I am considering buying either Kia Sportage / Hyundai Tucson (new or upto a couple of years old) with the diesel engine option. Does anyone know if they have any major faults?
I believe that the common rail fuel system is from Bosch. Does anyone know if it has a DPF (it is Euro IV)? I believe that the camshafts are chain driven.
Does anyone know if it uses a DMF?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice. Read more
Hi all,
My girlfriend has a focus 99, there seems to be an issue with the headlamps switching on, sometimes they work and sometimes not, its not the fuse or the bulbs.. i'm assuming its a loose connection in the switch on the dash.... before i get my screwdriver out and try to wrench the switch out and end up wrecking the dash, whats the correct way to have a look at the possible offender??
Many thanks .... Read more
Excellent !!
I knew there should be an easier way.. all to often i try and prise bits out with the trusty screw driver only to wreck it !! lol

Hi All, Can anyone help me with a headlamp motor running and clicking continuosly as if its siezed when the headlights are swithced on to dipped beam. i have found out that my model has integral headlamp motors and new citroen headlamps are £186 each.....can the motors be incapacitataed by removing a fuse or motor plug. Regards. Read more
I will respond to this myself, after investigating further I found that the lamp with integral motor needs replacing, Its a common problem after a severe frost as the pivots on the light reflector inside the lamp unit freeze and when the motor starts to adjust headlamp beam level it busts its gearing. They are a big problem with Some Citroens and Hondas Civics
There are (aftermarket) units online without motor for £50 and with motor for £82. for right hand drive cars...thats better than paying Citroen £186.
Hello,
I have a 2002 VW Passat tdi estate.
The light in the rear luggage compartment does not come on.
There is no switch like the door lights, so I presume the bulb has failed.
Does anyone know how to get to it?
I guess you just lever out the light and it is a push fit, but any advice would be helpful.
Thanks for you help. Read more
Thanks for this tip.
I'll give it a go.
Question for the more technically minded amongst you: my J reg MR2, which is running otherwise smoothly with 125K on the clock, is making a song and dance about road surfaces that are less than billiard smooth. It "pitter patters" and bangs on the smallest of bumps. The ride quality was always fairly dreadful, so I haven't really noticed a deterioration... any ideas? Dampers? Read more
When I have had banging symtoms its been:
1. Perished bump stops on rear shock absorbers
2. Perished bushes on rear axle
3. Failed shock absorber
4. Badly seated spring
SNIP!

im in the process of replacing the front abs sensor, i have managed to get old 1 out but it broke in the process. can any 1 tell me if the metal housing tube comes out? its made of stainless steel. is there any special way the new 1 goes back in again please thanks. Read more
The abs sensors on these have a plastic body, inside which there is a magnetic ferrite core and copper windings.I would guess that the plastic body has broken and is stuck inside the hub.The only way to get these out is by carefull drilling or use a mini blow-lamp to burn them out.Very time consuming. It is essential that the hole is properly prepared to accept the new sensor otherwise the alignment will be wrong.Do not force it into the hole.hth
Can you please advise or help me please, I have a Ford Focus C-Max 1.6 & it's a 54 plate.
My car started juddering and had lack of power and was like a knocking sound, so my Dad took the car to a garage and he was told the HT Leads so we changed them. The noise hadn't gone completely but was quieter!.Because the noise still remained we took it back to the garage and we changed the Spark Plugs and also changed the Coil Pack. The car worked fine for aprox 3-4 week. Then I was going round a traffic island and the car was struggling and lost power but I still managed to make it round. I then pulled-over and tried to re-start the engine but during this time the engine management light was flashing. I finally made it home. The next day I tried the car and the Battery light had come and engine mangement light was flashing on. The engine wouldn't start but was ticking. All the CD player etc work but I have no idea what's wrong with it can you please help me I don't just want to keep changing parts for the sake of it and hoping it will cure the problem. Just fed up with paying for problems all the time.
Thank you

On my way to work i spotted a Ferrari F430 spyder painted in matt pink with sign writing in white down the side.
What is the worst colour car you have seen?
I will try to get a photograph tomorrow to prove it. Read more
Do you really mean to say Bagpuss that you turned down a rat-look BMW 5whaddever
(anything over 20 would be acceptable) estate for a bargain price on - in my
opinion grossly perverse - aesthetic grounds?
LOL. Yep. Got our commercial director to negotiate a deal on a 5 Series that I could actually see myself driving driving for the next 3 years without having to resort heavy Groucho Marx style disguise. The one I have is definitely easier on the eye. Well, apart from the light coloured wood trim that I chose in a moment of madness to brighten up the usual BMW coal hole interior.
Quite apart from the dodgy M-Tech bodykit of the car I described, I don't see the attraction of an expensive new car with matt bodywork. That's how my cars normally look before I take them to the car wash, which admittedly doesn't happen very often. I like them to come out afterwards looking shiny and new for that before/ after effect, otherwise I probably wouldn't bother.
