have you changed them?

Got a rattle sort of under the drivers dash on slow bumps, plus a loud twang noise as I turn the wheel when stopped from lock to lock.. a sort of ruler twang sort of noise, if that helps.. anyone please suggest what might be the problem? Read more

Any speed bumps around your way. ?? Best to book it in and get both front springs changed. If you are keeping the car you may wish to consider changing the front shocks as well. Regards Peter
